The end is near

I got a set of heads in the end from John Banks, the heads that got ordered from HDC got damaged in transit......not to worry sorted now. This was Last friday Karl was just putting the finishing touches to them, all I needed was two exhaust valves and 2 new shimes, the valves I took from my old heads and the shimes were ordered in.

Plan of action for next week is for me to fit the FMIC on tuesday and wednesday the engine hopefully goes back in.....as for mapping I'm waiting on a mail to arrange a date but have been told I can drive it home on the standard ecu off boost with standard air fillter fitted from a different mapper, but, I dont think I'll take the chance.

I'll take some pictures when i'm fitting the FMIC.

Are you using a mix of cams? The numbering on the top pic, would suggest the wrong cams have been used.

Cant remember if it will affetc where the pulleys sit, but i would just check to be sure.

Hi Steven,

You got me there, I'll give Phil/Karl a call in the morning just to check they are correct.

What should be on the cams? I have been led to believe they have come from a uk98 car....

The heads/cams I sent were from StanS's MY98 UK car.

What a day I have had

I got a one day pass from the mrs to go and play at Barretts
I didnt get as much done as I wanted due to the intercooler taking bloody ages to fit but I had a nice day for it.

Am I missing something under the bonnet......

It didn't take long to get the bumper off, taking it apart was easy

3 hours later, the intercooler and the lower pipes are in place but there is still fine adjustment needed

The two holes on the inner wing needed to become one, to get the pipe in I also needed to removed the brace that holds the inner and outer wing together

There will be a engine fitted very soon

this is what it looks like with the bumper fitted i ran out of time to trim the splitter and refit it, I will need to get another pass from the mrs for next week.

And here's the engine on the stand just waiting to be dropped in

That's about it for today, I'm knackered and I can here my bed calling........or is that the mrs......

Please paint that front pulley.....
Keep going, you are the only one doing any work out there.
The rest of us are at play!

Looking good Bryan. I'd use the OE Subaru gasket on the up-pipe-turbo though. Andy warned me when he saw i'd used the one supplied and right enough it was blowing and i couldn't get it to seal.

PS: i like the fine adjustment tool on the slam panel.

Hi Graham, Carl and Tim

I'm looking at getting the front 3 pulleys in alloy, due to other bits needing replaced that I thought would be OK it's taking a little longer and costing a little more.

It's just getting the time, the car is over an hour away, I'm looking at going back next week as I still need to fit the gauges, knock and lambda link and may do some fine adjustment with a bigger hammer to the front bumper. Due to the size of the intercooler I need to make some kind of a bracket so I can fix the splitter back on, I can see that this is going to be a pain in the **** and may just wait to get the car home.

Carl - I'll give Phil a call and let him know about the gasket, did you use the other ones for the heads? Have you still got the defi's for sale

Tim - why didn't you tell me before I cut the bumper, have you got a wagon?

Bryan

Regarding cutting the bumper, if its a hybrid there's a bit more needed to trim from the front I think, also I found that I had to trim the bottom corner of both the spotlight recesses, otherwise it would foul on the pipes and push the bumper down where it meets the wheelarch. No wonder a template hasn't been done, the task is huge!

Bryan, Defis went a while back mate, although the chap did have them for sale again recently.

I used the Megan ones on the heads but only because i'd ran out of time to swap them around. In the end they were ok, lots more surface for them to seal against on the heads.

Chris - I'll pop down to see you later

Jay - The intercooler was sourced from ebay new, it's similar to the hybrid and only cost me £270. When I fitted it I needed to bend/remove a little metal from both corners of the car but other than that it was an excellent fit.

Changing the subject slightly, Did I tow you off the grass at Bolney one year?

Carl - They are going to use an OE gasket. I see that you have sold the car, what are your plans are you moving over to the dark side........

Thumbs up

Bryan mate it's all looking good I've picked up a few handy hints & tips from reading this thread such as wrapping headers, fitting a FMIC...all things that are in the pipeline for me as well

Hope they meet the deadline & you get your car on the road asap...you deserve a little luck after all the previous scooby incidents

Well you know where I am if you want to put some miles on the clock & also don't forget TOTB is on soon Not for competing obviously but it's only an hour away from me..if that

Because I didn'y know you were going to fit an FMIC Kick Iain, he knows my car and what's happening to it...plus it's about 50 mins from Phil (who also knows my old gearbox and suspension quite well)

It's a late MY98 4 door btw

He knows that when Tim goes bike baiting after competing at TOTB and manages to snap the end off his 3rd/4th gear selector rod that he'll be getting some work in

The old 'box is now sitting on a car tyre in my garage having been replaced a 6 speed to complement the 2.5 engine

Did you buy the various gaskets from Barretts as a set or as individuals.

What's happening with your car? have you got the PFC yet?

Tim W - are you selling the box? I was thinking of a 6 speeder but may get Phil to rebuild a 5 speeder with better internals

Simon - I'm getting there mate, it's taken a little longer than I wanted but I have made a few changes along the way, once it's run in I'll do a power run for you.

Mark A - When do you think your car will be back on the road? I'll give you some contact details for somebody that can map your car and he's not that far from you.
