Thanks guys. Had a good peek at TSL's killer engine at the Autosport Show this morning, 2 port there, not piped-up!

Always thought TSL was a 'bling' company, but their car was a killer:

Exhaust and TMIC/Charge cooler just as good:

Just for Flat4 who couldn't keep steady at the show:

Right, got a few more bits and pieces so intend to finish the fuel system off completely inc the Walbro fit and full pressure test.
If that's all ok, the TMIC can go back on.
That then leaves the cat downpipe (promise to pay you David...) and start it up.
Everyone had a downpipe with sports cat in place at the show, and Milltek's was nice, Graham Goode's nice but the TSL system was to die for, real motorsport quality, ie no U clamps!

Back to work.

Phase one will then be complete, and Phase 2 can begin......

Graham.

Yes, LHD.
The manifold is not a custom job, but commercially available(!)
Rated at 500bhp i think, but didn't read the blurb.
The inlet is sold as a package including the manifold, FMIC/rad etc all heat resistant coated, price unknown.

Thought this was going to be a real pain, but the Walbro went in easy.
For those new to Walbro's (like me):

Hard to believe that the Walbro is the smaller of the pumps in this shot; sinple to install in the frame:

Note I've followed previous advice to use the Impreza sock, not the smaller Walbro sock. It simply fits in place.

A trick to get it back into the tank is to lift the fuel level float up to the underside of the top gasket plate without straining it and the assembly just drops into place, let the float go and it drops into position.

One question now:

I connected the battery and switched the ignition to the 2nd position to start the pump which gave the usual quick wirrrr as the system pressured up, but I cannot get any pressure to register on the SX fpr gauge whether the adjust screw is in or out.
No leaks either.
Any ideas?

Finished off a few things for the afternoon:

That's about as big an air inlet area I can get at this point. Will do a bit more in Phase 3 (if I ever get that far).

Cleaned and wrapped the Cat down pipe:

Looks remotely sinister like a mummified snake?

Realy need to fix the fuel supply question now, fit the D/P, resolve the boost pipework issue and she is ready to fire!

Have you tried to switch off and back on again to build up pressure?
When i try on the std ecu, the pump only runs for a second or so before cutting out whereas using the GEMS ecu causes the pump on my car to run until the *whole* system is pressurised.

Flat; I started to think nobody was reading it! Mind you, I suppose it is a bit basic, but maybe some are getting some value/ideas from it.
I'm just glad to be putting a bit back into Snet as I've taken so much out over the 2 years.
Looking forward to Phase 2; Andy F mapping and racing the car for the first time, end of March, and it's my birthday!
Dyney's thread kills me, a nice simple 2.5 conversion....Phase 3 is the 6 speeder, Phase 4 is the 2.5, and Phase 5 is the SMART BIKE!

The Z Cars stand was great, that Saxo was really well done, though the Mini conversion is a cool £6K + you find the engine......
Thier Smart will be on the web soon

Graham.

That must mean Andy's got a life!
Thanks for the support everyone. Seems never ending, but the light is starting to shine at the end.

Bit stuck until I can figure a way to get the fuel pressure up to check for leaks. I think I have to link all the sensors/wires into place, ie MAF to kid the engine all is ready to fire, so tonight was doing that, spraying the D/Pipe with white HTP spray that will take days to semi dry and the pipe can go on, oil change and all that stuff.
If the pipework is ok then the TMIC will be on and I'll crank the engine over without the spark.
Surely that will get the petrol in there.
Tonight fitted the oil catch tank for the oil breathers when I get some 15mm tube, cost me £2.99 that did!

Finally there is Andy to get down to Brum to fit the Apexi and map it out, that will be easy....

From there the car needs prepping for the races this year which is mainly spanner checks, clean and lubricate things and touch up the paint damage due to a few 'offs' on the hill climbs

Graham

just flick ign, off on.. primes... off on primes.. three times or so should see presure.. if not then something is wrong with either the plumbing or the diaphram etc in the reg.

Thanks David, tried that tonight but no whirring of the pump at all. Will break one of the joints to see if there is fuel or air there under pressure.
SX is new, Walbro is new.....

Alternative way to prime is pull the cam sensor off and turn it over a few times. Works fine for me. Obviously doesn't allow it to fire.

if the pump doesnt whirr then youve fitted it wrongly.. check connectors are tight.

Thanks David.
the pump whirred initially and hasn't since so maybe a fuse?
I will have to pull it out of the tank if it is not the 'exterior' connection, but I tripple checked when I installed it on sunday. The loom supplied in the kit was perfect fit..

Checking tonight.

You are reading the notes of a dork (= pratt)
If I re set the alarm in the first place then fuel pressure just might of occured....
Pump works, buzzes for about 3 sec every time I turn the ign on etc.
Only have one leak on the FPR gauge connections, rest seems ok.

Spent a frustrating time getting the MAF back onto that bloody expensive Samco hose.
The hose diameter is about 5 mm larger than the MAF flex hose. Just got it on with a lot of effort. NOT impressed.

Filled the rad with coolant, so just the D/P to do tomorrow, TMIC (at last) and an oil change + some titivation and it's ready to fire!
I expect that to be sunday ish.

Look-out AndyF, soon be your turn!

Question:

I have fitted an oil catch 'tank'. I want to pipe from the engine block breather to the tank, but do I need to seal off the inlet manifold 'valve' where the stock pipe leads to?
I hope this will stop the oil contamination of last year in the TMIC.

Some pics to follow over the weekend of the job done.

Graham

Yeah, you need to block off the holes in the pipe where the crank and cam breathers enter(ed) the inlet pipe.

Otherwise unmetered air will be sucked in to the turbo thru them.

I used some rubber bungs to seal mine.
