I'm having stuff anodised pretty regularly these days Kev. I could stick them through with my next (clear/silver) order if you cover postage etc?

Edited to add...

Graham, is the larger scoop still available?

Not sure if i want to ask you lot this but:

Just had a small bonus from work (been a bitch of a year!) of £1200.
IF I'm allowed to keep it what would you spend it on to make my car quicker/more robust on the hill climbs?

My thoughts:

AP brakes (not at all sure I need them for a 50 second hill climb) I dont blast on the road , so not into boy racer looks/pratting about on the road)

A real sports cat DP from H&S

Big chunk towards a 6 speeder

A good way towards a Zen 5 speed synchro bullit proof box

A good holiday to a European rally (WRC) with my wife.

A new Line 6 Acoustic guitar (have 6 guitars already....)

Pay for the garden to be done (yuk)

any thoughts?

Graham.

Carbon Prop, would be my first choice.

erm light weight front pulleys.

I think your wheels are pretty light already but if not some lighter ones
Rotating and unsprung mass

I'd personally invest something like that amount in AP's Graham. Surely there's more chance of a set of those knocking a few tenths off your times than a built gearbox? I know you want the gearbox from a safety/inevitability perspective but surely a new one can be justified to the missus as a necessity when/if the time comes? I also like the fact the brakes won't lend themselves to finding a further weak point in your car (unlike more power). Fit and forget.

TBH you're the one to decide if they be of any true benefit on the hill-climb? If not and you're stuck with them, i'll have them off you.

But a good box will allow me to run hill climb compound slicks = mega grip!
Guess what i want to do!

6 speed box may be bullet proof but it is a damned site heavier (especially on your chest when putting it in ) than the equivalent dog 5 speed IMO.
I'm not convinced on the brakes in your situation though, Have they ever faded on you ? from what I've read in the past you hardly use em
bear in mind again a weight gain going for big 6pots / 28mm thick discs.
As Rich keeps drilling into me, the cars gotta be built to do what it does, it's different to a track based car like mine where I'm going to be approaching Avon rise at coombe at about 130mph.....

Graham

As it's "free money" suggest towards a Zen strong 5 speed box, followed by good slicks ( yeah more money ) and later one of the new H&S sport cat downpipes.

Your normal budget can top this up!

Otherwise treat the two of you to a nice week at a good Euro WRC round!

have fun

APs may be more than you really need, Have you thought of some 4 pot Brembos with bigger discs from a newage STi? Noticeable improvement over the STi3 4 pots and discs.

That'll take care of halfish. Then, with the rest, treat the missus to something and fix the garden. That demonstrate how selfless and considerate a husband you are and should get her sufficiently softeneed for the Zen box a little later on

I have mapped a few of the H&S sport cat downpipes and they are very good so thats No1
No2 would be a set of alloy calipers, alloy bells and proper discs. (suggest comp brake) Up to 5kg weight saving and excellent braking capacity.
No3 would be a years supply of NF octane booster in prep for mapping to the max

Oh bloody hell!
Just been 'told' over a bottle of red that the house needs PAINTING = £500
So, the budget is getting 'light' so to speak....

My brakes have NEVER faded = no need for Big Brakes

So does that leave me with a visit to a WRC?

Am I the only guy in this position?

Not necessary Graham, most Scandinavian rally drivers call brakes 'the enemy of speed' [ or possibly enema if they don't work at all !!

A real sports cat DP from H&S Or a Scoobysport one from API - new in stock this week !!

Big chunk towards a 6 speeder Too heavy, wrong ratios.

A good way towards a Zen 5 speed synchro bullit proof box Probably my choice, although we'd build it ourselves at APi

A good holiday to a European rally (WRC) with my wife. Give her a proper holiday away from cars - she probably deserves it

A new Line 6 Acoustic guitar (have 6 guitars already....) AND how many arms have you got???

Pay for the garden to be done (yuk) Lawnmowers aren't that expensive

any thoughts?

Graham.

Andy: YOU are guilty for No3!
The Sports cat sound like the next move as (so far); I have some money left (I think) for a H&S cat DP.(or a demon one from David!)
Better buy one quick I think before the garden raises it's head.....

And my daughter wants to be insured to drive my 911 for her 21st!

Off to watch Wallace and Grommit.

It is a crazy world.
I think Andy has the correct answer as ever..Is he ever wrong?

Graham!

I doubt AP's are needed. my 6pots are stunning but for a 50sec run from cold , I would use the cash somewhere else

A good way towards a Zen 5 speed synchro bullit proof box
this gets my vote or you could add a bit more and get a dog box and not have to worry about the synchros.

Found a place in the States selling steel open ended wheel nuts for 30 USD (coincidence or what!) a set of 20...turns out that the stock Subaru steel wheels use open ended nuts with the same taper as their closed end nuts for the stock alloys...

Got a full set from AS Performance, bit bright as they are plated, but will do the job well.

David, if you read this how much is the sports cat DP?

Is the H&S = API's DP?
I have an email to Ian over this weekend!
Thanks for the thread. I had followed the GB but few were interested in the Sport Cat DP, and it went belly-up at the end.
