Bolt-on 360 bhp x 330lbft: Phase one started.
Just going back to the Age and fear thing being a variable in your hill climb times.
I have today seen the perfect T shirt for you Graham. It simply said:
The Older I Get
The Faster I was
No Fear!!
If I see it I'll buy it and present it to you at one of these hill climbs I must go watch this year
Great to see the car still evolving and great to see this superb thread continue.
Yours was the first project thread I had read from start to finish.
I caught the bug now I'm doing my own .... damn this Modifying Hell!!
Good luck for the forthcoming season

It'll have to be in 'god's country' i reckon. Can't see the car being finished till the end of July with work an' all so it'll probably have its 1st outings at fintray or Alford to iron out any problems. Also means there will be less chance of wrecking the box before the ppg one is fitted at the end of the year!!
Congratulations John, you'll need to get one of those fancy recaro kids seats they sell in tweeks for the scoob now!!

Had the day to myself, so did the Sti's oil change and got it running, first time since the FMIC swop, all seems ok. Car's on SORN so can't drive it yet..
Did the cold box 'my way' :
The bathroom has come usefull today, lots of cardboard to make templates from
First one:
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=o5aoop
realised at the last moment it would be a Good Idea to keep the hot water hoses out of the cold air box!
Back panel to 'seal' (sort of) the rear from the hot turbo air:
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=o5apmf
And then top it off. I wanted to form an opening to get high pressure air from the top of the headlamp (as the factory did)
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=o5artl
bought some thin alloy sheet from B&Q (currently my favorite 'bathroom' shop) and tin-snipped the shapes out to templates:
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=o5assx
After a bit of tweeking the alloy frame was pop rivited after adding some curves and it started to take shape some more:
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=o5atm9
slotted it all in place and re fitted the Piper cone filter and MAF but forgot to take a pic....
I was going to leave the top off and just run some of my TMIC sealing foam along the frame/edges, but thought that would look even worse than this effort!
So, a top was shaped and fitted with 7 self tappers:
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=o5awet
Tried to keep the top surface scratch-free, but...yes, at the last action...scrunch!
This quick job has left me with one problem, the bonnet stay wont fit..so a bit of bend to fit coming along next.
So, that lot took 3 hours and £14..not too bad.
At this rate I will be getting as good as Flat 4 and Carl
Final job, and a pic of the car enjoying some fresh air..(must get out more)

Looks good graham, i really enjoy farting about making things like that for mine... in a very wierd way, it's as enjoyable as the driving..... having rebuilt the 911, and done the scoob i'm sure in some ways you'll understand that comment.........
What about some posh bonnet struts to overcome the bonnet 'prop' issue...??

Or shed some weight and get a fibreglass/carbon one with bonnet pins???
Nice job Graham!!
Just out of interest, what ecu are you running? I've got an Apexi and am trying to decide on my induction setup. I'll be changing to a z32 maf courtesy of a nissan and think i'll go down the K+N route since its maf friendly. Sure i read somewhere a while back that Andy.F might have a maf replacement in production soon though..???

looks good Graham....will you only be relying on the gap at the front of the cold air box to source air flow?....or will you be ducting some air via the inner arch area also?..... nice way to spend a few hours on a sunday anyway...

YES!
I did actually change the plugs for the ones you said Andy..broke my heart changing them.
Just why didn't Subaru add some clearance in the chassis legs to help us?
911's are the same but the plugs are at an angle in the heads which helps, and they do a special plug spanner for the job.
The addition of the front mount severly adds to the work to fettle the engine now, and the air box makes it worse.
Just a set of nice new Kumho's to go, an MoT after Andy's mapping and bed in the new pads.(might do that while mapping the car!)
Finally, there will be setting up the new AST's at Curborough track late in March which will be a whole new game for me.
The practice weekend at Loton is a day affair on the sunday for me, (administrating on sat) where I can see how it all is on my favorite hill for real.
Wadsey will be there too in his wizzo RA so I just might sulk after.

From: oop north in a spec-c.Now sold and starting on a classic ra track/sprint/road car
looks well Graham can't wait to hear the feedback about the new ats suspension + is that a custom broom shank mod you have there as well.
The AST's will be heaven when sorted, I hope i can crack them; all part of the fun. I will be doing a continuation of the suspension thread; hard luck!
The broom stick is off the 911...so is my Universal Bonnet Support System of Modular Design (UBSSMD) iuswim (!) Crazy Snet.
Kev: Plugs are NGK Laser Platinum PFR7B Stock No 4853 £35 the 4. The ones I took out had the same gap as the new ones I put back in! Looked rusy coloured, but I think that is the NF booster(?)

Firstly, should have said thanks for the goodwishes.
Be good to see you out in Sunny Ecosse this year Doug, initial rumour is that it'll be a busy/competetive class ( I have a hand in three cars being prepared at the mo). I would think by far the biggest in the championship (PS have you registered ?)
Kev, you should have let me have those red nuts, had to buy them myself, and now your not having any of the 'many' eye bolts, seat mounts, harnesses I have in my wee treasure trove
Graham, the work you've been doing looks good, can't be far away now. However your history needs work, has Doug to stay north of Hadrians Wall, or the Antonine Wall that Runs right through my garden ? The later means he can't go to Forrestburn or Kames, that would be a shame ?

So long as you fast guys stay well north of Harewood I don't mind which wall you lot keep jumping over!
Slow ones are welcome.
Wife not keen on doing Doune! Will have to work on her....

Wont be entering the championship.
I've only got 8 weeks at home this summer and in that time, remembering i'm a mechanical newbie to scoobs, i've got to completely change the brakes, suspension, have the geometry set up, remove/strip/rebuild/refit the engine along with all the essentials to go along with it, get it booked in for a remap, fit the cage/seat etc and last of all, make myself a new timing strut....
Oh, and get my liscense sorted out.
Should be able to do it with 1 or 2 days to spare for getting it up Fintray or over to Alford...
There's certainly no shortage of guidance on the snet anyway...
