Yeah we aren't saying that they will. Hell we aren't even saying that this particular porsche isn't itself modified. What we are saying is that just because you blasted a given car doesn't mean that it was the car you thought it was ie there are a lot of N/A supra's about and lower specced scoobies that look the part and in the second instance that not everyone will play at speeds in excess of 150.

The times were just an indication of what is realistic in various cars. 1/4 Mile times mean sh*t all to a porsche owner the badge on the front means much much more (why would anyone ever buy a boxster otherwise?)

I think most of you guys have no comprehension to how quick a 996 Carrera is. It's a 315 horsepower car weighing 200 kg LESS than the stock Supra TT. It has acceleration performance through the entire speed range that 95% of Impreza owners can only dream of. The stories of "well my uk classic with back box" kept up with one is B.S, an N/A engine needs high RPM to get the best performance, just because a Porsche happens to be travelling at a high speed, doesn't mean he has his foot down to the redline, does it??

No one here refutes that a MODIFIED Supra is fast. But it looks well like the Porsche raced a stock Supra, and rightfully outpefromed it.

Well funny you should say this but my best mate who has had a GT2 and a GT4 now prefers his supra to either , it does have around 500 hp though !!!! Ive also just fitted a big kit to a guys car who thought should i buy a new Aston or tune the supra as all his pals drive Astons and porkers , he decided to tune the supra (seeing as he just produced the new Pacino film i dont think money was the issue!!!) At the end of the day i love my supra allthough for what it owes could get a pretty decent Porsche , i just think its good value for money , IMO 90% of Porsche drivers cant/wont drive their car as it was intended , the Mad Gypsy obviously isnt one of those and hats off to him i love seeing these things driven as intended but unless you know for sure what type of car you have beaten then how can you post a kill , personally i think it was a TT and the TT driver lost his bottle at the 150 mark , after all get caught at those speeds and theres a good chance of a spell in Jail (trust me i know !!!)Either way any fast car deserves respect .

On a slightly more serious note 151mph on an alleged "private" road (we take that as public then from the info gleaned off the thread) strikes me as a tad silly, given the risks, ie being caught by Plod, crashing into some slower road user going about their normal business, unaware that they have a car closing in on them at more than 2.52 miles per minute (0.042 miles per second), etc.

I was that slower road user once on the M1 and I still don't know why or how I am still here. Looked in the mirror once, all was clear, looked again a second later and he was just about to wipe me out! And yes, it was an M5.

Not preaching but it strikes me that, as responsible drivers, we need to think a little bit more every now and then?

Whilst I can't defend doing 151mph on public roads. Once past me, they were the only two cars on the dual carriageway (correct spelling??). Which is a mile or so long and one straight line to the next roundabout.

Still very stupid imo, but just to put it into conext for you

The 911 driver was known on here, is it possible that someone knows the Supra driver? Perhaps he could give his account of the story?

Tis I good thread. I think to it was a modded n/a or a TT supra. In these road conditions I too would have lossed my bottle. The main reason a went for a scooby was they were 4wd. The supra snakes about in the dry (driven hard) but in wet you have to be calm and drive very very steady (they seem better on stock wheels though). I was not saying all Porsche's were slow, except most of them on the roads, boxsters are etc. But travelling at that speed I still think a standard stock supra TT would accelerate quicker (at that speed). My mates gt3 looks great, sounds great but to mean seam a bit lame, maybe he still getting use to it, but to me it does not seem fast in the car and was no match for my supra. Maybe rounf the streets it would be, but we were in derbyshire in the middle of the countryside with just the odd sheap on the road to worry about. The owner used to have a supra na and therefore knows the strong and weak points of my supe, but still he knew the roads and agreed he thought the GT3 would have been better.

But everyone has different tastes etc. Me I am Jap mad now, except for a few fords that still light up my day, It has to be from the land of the sun.

Yeah so safe as houses that i have once come around one of the numerous bends on it and found a car stopped (yes thats right stopped) in the outside lane in the rain. After we careered into the inside lane just missing him we glanced off the car that was stopped on the verge (no hard shoulder) and came to a stop about 20 yards further on. So yeah there might be no junctions doesn't mean that there are no ****** on it.

So lets say they had not just passed you? say you had a blowout, or they did, or hit any oil patch or a stray animal or pedestrian then this thread like so many would have been mourning the loss of one or more people. Driving at such claimed speeds is indefensible in any circumstances due to the small margin of errors involved. I have seen cars go across a dual carriageway crash barrier at lower speeds.

How would you feel if they had hit you from behind then? I find it extraordinary people banter on for ages on the technical finer points of one car beating another when in fact it is pointless in the extreme, let people drive like this on tracks not on public roads, where only they are the ones they are putting at risk and their glamour in publicity like this is non-existent.

That could happen at any speed (as you have said), and the list of what if's is endless. If you thought like that about every risk, you wouldn't get out of bed on a morning. Granted its increased at 150 mph, but the major risks weren't present.

I do appreciate what you're saying, but you evaluate the reasonable risks and take your choice. If a road is empty (and I know the one in question) and you have full visibility, those are 2 major factors out the way.

And we all drive 300+ bhp machines to look good.

Have to admit im the first to get pissed of at people driving like ***** (built up areas etc) but everyone has a bit of a play on a dual carriageway every now and then.

The 911 will pass anything on the road...except a petrol station! Oh, and 450bhp Supras Can't have been 450bhp, it would have slaughtered me! The supra that beat me, whilst faster than my 996, it didn't pull away that strongly. It didn't waste me as per a 996 turbo I tried it with. In 2nd gear it hardly pulled away. 3rd and 4th it pulled a couple of cars length on me though.

I think that there's a few too many people out there who think that if it's from Japan and has a turbo strapped to it, it's unbeatable.

Other thing is you haven't said if your car has had some ickle tweaks here and there either. A mate of mine from the pub is one of the head mechanics for porsche in this area and there are quite a few porsche tuning options available before you even look at the bigger german tuning houses.

My supe is pushing out about the 400 marker and this time of year I don't have the confidence to push it up to those sort of speeds, it just doesn't feel safe like it will hold the road when its even slightly moist. I guess the porker has a more solid feel to it (you've gotta be getting something other than a badge for your money).

I know what you mean about the I'm invincible I'm in a turbo supra mindset lol. I got had good and proper in town in my N/A MK4 supra by a ford street Ka, but was man enough to admit it though.

Oops! was a little tipsy when I last posted. Don't really remember doing it.

My 996 is standard at the moment. was thinking of letting Ray West have a little play with it (the car!). Remap and larger throttle body, should be good for another 25bhp. Sounds a little high for a N/A engine, but I'm assured it's very possible. for £800ish, it's pretty cheap, and transforms the car's mid range.

Could go silly and supercharge it for 5k and have an instant 400bhp, but as the car is still under warranty, I'll just leave things as they are.

Don't porsche do bolt on performance packs as official Mods? I'm sure my mate Tony said they did. That said can't see them being cheap.

I don't know of any for the C2/4 other than the 'Carrera performance pack' which could only be speced from new on the later 01+ cars.
You can have the 'X50 pack' put on the Turbo, though this is 6k when speced from new and 10k if you want it on a Turbo that didn't have it from new.

I don't want to go crazy with the 911, I'll maybe go for the remap and larger throttle body and just buy a fun car, perhaps a GTR32 Skyline. looks crap, but 8-10k will buy a good one thats already got phase 1 mods (380ish bhp) with so much scope to tune and have fun with. Fancy a 600bhp car just to hoon around in.
