Yes they did bring the big wages in but they have been battling it since, Beckham being the biggest display of not standing for it any longer.
Dave btw, I nearly bought a house that backed on to Boundary Park, It was on the Royton side of Broadway, a new build, the garden went up to the carpark.
Ended up in Lees instead though.

Yes, you could say that United bought trophies, but you would be wrong, on the most part, United's success was brought from the youth development and scouting, much the same as Wengers talent for spotting bargains helped Arsenal to their titles. United have gone long and hard to have their money.
I see Chelsea winning the title as a bad thing as their is already too much money in football, if they win, then either 2 things will happen.
1. Abromavich happy with his title (or 2), says thanks and ***** off back to Russia, bored. Leaving Chelsea with a massive wage bill they can't support off ticket sales they end up having to sell everyone and become a new Leeds. Which has big repercussions across all the leagues here in the UK.
2. They win, fail to win the year after, and Abromavich decides to buy out the entire Liverpool squad, plus the rest of the league just to make sure that they get it. He is obviously not the kind of guy to accept 2nd so him introducing more corruption to he league is feasible.
Either way, he is pushing up wage demands all over the country with players wanting more and more. At the moment United are one of the only big clubs to be taking action against this and capping wages. Obviously if the wages go up too much league wide then more and more teams go out of business or get worse and the gap just gets bigger. The less teams, the less interesting the season. Look at the scots!

If Abramovich got bored, Chelsea are in no debt so the wage bill can be easily met as we only have a squad of 24.
Uniteds wages capped? at £80,000 a week for good old Roy Keane, dont think any Chelsea players are on more than that

angrynorth, u seriously admitting you could have lived next door tot he greatest ground in the country with the greatest team playing there yet you choose to watch man utd.... 
and you call yourself a football fan eh 
As Paul says, its about money now, if u aint got it tough, it wouldnt have bothered United/united fans if it was utd in that position.... many other teams and supporters have to live with the genuine game of football rather than some over paid puff prance around. I know what Id rather watch

Roy Keanes contract is almost up and I think he will get the same treatment Giggs is currently getting, i.e. not the same wage, performance related pay. Like it or lump it. Every player who is in contract negotiations at the moment is being put through the same thing. Wes Brown, Roy Carroll, Giggs, P Nev... They are turning the tide.
Its about the game, that round ball that they kick around. Not money. And I give a **** because its not the big teams like United, Liverpool, Newcastle that will suffer its the smaller teams that are fighting for survival financially 2 local teams I can name for me are Bury and Oldham, both have produced/bred outstanding United and England players. With none of the smaller teams around to develop the talents, you end up with a stale national game.

I'd love to see the Chelski wage bill - it will be phenomenal - I do not believe that european nay some world class players will leave their clubs where they play week in week out to keep Chelskis bench warm...
United new wage structure was announced to the worlds media only a couple of months ago - pushing contracts towards lower basics and pay as you play / win bonuses of competitive proportions...

I think I would have gone into a season ticket share with someone if I had of moved there for the weeks when United were off.

I thought he was off at the end of this season at one point. Seriously, there was a rumour at the beginning of the season, that he wanted out as he is having a new kid early next year and if he didn't find his form he was going, to put more time into family. Being the quiet, proud lad he is, its was easy to believe.
However, turns out that it wasn't true after all and we get to keep him for a bit yet

nar forget it, hes defo coming back.... all the signs are there, quitting international footie. doesnt seem happy anymore at utd. wants to travel less (minus the champions league trailing about europe an all) face it, he'll be a blue soon enough
Its a shame to see him go, but its good he will still go there with some form.

couldn't make the game, a mini Ted Maul arrived very recently
lucky? the only lucky we've got is a 17yr old able to run a match of that magnitude. Also, you're right about the good football, it's because both teams think they can beat the other by playing the beautiful game. Years ago we would go to Old Trafford and kick lumps to get the right result because we couldn't match them playing footy, and fair enough because its all about results. So United doing it to us now if also fair enough.
