I can get you on a scheme (possibly) which takes it down to that sort of price, but the vehicle has to be supplied by a certain date.
Will check when that is & come back to you

Using the Autocar test is not a good starting point. I havent read Autocar for ages but thought the hot hatch test might be interesting - but the article was dire. They said the 182 beat the next car by 'more than half a second' - yet it was 0.2 secs. Then that it beast the Golf by 'twice that amount' - in fact 0.6 secs. The track is a sprint track - not the best for seeing the larger cars speed anyway. Put them both on track at Goodwood and it would be a very different matter imho. And what abt the Leon Cupra R ? Surely that deserved to be there ?
But obviously the 182 is a great car and very fast too. It is very cheap for what u get - but it is a different experience totally to cars like the Scooby or the Golf for that matter. Depends what you want. I just cant bring myself to buy a car where you have to put up with rattles and squeaks as common place.

Arrgggghhhh DILEMMA!
Just when you think something's straight in your mind it all gets f***ed up!
MY mate has a 172 that he brought brand new in March 2004, 12000 miles on it and he's just offered it to me for £8,500..
I was so committed to the new 182 and now this comes up. Not the colour I'd have chosen (silver) but is this too good a bargain to miss?????
Opinions please!

The 182 is supposed to be a considerable improvement on the mk2 172. Make sure you get one with the 'cup' suspension, or better still just get the 182 Cup!!

Watched a totally standard MY03 clio run 176bhp on a rolling road day a couple of weeks ago. Sounded really revvy, and pretty cool to be honest.
He then watched me run 337bhp, with an extra 50dB

Yep the 172 / 182's are a good little car, quick and handle well too, had one years ago in between moving from my scoob to my Evo. Absolutely no street presence at all, you feel like your driving your girlfriends car around to do the shopping....couldnt wait to get back into something meaty. My girlfriend wouldnt even have one ( tried my best to persuade her, said it would be perfect for her, nice and nippy, small and easy to park ) she said it looked to girly........cheek of her

Isn't it ironic that Impreza drivers are now "going back" to lesser powered cars such as the 182 instead of moving up the chain to a Evo etc and newbie 182 drivers are dreaming about getting a modded Impreza with 300bhp+
At the end of the day 182bhp on British A roads is plenty enough power, anything else is being greedy, I just wish Renault would make it AWD then it would be the ultimate hot hatch.
Cheers C, let me know the dates and I'll check my bank balance

I'm not going to get into the CTR Vs Clio debate, suffice it to say......
I am predominantly a Scooby owner, however until recently our second runabout was a Clio 172 Cup which I bought new on a 03 plate.
Had great laughs in it, and traded it in this June for a 52 plate CTR, thinking I was trading up.
Well, the CTR felt slower, terrible throttle response although good power when in the VTEC zone... Clio had better brakes, far better handling, sharper steering etc etc. The only area that the CTR won was interior and gearchange.......
Needless to say, after 5 months in the CTR I traded it in....
For....
A brand new Clio 182 with Cup packs!
Couldn't be happier. Incidentally, the CTR is the shortest I have ever owner a car, and an experience that I wish to forget about.... Costly and a complete waste of time.
As for the 182 Vs 182 Cup dilemma.....
As opposed to the 172/172 Cup, where the weight saving was considerable (89kg), the 182 Cup is only 20Kg lighter than the regular 182.
No way does a poxy 20kg saving justify the loss of all the nice extras that the 182 comes with. Xenons, leather etc etc etc.
A 182 with Cup suspension and spoiler packs is the way to go, and there are some mega deals to be had!
