I'll look at doing the files in Autoroute (which may be easier) and then converting them. The race is on!!!

OK mate, no problem, I should be able to copy and send them out as soon as they're done.

I can send you the Autoroute files if that would help?
The converter from Autoroute to TomTom (and many other conversions) can be found here http://rjdavies.users.btopenworld.com/, just look under programs and POIConverter.
Choose Route mode and then you can convert Autoroute to TomTom ITN files.

Beat me to it stuart
But I've used these 2 programs before, and worked ok.

So, shall we have a poll on whose following charliewhiskey or stuart knight?

My money on charlie, as I've followed him before, and he never "seems" to get lost

In addition to the advice in the Routebook, and on our website, about speeding, here is a salient reminder: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...04010&f=23&h=0
The police in Europe are red hot on speeding and their treatment of you will be merciless if they catch you speeding or driving recklessly or dangerously - the simple advice is don't speed.
Remember you are on holiday, not in a race. Travel safe and enjoy yourselves.

I only get lost following other peoples notes, or in West Bridgeford, Nottingham.
Cheers for that, both of you

I'm also putting in Shell stations every 200-250 miles (with others noted).
Plan is to meet up with STi-Frenchie near Yverdon if possible

Sounds like a plan chris. Any chance of converting that route to use with DESTINATOR 3?
I'm not quite sure how to plan a route on the thing yet, and havn't got time this week to do it
On another note, how many people are taking digital video cameras? I've just organised my tapes for the week, and need to buy some more as back ups. It would be a good idea if every now and then, one of us go's ahead, and films everyone else coming by, especially up those mountain passes, much like marv did on one of the Derbyshire runs.
I'll be taking my dv suction mount, and my big benbo still camera tripod, so if anyone wants to borrow it on route, be my guest
Just my suitcase to pack now, buy a fire extinguiser, some spare bulbs for my front driving lights and my currency.
If anyone wants to upgrade there headlights to bosch blue bulbs, I've got a whole box of them off andy_s. Haven't a clue how much to charge though, as he's not given me a price yet. I've enough to last me a lifetime

Terry B - have you sorted the NF supply? I've taken out the passenger harness for you to install.
Is everyone taking 2 way radios?

Chris, where are you getting the info about Shell Stations, I would be very grateful if you could pass that on, or a copy of your waypoints (I don't have that info in Autoroute 2005).
Cheers

The Shell website search is here
You'll need to select a region and country, eg Champagne France, and it will list all stations as well as showing them on a zoomable map
Edited to add that I have autoroute 2005 and the shell stations abroad are included, but needed to enable them in View > Show or Hide Places > Petrol and Auto services.
I have to zoom right in to be able to see them tho!!

Is there actually any reason to prefer Shell over any other brand in Europe? Are they unique in offering a high octane fuel, or do other brands sell something equivalent?

Others countries are available off the Shell.com website
I have completed the Itineraries for day 1 & 2 and will email all the Autoroute 2005 '.axe' file & TomTom '.itn' files out to anyone who needs them just, as soon as I have finished them.

From: French side of the border at Geneva, Switzerland
V-Power 100 RON is now selling at it's highest price of CHF 1.77/litre (which, according to www.xe.com is 78p/litre) although my local Shell garage gave me a discount last time I was in - I'm a regular visitor
Costs me about £30 to fill the tank.
So, cheap compared to UK prices I imagine. Not to mention that E.Leclerc supermarket are doing 6x33cl cans of Stella for less than €3.00 whilst the equivalent in Heineken is about €5.00 - don't forget to leave space for your shopping

I presume we're all doing a bit of shopping on the way back. I for one would like to utilise the fact I've coming home in an empty car on the monday. Does anyone know the best places to shop in calias?
I'm getting some octane booster off pauleds2 from wyioc, so if we can't find the shell station, I'll be ok. I'm sure I wont need it all, so if anyone else is stuck, you can borrow some
I've got one for each day, all labelled up
+ I'll get some extra ones just in case I run out. I can imagine on the days around the alps, and the nurbyring, I'll use more than one tape. It just makes it easier to organise when I get home and spend the next 4 months making a dvd of the trip

CW42 Just a cautionary note re the 'ring...
I seem to remember reading that it's prohibited to vid while on the ring...
Can any of the regulars confirm that? If I get a mo I'll try to find where I read this.
Edited to add:
This is where I read about the ban - it includes taking photos as well!
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/ringrules.html
These are the specific 'rules'....
4) Photo-, film-, and video-recordings are only allowed to be commercially distributed with written permission of the Nürburgring GmbH. [Since this, a complete ban on photography and video filming on the track has been introduced, and in 2004 offenders will be banned - Ben]
6 - Penalties
For breaking any of these rules, the offender is charged DM100 (one hundred Deutchmarks - about €50). Nürburgring GmbH has the right to ban the offender from using the track.

Personally I would prefer to stop in Belgium to stock up on some lovelly Belgian Beer!

Right, I have all days mapped out now in Autoroute (with petrol stops, mostly Shell, but wasn't too bothered about motorway fuel) I have added fuel stops around 150-200 miles to be on the safe side. If anyone wants these files I also have them in TomTom itn format.
Day 1 Boulogne - Dole, Fuel stops at Boulogne, Reims and Dole
Day 2 Gravel - route from Hotel to gravel road
Day 2 normal - route from Hotel to Champagnole
Day 2 Stage2 - route from Champagnole to Linthal (fuel stop at Kussnacht am Rigi)
Day 3 Hotel - Stelvio - Hotel (with Fuel stops at Mustair - Italian Border, Brusio and Chur)
Day 4 Hotel - Swiss passes - Hotel (fuel stop at Innertkirchen) (twice if you go round the loop again
)
Day 5 Hotel - Jammelshofen Hotel (fuel stop at Nufrigen)
Day 5 Autoroute only (fuel stops at Denkendorf and Altenahr)
Day 6 Nurburgring (with route to nearest Shell station at Altenahr)
Day 7 Jammelshofen to Boulogne (fuel stops at Saint-Ghislain and Boulogne, cheap fuel to go home with!)
PM me your e-mail address if you want to use them. It is your responsibility to check and fine tune them, I hold no responsibility if you get lost!

[QUOTE=terryb]I'll follow you then Stormy - just don't hold me up like you used to in the EVO
Good the banter starts
Your a quiet lad eh terry just like your new car livery. Hope not to hold you back , couldnt bear to breath in all that Decat generated pollution if we have to follow you.
However may just let the swiss border guys know you are a polluter that will give me a head start for a few hours :-)
