I had the pleasure of driving this road in June of this year. We were staying in Lake Garda for 2 weeks. Found Stelvio on the map and thought that considering it was so close it would be a shame not to
Hired a Smart Roadster and conkered 2 other passes on the way. Approached Stelvio from Bormio. As you can see in the picture, the sign post says CLOSED. I didn't read that part at the time so off we went. When we reached the summit there were people in ski jackets!
Unfortunately for us the section of road that continues down the other side was blocked with snow!! So I hope next September will be clear for you. We had to turn around and travel about 2km back down to find a turning which took us through the Swiss border. From here the road turned into a gravel/dirt track and we were worried if we had taken the right road. Turned out ok and we briefly passed through Switzerland.
The whole journey took us about 9 hrs and the misses was getting worried that we were getting lost.
Turned out to be a great day for us though.
I guess you guys will have more time on your hands!
Nick

Stelvio with SELOC Owners club
Hi,
I used to have an Elise and a couple of my mates did Stelvio this year with SELOC the Lotus Owners Club.
Anyway to cut a long story short, i have all the plans and the route maps from the Elise guys, They really planned everything very thoroughly and did most of the groundwork that would be needed for this trip including route maps, hotels what to watch out for etc.
I would love to do the trip, so maybe if any of the organisers want copies of this stuff PM me and I will photocopy it all.
Cheers
Ash

Jo, just been through your thread on NASIOC, truelly awesome pictures
I think myself & MissyC will be up for this next year
It would be nice to have a bit of 'local knowledge' to find the best roads in the Alps and I'm actually getting a bit bored of the best roads in Wales & Scotland
It would be great to meet up with the German Scoobies too

If this could help let me know
It would be to try to organise a kind of european meeting near the Stevio.
Wurzel> We are a good number from the "french" part of Switzerland ... it might be easier for us to meet

Hi joblack. that sounds like a plan, there are 5 of us, 3 Brits and 2 Australians, 4 of us are in south Germany and one in Zug in Switzerland, none of us speak French but I see you at least speak English. We will arrange times and places to meet closer to the time.
Cheers
