as i said, if any of these take the money and run brigade think they can do it..

do it...... and when they loose the car and the goods....


youve only got to look at the buying an unknown stolen car scenario....you loose youre money and the car...

ask special branch how many people get conned on these scams...


as i said its a con, cleared funds from a stolen cheque becomes money

obtained fraudulently and they recover it!!!

So what would happen if you cashed it at one of these "cash your cheque now" places, rather than a bank or BS?

Just a bit of additional information re clearing of foreign cheques..

they don't actually clear for around 6 years

i.e. any irregularities then the bank will take the money back from you.

LLoyds TSB has a 6 year limit like most UK banks !

 

They'll want your name and address info at the very least (and severall forms there of no doubt)....

 

Rich I have a spare weekend and nothing much to do so you can count me in

 

I am biased here because I hate banks in general. BUT can anyone in the know explain why this happens? If a cheque is stolen or does not have the funds to support it then surely the issuing bank will decline to clear it and it's their job to check these things. OK this may take a week or two especially if international although since it will all be done electronically I don't really see what difference that makes. I assume that if cheques are stolen then the theft is reported to the bank in question. I also assume a bank should spot a fraudulent cheque? Now I suppose I am being naive about this but the banks seem to want it all ways around.. DL

I suppose there's no reason you couldn't cash the cheque, withdraw the money and place it in a high interest account until the bank asks for it back is there?
It could make a nice wee sum for the lads at crimbo night out time?

Try turning up at one with a cheque drawn on a foreign bank, for £34k, and see what kind of reception you get! At least you'll get a lift home...
