One word - hideous!

I don't use it every day, but even out of rush hour times it is a right pain in the a$$. Chris is right, there are pretty hefty roadworks on that section at the mo too.

I'd rather have my nads tickled with a stun gun personally

A favourite haunt of mine sadly! M25 anitclock at that time of day starts queuing at Watford and finished queueing affter the road works.

Bloody nightmare - allow LOTS of extra time. Where are you going on the M3 - there are several rat runs depending on if you're going into town or out of it.

Technically it's not really traffic. I think the phrase you would be searching for would be "very big car park"....

You're picking up from Heathrow?

Then leave Heathrow by the T4/cargo exit and join the M25 at J14 heading South/anti-clockwise. Stay in the left lane.

Get off at J13 and go straight across the roundabout as if you're going back onto the M25. But stay left on the on-ramp and you'll find yourself on a separate slip road that goes round in a semi circle and brings you back to a roundabout.

Take the 2nd exit which is the A30 and go through Virginia Water until you reach Bagshot. Then get onto the A322 and head for Guildford.

Next roundabout is the M3 J4 (I think). Take the 3rd exit and head South down the M3.

Enjoy

SB

PS To answer the question, though, it's variable and totally unpredictable. Sometimes it's dreadful, sometimes worse. Then it'll be clear one day when you least expect it. This way you can disregard the whole problem except for one junction. And if you want I'll tell you how to skip that, too. (More hassle than it's worth normally)

It's horrific

There are back roads wch I take when i'm working around Heathrow - I'll look on a map & post it up (only know them to drive, not the actual numbers etc)

Saves me loads of time using them

I personally wouldnt go the A30 route - it can be a pig most times - the M3 southbound is usually busy but moving (60mph) at that time

Probably be quicker to drive to Manchester.

Then fly down to Heathrow to meet your friend, fly back to Manc and drive home

Right - this is how to do it

Get to Stains via the route shown above, when you get to the Crooked Billet roudabout (the big one that goes all over the place) you need to go straight over & down the A308 to Sunbury.

Dual carriageway all the way....

When u get to Sunbury - hook a right onto the M3 southbound & you will be fine.

Thats the route I take & very very rarely ever get stationary traffic

It's going a bit out of the way, but it's SO much quicker! Plus you don't gt stuck in traffic on the A30 then
