North? Liverpool?

North is the Dee & the Don in Aberdeen (which they do row on!).

Recently sold my C2 model D (4 month old) for £820 - there are normally a few for sale on the concept 2 forums. One was on ebay recently - sold for a simialr price.

BTW - I don't think the PM3+ (on the model D) can be used on internet rowing, only the older PM2's - unless new software has been released recently???

Scatter.. wish I'd known about your sale. Though a new one from C2 is £939 (with free £32.99 Heart monitor connection kit) .. so they appear to be holding their second hand price well..

The new version of E-row appears to support Internet competition with the Row pro software not having that capability yet... but offering a lot of functionality..

Just ordered a model D from Concept, with the new PM3 computer and HR monitor pickup/strap.

Can't wait for it to arrive tommorrow now, i'm on call all weekend so i'll be stuck at home.

At least i can get loads of practice in!

The Model D has the new PM3 computer as standard so it will allow me to race online...

I didn't read the full spec of the PM3 when i ordered this morning, does this mean i can hook it up to an internet connection and race people online in real time? If so, that would be really cool!

From Concept2 website:

Can I internet race with my PM3?
Not at this time. To internet race, you need a PM2+ and a Model C.
Apparently not, yet. Oh well...

The gyms round here are full of chavscum.

I never really liked gyms as i prefer peace and quiet when i train. I used to do 2hrs a day on my mountain bike when i worked shifts, but now i work office hours i find it harder to allocate time to train. Plus when i was younger i didn't mind cycling in the cold/wet/wind/snow, these days i'm not so keen.

My health has slipped badly the last 3 or 4 years, my weight has gone up and my blood pressure has started to go up as well. My health is more important to me than money (well £1000 anyway), so from that perspective i can justify the outlay.

I loved using the Concept 2's when i did go to the gym, but there were only 2 and they were always in use. I think having my own means i'll get a lot more use out of it - easier to do a quick 2k before work etc than if i had to get my kit together and drive to the gym.

Last time i used one, i think my time for 2k was 7.5 mins (ish). I think it'll be much worse tomorrow....

Better ratio than my last gym, they had 2! But membership was £5 a month through my work.

Iwan, you can race online.

Not with the free C2 e-row product as you need the PM2+

You can pay $99 for RowPro which;

With version 1.6 and downgrading your PM3 firmware to version 067 you can race online.
When v1.7 comes out this month you will be able to race with the current firmware version 082 firmaware. It's dead easy to re-prgramme the PM3 with a USB connection to your Laptop or PC.

RowPro looks far superior to e-row and has many more functions, plus everyone seems to be using this to race online now. You should get a free 10 use licenced copy with your new machine.

Mine came yesterday..

Cool, cheers for the info Alan.

Thinking about it, the rower is going to live in the lounge and the PC is in the spare bedroom, so unless i can wangle both into the same room it's not going to work.

Unless i install the software on my work laptop then put that in the lounge too.

Hmmmm...

I used to row on the Dee in Aberdeen Very nice.
They row on the Caledonian Canal as well - there's a regatta there around february.....bloody freezing as well

There's not one on the Mersey as such, but there's a huge number around here....

Concept 2 sells the old machines from the erg cmamps in Birmingham every year, I believe - worth phoning someone at Concept, if you're after a new/second hand one?

Who's done a 5k then? Mine's 17:32. Didn't enjoy it one bit

I'm way off the pace at the mo...

Been off the machine for quite some time so I need to build up before 'giving it large' to any PB's.

I'm working through the C2 tabled fitness guides prior to racing in 6 Months.. won't be racing then though.. but it's a good way to keep the training in some sort of schedule, plus with the heart monitor I can keep my heart at UT1, 2 etc for the correct times and get the most benefit... tonight is 2x12 Min UT1's (2k warm up & 1K cool down) and a 45 Minute UT2 tomorrow...

Once I'm happy that these are going well, I'll put some 500m, 2K & 5K times together and compare them over he 6 months at regular intervals... no point doing them now as I know they'll be crap and well beaten when I'm back in the swing of things...

Any good regular training scedules to share?

My spine hurts (machine was delivered saturday)!

Nah, i'm taking it easy at the moment as i'm quite unfit and haven't rowed for ages. Trying to do a gentle 1000m per day for now, then add distance and increase pace gradually when things stop aching.

Must consult the training guide methinks...

Or with a slightly more positive outlook, you might say that you'd rather be fully fit, so you'll achieve an even better time than you would at the moment
Know what you mean though, and it's not a bad idea. Wait until you feel fit, and feel ready to give a good performance, before committing yourself to an erg test, as that really is part of it - having good focus on the day, so that you're worked up to performing well

Erm yes.....but I really don't think you'll want to follow it - unless you fancy 35 or so km every day, in and out of the boat......then resistance sessions, and so on, and so on
You could do a lot worse than the ones off the Concept 2 website, if thay're still there

Sorry to drag this one up but i was rowing at the gym lst night on a concept 2 and remembered this thread, just wanted to check how i was getting one compared with you folks.

Well I think i should give up having read this thread!
I damn near killed myself to get a solid 8:02 2k time on sunday and then yesterday i was equally as knackered in getting a 7:47 for the 2k 'dash'!
By my reckoning, i should be doing some Tigg beating times by middle of next week....assuming i continue the current level of improvement.........lol!!

Is there a technique i should be following to ensure continued improvement or is it just a case of rowing at the same level day in day out and seeing how my body begins to cope?

Cheers!

Not the only one.
The best I've managed for the 5K is 19:50. Swear to God it nearly killed me.

And about 5:25 by the week after...

I'd say probably the best training you can do for the 2k, and to build sprinting ability on the ergo, is to do around 5 sets, at race pace, for 2 minutes each. i.e. - you sprint for 2 min, then take around 3 minutes off. Don't just stop during the rest time, but row gently, and build up to the next one in the last 10 seconds.
Do this kind of interval work every other day, and a longer, steady state row on the days in between.
You're not doing hard training sessions on concecutive days, which makes it more effective, as you get time to recover......
If you're planning another 2k, then take a day off 2 days before, then do a light row or whatever, the day before. Works better that way

Have fun

james,

just to make you feel good i never trained on a concept 2...i hate them. i never rowed more than 2k or the odd 500m sprint and i only did these when there was a crowd to show off to

i have prob spent less than a few hrs on a rower in my whole life.

hope that helps

Cheers for that Franx!

I'll try some of that. When i rowed the 7:47 i actually thought about how best to aproach it strategy wise. I started at a steady 28 strokes per min for the first 1k, then i increased that to a steady 31/32 st per min for the next 800m and then sprinting (or giving it what's left in me!) at around 35 st per min for the last 200m.

After that i could barely stand up, let alone warm down by rowing!

Did you say you have rowed in Aberdeen on the Dee? I'm in Abz too!

No Tiggs, i don't feel any better knowing that

Thanks tho!! lol!

I'm built for hitting golf ***** a long way, that's what i do to show off, none of this energetic nonsense! Hit the ball to within a wedge of the green on a par 5, walk off the tee in the usual arrogant "Yes, i'm a big hitter" style and still scrape a par after the knife across the green and obligatory three putt with the last one almost lipping out!

Cheers

I used to. 2 years ago. I'm now down in Liverpool though

Don't worry, I hate the bloody things as well. It just happens that they're very good for training on..... I'll avoid the ergo if at all possible, now that I haven't got to train for anything
Best way to start a 2k by the way, is flat out - should be pulling the thing apart for the first 20-odd strokes, then settle down to a decent rhythm, that you'll be able to maintain. At the end, you want to be building up, with about 400-350 to go, and really stamp on it - take rating up, & push for the end.

Enormous fun, as I'm sure you'll agree
