Owen to sign for Real
Owen's career statistics
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed striker Michael Owen will move to Real Madrid.
The deal is believed to involve Liverpool receiving £8m for Owen plus midfielder Antonio Nunez from Real.
"When I came here he (Owen) had one year left on his contract," said Benitez, who took over as manager at Anfield during the summer.
"Real Madrid knew that, and when a big club like them come knocking you cannot control it."
He added: "I now have three strikers. It's bad that Michael's gone but we have three very good forwards and I'll be looking for a solution in the future."

Strange how Owen can agree a deal within a few days and protracted out agreeing one with L'pool for the last 12 months Hidden agenda? Well, I for one won't be sorry to see him go now, as he has basically shafted LFC, IMO

You'll miss his goals more than you think. Baros isn't half the player

I will miss Owen and his goals but I'm more upset about the shocking fee we received compared to what we could have taken a year ago.
I read an interesting article today that commented how Owen leaving might not be a bad thing. We may play more as a team with Baros and Cisse and won't have to rely on the same player/tactic from now on.

I guess the interesting thing is to see how a partnership develops up front for you. If the two player gel then that would be the big change for you.

Two strikers that can both score goals and work together. I know neither of them have established themselves in the EPL yet but given their records I think they can work together and we won't be relying on one striker to score all the goals.
Also the style of play is changing so we are not focussing on ***** through the middle all the time and expecting a striker to beat the last man and score. Kewell and Finnan (Nunez) will be trying to supply width so the strikers are given more space to run into.

I can't wait to see us pass and move once again, it's been so long
I'm going down to norf landon tomorrow and I can't wait. I'm in the Spurs end though so must remember to be quiet.

I will miss Owen and am very greatful for the years of service he has given LFC.
However.
He is a one trick pony and is notoriously difficult to play alongside. I wish him all the best at Real Madrid but he isn't anywhere near as clinical as he was a few years ago.
Baros and Cisse have the potential to be an awesome strike partnership. IMHO.
