Doom3
im on level 8 of the last episode of W3D. Ive got 34% health 35 bullets left & im playing it on "Im Death Incarnate". Ive been searching around for hidden secrets but found nothing. Im in one big room with 4 doors, theres lots of blue meanies on the other side & theres nowhere to hide...I think im buggered....
ahhh yes I remember the first time I saw Wolf3d and was like wow! Then there was spear of destiny, remember that? and bizzarely I only found out the other day that ID were reponsible for the excellent commander keen platformers circa 91/92, at the time my only PC was a works compaq deskpro 386sx with colour vga.
Sadly my new Pc only has Pci slots, long story on another thread.
B2Zero recommended I get one of these
http://www.dabs.com/uk/Search2/Produ...=pci%20geforce
Which I did, still to install (the integrated graphics that came with the Pc are causing problems, no doubt another thread will follow)
Pc has P4 2.8, 512 K mem, 80Gb HDD
Will this be enough for me to run and play Doom 3, like the rest of you, aching to play this game.

I experienced something similar with the orginal Doom on PS1, LOL, I find if you play a game for 3-4 hours before sleeping you occasionally end up dreaming about the game, Doom was a bit scary but the dreams after playing GTR3 were fantastic!!

You're wrong I'm afraid

I never said Doom was the first (Commander Keen?) I just suggested it had the most impact.
Although Wolfenstein was a sterling effort, it wasn't until they released Doom on the PC that people started to buy PC's just for a game - no other game prior to Doom had this effect on turning a PC into a games machine.
Following this, it was then Quake (specifically Quakeworld) that then created this mad industry of graphics cards we enjoy today. GLQuake anyone?

. Not sure if it did or not, as doom wouldn't have been made if wolfenstein / spear of destiny hadn't been a big success. I wonder how quick these things would run on my 3.2Ghz P4. Must give it a go
