box to share telewest broadband around house ?
#3
whats the norm....
a router that plugs into the telewest cable modem or...
a combined router / cable modem that does away with the telewest box ?
Can you name a specific device that will definitely work with telewest ? I ask, as I've heard a lot of poeple who trouble sharing the telewerst cable connectiion over say 4 pc's
Is it just a case of plugging the lan end of the cable modem into the router and let NAT do the rest ?

Doesn't your Telewest box serve your TV as well? Or have you just got their modem?
We are on NTL which is the same as all the other cable co's. We happily share the net around the house to 5 and sometimes 6 pc's when my son brings his over. We are using the US Robotics USR8054 wireless router. Works like a treat Plugged straight into the cable box and the server under our TV is connected via cat5 but the rest of the house is wireless.

On NTL too with cable modem separate from STB. Have cable modem connected to Netgear Router/Wireless Access Point to which two PCs and iMac are connected via CAT5 and laptop via WLAN. Exactly as you think, unplug cable modem so it drops the MAC address of the PC, (overnight is best) connect cable modem to router, repower cable modem and let NAT/DHCP do the rest for you.
