Stupid question , but have you driven all/most/any of these cars on your wish list? It may make a big difference if you do.
I owned an M3 before my 5 series, a Uk Scooby MY95, Audi Quattro, Nissan 300zx,Alfa 156 V6, 750i,Saff Cossie, and the C36 , each car was totally different to my original unwitting opinion. All were/are great in their own way , but other peoples opinions are coloured to such a degree that they cannot be in line with anyone elses ideas(wtf ? it sounded good when I thought it...)
The great thing with my C36 ( I know , I go on...) is the stealth approach , it has been tweaked to 310 bhp , 0-60 under 6 etc, it can be driven sensibly, 30mpg plus on motorway, but can still do doughnuts etc when I feel like a chav moment coming on. The M3 was always looked at by jealous ***** etc , the 5 series(540) was always a rep mobile, but still a lovely car.
I digress , I'm pissed....
btw not many cars with a slushbox and no turbo can give you so much fun

heres a pic of the old bus

Used Alpina B3, you have to drive it to realise how good they are, much rather have one over an 'M' car.

My sentiments exactly. People should learn to read the originators post first

I'm sure the C36 is a great car, but I just couldn't live with the looks, I'm not knocking it but it's just not me.

I have not driven all the cars on my wish list.

I have owned an Integra so I know all about the VTEC thing,

I have owned a 523i and done lots of m-way miles in it,

I want to drive and own an M3 but my heart is set on a new shape convertible and I just haven't got the finances for it plus I would not want ot put lots of miles on it.

Does anyone know what speed the S2000 can do in 6th before VTEC is engaged?

I'm not a big fan of Fords but the ST220 does apeal a little to me, all the toys, probably good on a long drive and fun when you want to boot it. anyone had an experenice of ownership of one of these.

IIRC, it's about 130/140 mph.

Wow, so I could cruise ona private road at 110mph and still be out of the VTEC range? what would the revs be like at 100-110mph?

Just found a stat on the mph per rpm. in 6th it's 19.9 I think. so VTEC will start at about 120 mph in 6th. So at 100 you'll be revving 5000, 110 will be 5500, 80 will be 4000 which sounds right as I got almost 160mph once and it was revving at about 8000rpm.

I drove at 140 (empty private road) with my then girlfriend and she was asleep and didnae wake up even though for the best part of 5/10 miles I didn't go under 100.

Cheers,

Sounds good, I'll have to test drive one at a local Honda Dealers, plus the honda dealers are THE best I have ever dealt with, can not belive how snoty the BMW ones are and Mits one are awfull.

I need to take a S2000 on a long drive to see how I feel in it, I would much prefer the revised shape as they made quite a few suspention tweeks to the rear end.

M3 is a good compromise , great driving fun ( without 4wd ) and eats up the miles etc. Lots around for decent money , mine was Evo, had the dbl vanos sorted about 10k before I bought it.
I understand your comment about the C36 looks , not everyone's cup of tea.
tbh I would still have the M3 if it weren't for the sprog being born, 2 doors no good for extar passengers ( according to wife ) the 4 door M3 looks a bit sad in comparison IMO.
All of the cars on your list are great , depends wheteher 2/4 doors is a prob.
If I could live with 2 doors etc ( no kids) I think the S2000 would have to be seriously looked at!

If you feel your golf is a little small and that tiers you out on long jounrneys you may not like the size of the S2k, might feel a little cramped, also if this is not a problem once you've driven one then have you considered the SLK320 or 230 Kompressor (my neighbour has one of these in black and it looks v.nice ) or a SL500 or Z3 M Coupe/Convertable, I'll not bother suggesting any TVR's as not really a good idea as a everyday car?

you are so right, I have just got back from a Honda dealer and sat in a 04 model S2000, a nice as it was I found the small windscreen and thick 'A' pillars a put off for every day driving, and I need good all round vision for the long drive as after 180 miles or so at 6am the concentration can start to waver.

Been to the BMW stealers dealership and they had a nice 330ci convertible, might be an option, you get practicality and wind in the hair motoring.

However, the salesmen are the most arrogant ****$, they think the are friging prince charles or something, for **** sake, they are just car salesmen.
