Superglue is too hard it sets without any give and causes other problems.

well Ive completely stripped one head and cleaned all valves ports / chambers etc..

Just refitting the valves.. thank god ive got a decent valve spring compressor, these double springs are quite stiff..

Once if done that I will check to see if the inlet valves are leaking, if they are then backout with the valves to reseat them.. then reshim them.

What lube do people use when installing cams?

LOTS of whatever oil you run the engine on. Our engines get built and then spin tested immediately, so you only really need to oil them for safety whilst adjusting shims and timing. Then drown them and fit the covers, then spin ASAP.

Works for us.

Alternatively a sensible amount of 'graphogen' which is graphite paste available from any good engineering supplier or reconditioner. We stopped using it as it is VERY expensive when used at a rate of a tube an engine............ Couldn't control my boys enthusiasm so if they don't have it, they can't use it.

PS, We've noticed recently that shimming can be tricky occasionally The clearance WILL change after the heads have been torqued down. In our situation the head shop does the heads and then gives them to the actual builder. He double checks the tappets and they quite often change.

ALSO we've discovered that the tension of the belt also alters the clearance. Not seen a phenomena like this before and I can't really explain it as the only possible explanation is that the cam is bending........

Confused of Warwickshire.

It's always irritating when you have spent all your time and effort building an engine only to have to take the damn thing apart again.

Running in my Land Rover engine and gearbox after a quicky rebuild. I never touched an autobox before, I'm yet to find out if it's right or not (driving at anything above 30mph whilst sat on the petrol tank (no interior) is not that clever and the propshaft has seized too

Looks like your webspace has hit it's limit David, the pics aren't working - Damn snetters
