This sounds massive - but I'm not sure when it is exactly (yes, I know-too lazy to follow every message from start to end). Date/time? Looking at the first post, does the town really get closed off in some way for this Scooby event and is it really officially sanctioned, tolerated and even supported by the local council (and police)? Just imagine all those Subarus cruising around in one place.

pmarch......................Yes to all the above. We have been invited by the town events organiser. The town will be closed to traffic from 6am to 6pm. The Police have been notified but as to there intentions i dont know. Please please be aware there are some lovely roads to Alton and it is easy to get carried away, just be aware the Police know we are coming would hate to hear tales of woe. It will mostly be a static display but the one way system will be closed for some SENSIBLE posing and a bit of Flaming eh Tiny! Take care

Sorry about delay in publishing price on hotel in centre of Alton - Manager who promised me a 'deal' has gone on holiday! Soon as poss.
Meanwhile, have booked bouncy castle, ice-cream man and tea/burger van so should keep the ankle-biters quiet! Tried to book good kids entertainer I know but he's flying to USA that day. Will put together list + map of pubs/restaurants/places of interest in town to hand out on day.
In reply to earlier posts, road closure licence for part of High St and Market Sq. applied for - don't anticipate any problems getting that - and permission obtained from District Council to 'close' car park immediately adjacent to Market Sq. to all but a few immediate residents.
As far as cruising is concerned, the bad news is that the one way system around town is full of speed tables! Best route into town is A339 from Basingstoke - very exciting, much loved by bikers, esp. on Sunday, so beware speed traps!

Hotels
The Swan Hotel in the High St (old coaching inn, right in centre of town, recently re-furbished, own car park at back.) http://www.oldenglish.co.uk/inn/show...p?houseno=6518
It has 36 rooms and the manager has offered us a 1/2 price deal of £55 for a double and £45 for a single per night for Friday, Saturday or Sunday of the Scooby weekend.
I've checked the nearest Travelodge on the A31 in Four Marks and it's already fully booked for the Saturday night, so it looks as if some of you guys have been busy already! There is another one at Basingstoke but at the rates being offered above, my advice is to stay in town!

Have written to Subaru (UK), Prodrive and local dealers, inviting them to take part. Dealer in nearby Haslemere shows some interest - contact again nearer time. Understand "fatmanscooby" inviting 1 or 2 Jap mag. photographers. Local rags will give us good publicity, as will local commercial radio Delta FM. If you have any contacts, please use them and ask them to call me.

Replies received to my invitations to take part in Alton Scooby meet -
Subaru UK - not able to take part but "we wish you well with your project which I am sure will be a big success."
Prodrive - also declined to take part but "I wish you and all the participants an enjoyable day."
Am investigating printing t-shirts to commemorate the meet. Views on whether a good or naff idea?
Pizza Express restaurant in the Market Square so keen they are looking at getting in a portable pizza oven for the day to be able to serve slices of pizza outside their restaurant!

If Subaru UK and Prodrive arn't interested, what about one of the Souths offical dealers.
They could bring along a couple of new cars maybe ? (maybe even a WR1).
It could be in their interests as there may be some prospective purchasers there who may want to be upgrading soon ?
Just a thought...

Sparshatts of Botley - declined, already exhibiting elsewhere that day
Proven of Haslemere - interested and I will discuss with them again nearer the time
Maybe the reluctance by all these guys is because they don't believe the size of this meet. If it goes off well this year and we get lots of press coverage, we will have them queuing up to take part next year!
