As well as the pubs and restaurants around the Market Sq., I have booked a burger van, the "Noodle Shack" van serving oriental food (www.noodleshack.com), an ice cream van and a bouncy castle.

Hampshire Traffic police confirmed by e-mail this week that they "don't have any issues on the matter" and have signed the request for the temporary road closure order. I will be advising the local police however nearer the time to keep them 'on side'.

The Tourist Information Centre in Alton can arrange guided walks of the historic parts of the town, e.g. St Lawrence Church (still has musket holes in the porch from the Battle of Alton in 1600s!) and Fanny Adam's grave (do you know the origin of "sweet Fanny Adams"? ... a very unsavoury tale!) Walks last for 1 to 1.5 hrs and cost £2 for adults and 50p for kids but will get a discount for groups of 15+. Let me know if interested by 1st Sept, altho' probably squeeze 1 or 2 more in on the day.

Also have the Curtis Mueum www.hants.gov.uk/museum/curtis and Allen Gallery www.hants.gov.uk/museum/allen in town. Will open on Sunday if sufficient interest.

Great ride on a steam railway for the kids (and Mums & Dads!)

Coors Brewery in town do guided tours during the week but trying to arrange for a Sunday one - guide on holiday 'til 18/8 - will keep you posted.
