The best way to a good job is education and patience!

I trained for 8 years to get where I am - and thats not very far, really.

I have witnessed get-rich blokes who see a quick buck in anything - they now look at me and think I am lucky!!

Well, all I can say is, "Being this lucky took a lot of time and effort!"

And, yes, I agree with the English comments - a badly written letter or CV spells disaster! Whatever the job!

I see youngsters writing like they are texting ....... I have to say, it looks CR4P!

Jezuz Crhist!!??

Dint realiz dis woz a god dam inglish clarse? thort I woz on da scubie knet!!

Anyway, never mind all this crap about correct punctuation and spelling.

I dont believe anyone here is applying for a job by posting messages on the forum, so why does it matter if someone’s English is either:

1) a little poor generally.

2) a little poor as they don’t want/have to impress you people.

My English isnt brilliant and I have an English teacher as a mother, but I still earn what I consider to be good money, over 30k before enhancement and overtime, and enjoy my job.

I blagg everything and have always got through the application/interview stages by doing what I need to in order to succeed. I don’t spend time on forums trying to be the next great-I-am!!!

Cool down and give this fella some GOOD advice.

I usually find that the ones looking down their noses have all sorts of insecurities!!! ring true with anyone here?

I consider writing in proper English to be GOOD advice. You never know who is watching. Why be lazy? It's a bad habit. We all didn't spend all our time in education to get lazy about English. As I said, it gives off a bad impression.

Afraid I have no insecurities to speak of. I do not consider "good advice" to be seen as looking down his nose. In fact, I suggest HIS response in terms of "I'm going to get a 1st or 2/1 in Economics" is perhaps trying to position himself in a higher plane and give off a "what do you know" impression. Suffice to say, he's got a long way to go, and a lot to learn.

Wanting to present oneself in the best light regardless of where you are or what you are doing is a habit for some,

Others just couldn't give a F - and say, "Its just a BBS"

Its a state of mind - I edit posts if I see an error I may have made, its called pride .......................

As I also said before, the youngsters are also failing to see the irony of their bad use of English on a thread entitled "How do you get a good job in this country".

Says it all. I guess understanding of irony comes with experience

Mr Beef,

Quite how this makes me "insecure", I'd love to know.
Reeled in? HOHO. You still have a lot to learn too

Edited to add, do you actually know what "insecure" means

imlach, it seems to make you feel uncomfortable that this guy talks about obtaining a 1st or 2.1. Thats what I am talking about old fella!!

Also, I would be very bored if I didn't have a lot to learn. My life would feel over, just like yours must!!

Oh, and its Sir Beef to you!!

I could have talked about my further education, but I didn't really want to belittle the poor boy of his achievements in comparison to others

Haha..

Well, im glad everyone appears to be appreciating the value of good written English on here as its always been one of my strong suits so i have no problems on that score.

I must admit though after briefly reading the Scarface thread that im very tempted to see if i can be the next Mr Big in the world of international drug dealing. Im not sure about being carved up with a machete though

'First you getta da money, when you getta da money, you getta da power, when you getta the power, you getta the woman' Very true!

(I apologise for briefly hijacking my own thread )

surely you get a good job by putting the work in and building up to (in many cases that is)

for my case, I got good GCSEs, good A-levels(all a and b) a good degree from a "proper uni" not a poly etc etc.................I then ended up in a **** job, no only joking I then proceeded to learn as much as I could about what I do to make myself as sellable as possible, ie be able to command a good salary. Yeh yeh Im an IT monkey, but there is HEAVY competition for good well paid jobs.

Other people have skills that command better money ie doctor, dentist, architect etc etc but once again they have spent years building up to it.

Other people are lucky, may fall into something they are good at, right place right time etc etc. My old boss left school with nothing, but happend to be a very good programmer(this is 20 years ago) and was earning 1000 a day aged very young! Other people set up there own companies etc etc.....................loads of ways to do it, no offense but you wont do it in a call centre..........you need to get into something that will allow you to progress.

ROFLMFAO!! I say that to myself a hundred, no, a THOUSAND times a day! I honestly cant see anywhere with LESS prospects than a call centre. The only reason im doing it anyway is to keep my mum off my back before uni but as someone who thinks very thoroughy about everything i do its seriously hurting my brain having to put up with all the sh*t that goes on and being told what to do by people that dont really know the meaning of independant thought. Its no slight on them as everyone is different but as someone who is, by nature, very individual i cant think of anything else i would less like to do, but unfortunately i cant do anything else because im only talking about a very short period of time without much time to change jobs before august.

Its quite ironic really because im unbelievably ambitious but my problem is that im inpatient and i want it all now!

I must admit one thing that does kill me is the fact that my dad earns more money from one good job (taking approx 8 hours) than i got payed in 5 weeks (approx 185 hours work) . And he still makes me pay for squash. I think theres a lesson in there somewhere!
