Lol @ Stefan, buttering him up indeed, GM's good with gearboxes , so you never know when you might need help.

John, yes that was my bolt they have.

I know, everyones right, Ian can answer all these questions, hopefully tomorrow. But this thread shows you how valuable these fourms can be. For someone like me who doesnt know much technical stuff its a start on learning things that may help one day.

Thanks for everyones time and input on this one.

Does any body know the spec of the hex head bolts.... not the ones that people are having problems with but the ones that hold the caliper to the bracket. One of mine is bent so need a replacement.... is it M14 again?

Cheers,

Tony.

Blimey , I go away for a week and all hell brakes loose ! right thats it no more holidays for me then

I have had some bolts on test while I have been away and some have snapped the heads off , it is a bolt issue as I changed supplier at the begining of the last group buy , So I will be sending new bolts out to everyone who recieved a kit , From what I can see the bolts will fail overnight of fitting them , so if you havent had a failure yet it probably wont happen , But I will be sending you out the supply of bolts we have been using for the last 10 years so this problem will stop.

With the head coming off the bolts , nothing will fall off as calipers cannot move as the discs are holding them in place , it's the same as having floating calipers.

But I would like to appologise to the ones having the problems as its the last thing I would have ever expected to happen.

Cheers Ian

Ian,

Can you tell me what bolts to buy to replace the bent one i have for the caliper to bracket type..... i need one urgently so i can put the caliper back on the car wednesday evening (hub off to have new wheel bearing fitted). Also how much would a couple of the D shaped spacers be, two seem to be slimmer than the other two and i had to bodge it using a couple of tiny spacers??

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the response and don't let this put you off going away and enjoying yourself When my bolt fell out, the car was perfectly safe as it doesn't move that much since the disc itself holds it in-place as you say.

My local bolts & fastners place gave me 8 FOC, so I've got plenty to spare myself.

All the best,
Stefan

Hi Ian

I ordered my kit before this group buy, but I had same problem anyway. You dont have to send new bolts to me(I know you want to), I bought new bolts already.

Cheers

Just use a sensible amount of Copperslip on the back of the pads, that helps, I've also tapered the leading edge of my pads, that helps a tad too!!

I've heard the shim/plates that go between the pads and the calipers are actually anti-squeek plates, but don't see how that can be true???
Not sure if mine are there anymore as I didn't fit this kit.

Phil ,

I'm surprised the Ferodo's are squeeling , they dont usually , How many miles have you done on them so far ? it could just be dust causing it while they are bedding in , You could fit some copper slip onto the back and sides of the pads making sure there is none getting on the disc and pad contact area.

Let me know how you get on

Cheers Ian

Yeah my Ferodo`s are squealing just now as well. Seems that if i`m doing a lot of about town driving they start squeaking like hell. Only when I`ve got a small amount of brake force applied to them. After some spirited back road driving it almost disappears. Maybe some sort of build up on the pad faces when only using the brakes lightly?? Then they get "cleaned" when braking hard?

Done about 1500 miles now. I agree they squeel like mad when doing very slow stops, very little pressure. If you do a massive stop/loads of pressuree they are usually fine. Not sure what it is. I'll strip and copper slip them up when I put these other bolts in. Anyone else not received their bolts yet?
