They must have been knackered for ages because the handling hasn't changed.

and this afternoon's session, first off was the battery swap & relocation, weight saving over the old, smaller than standard battery was 6kg (new one weighs 6kg) then was the refitting of the strut brace, they said it couldn't be done there's also a surprise under the IC too

I'd be very interested in the temp test with fans running and not, stationary aswell on the move

Well done I can see a real advantage with hill climbing/drag racing.

I manage 200 mtrs before I boot it so my temps get back down to ambient + 2/3 degrees anyway.

got a few updates to post but will do them with pictures tomorrow night maybe, for now i'll post my temperature findings while i can remember them

fitted probes to the hose straight after the turbo and one at the throttle body, here's what i found:

weather: 10-13 degrees, overcast/sunny

normal running (30-50mph) off boost, charge temp after turbo, 50-60 degrees, after IC, 10-12 degrees

on boost/WOT, charge temp after turbo 160 degrees after IC 20-30 degrees, but soon drops down 17-18 degrees after you back off

heatsoak temp (sitting at traffic lights for a minute or so) 20-30 degrees after IC, leave the car iddling for 5 mins, temps rise to 30-40 degrees, IC spray & fans drop the temps to mid 20s, doesn't seem to work aswell with just the fans running or just the IC spray

all in all, i was impressed by how well the top mount cooled and how quickly it shook off the dread heatsoak, will have another play tomorrow just to confirm what i've just said, i'll be doing some queueing so will see how it behaves in a drag queue scenario

they go anti clockwise and suck air through

well, i queued for about 45 mins to get into Oulton Park yesterday, temps stayed around 30 degrees for the first 30mins or so (air temp was probably 12 degrees or so) then rose to around 40ish, fans and spray would drop it to 23-24 degrees within half a minute or so, maybe .2 a degree a second

strangely enough, the coldest i can get the temps was 8-9 degrees and that was with a smidge of boost at about 25% throttle @ 80mph

just out of interest, 0.5bar boost charge temp was 130 degrees, rising to 150-160 @ 1bar upwards, didnt seem to get and hotter when at 1.5bar

Looks like there is no need for a front mount, when fans and ic spray are fitted. I would like to see some more results when ambient temperatures are higher, say mid 20-30 deg C. but these results are very encouraging for those wanting to stay with a top mount

yep, will be interesting to see what happens when summer finally gets here, might be a different story, i've not researched into what other people have been seeing with other top mounts & front mounts so not sure if these are the norm or slightly higher

these temps are with the higher scoop, no splitter, no sealing between scoop & IC as i've tlited the IC back further to get the strut brace back on so there's a huge gap around the sides and at the back, just goes to show it's probably not worth the hassle but i might do it anyway to see if there are any gains to be had

That seems hot .. is this the charge temp BEFORE the TMIC ?
Did I read on here somewhere that the ECU retards the ignition or similar when it sees high temps, or was that water temps ... or just certain cars???

I think it was water temp ( as most scoobies don't have air temp sensors for the ecu to read! ) based on heat soak on a drag strip etc. line up.

With your 2 fans the lack of seal on the scoop to tmic is less important ( but then why have a bigger scoop! ) as the TMIC will still get reasonable air flow through it, although it could be similar issue as an induction kit that the fans suck thru hot air from the headers etc.
Just a thought.

I've measured them Kev and I posted the results on my project thread. I've found that the temps rise on heat soak but fall back to within a few degrees of ambient after about 200 metres. I have a big scoop too, as well as i/c sealing.

On track the temps have been very good even in the height of summer. I'm now considering going back to the original scoop.

I used to measure post turbo and post i/c but the differential result didn't really tell me anything useful to me.

P1mark didn't get the same results and he's gone FMIC. I'm not sure why. Perhaps his turbo chucked out more heat?

i think i've found out what i needed to with the post turbo temps, was more interested to see how much work the IC had to do when on boost and how well it does it (and pretty impressed i am too), will now focus on air temps to see the ambient temp differences (got 25 metres of the stuff to play with and a bag full of connectors )
