Why do the US guys get a 2.5L engine?? is it cos of the crappy fuel they have to make up power? Is the block STi spec or "standard" WRX? Is it open or closed deck?
EDIT: Also to get the 2.5l have they increased the bore or the stroke (or both)?

DannyBoy, another way of interpreting what you've been told is, if you don't understand the end-game, don't imagine this as cheap and easy way of slapping on big power. Quite right, it isn't.
On the other hand, this also suggests that, if you do understand the full implications and a bigger capacity suits your needs, then this group buy is an absolute BARGAIN.
The same rules apply to anyone who goes internal with their motor - you enter a whole new world of potential power. AND potential risk.
John Banks has proved this route is a good one for those seeking serious power from a daily driver (and he's tried most other things). John may not thank me for saying this - sorry mate
- but that's good enough for me. I also happen to believe that I can fit the 2.5 into my UK00 and with a few changes/additions enjoy modest benefits for modest outlay. But yes, my ultimate game plan with cost £6k-plus at the end of the day - probably at least a year from now.
I intend to tread carefuly, and also to enjoy every step of the way

John what head gasket and engine gasket set did you use on your 2.5 ?
I'd not thought about gasket sets until yesterday. I've been given a price of @ $250 for the complete set.

Na its alright pretty much covered all that already. I was just wanting to know if you could get away with standard head bolts or not. I thought it would be the arp ones cause o the torque they would be producing

In the absence of further information I would suggest using standard head bolts and a standard EJ257 head gaskets.
My coolant situation could be due to not retorqueing the ARP head studs after 600 miles, or it could be just the coolant getting a bit hot and the head gasket(s) didn't leak at all.
I don't have the right fittings to test the pressure in the coolant system whilst driving, so I will get them retorqued on Thursday and see how we go from there.
