This thread is to gauge the interest in the above with the possibilty of starting a groupbuy.

I'm waiting to get an idea of price from the USA but as stated in a previous thread the ball park figure is £800.

I'm hoping that Harvey will organise the finer details as per hybrid FMIC.

Remember this is a short engine and it will be shipped by sea to reduce the cost.

If anybody has contacts in the USA and think they can beat the ball park figure please e-mail so I make enquires.

Anybody interested please add your name.

Yes, please.

Interested in a short motor or a short motor minus rods and pistons (ie block and crank) depending on prices.

john banks 20 January 2004 10:51 PM

Also interested in US STi heads if available.

I see a few asking for a block assembly ( block/crank ).

What rod / piston options are there for this engine, and what sort of cost would they be ??

To get an idea of how much a complete short motor would be with good rods and pistons.

Mark A 21 January 2004 02:57 PM

I've requested prices for 10 short engines which I should have in the next couple of days.
If I can't get 10 people to commit then the price would rise.

CataIunya 21 January 2004 04:45 PM

Should be keen....

ST AYE 21 January 2004 05:45 PM

Am interested.
Would prefer block and crank.

Hol 21 January 2004 08:39 PM

Im keen, have the cash.

But, no email at the moment, so send me a mail with updates, but until it comes back, Ill be checking this thread.

Edited to say that I hope people realise that these will be worth much more, once in the country. ;) So if you dont fit it or sell your car, its tsill gonna get you back what you paid. -IMHO.

EMS 21 January 2004 08:39 PM

The price for the total short block assembly is very LOW. You won't find better price for only block and crank, so buy the assembly!

Mark.

TopBanana 21 January 2004 09:30 PM

Oops, just replied to the other thread US STi thread

I'm in. Would it be possible to bring in 6-spd transmissions at the same time?

Mark A 21 January 2004 10:13 PM

EMS- yeah I had a feeling that might be the case, I think at these prices you could just ditch the pistons and rods.

Does anybody know the limits of the stock items ?

Jlanng- Once I get a price for the engines I'll try for the gearboxes, might need a period of time for everybodies credit cards to recover ;)

The limit of the stock internals appears to be well able to test Subaru gearboxes. Get those six speeds ordered.

You also need an extremely large (compared to TD04 or 05) turbo to blow big top end boost on one of these blocks. I suspect most people will not even tickle the engine internals, but we'll have to see.

Some of the new rollerbearing Garretts look nice

Hoppy 22 January 2004 12:18 AM

Already talk of a bigger blower, eh John ;) :D ?

Yes, very interested in a gearbox, too. Frankly, it appears one's no good without the other.

Richard.

Mark A 22 January 2004 12:37 AM

My first look for 6 speed gearboxes and I found some, hope you're all sitting down..........

$6000 (£3200) without the shipping and import tax
Same price as a replacement uprated 5 speed ;)

David_Wallis 22 January 2004 01:38 AM

they can be had cheaper..

dont even considering emailing me! You wont get a reply!

I'm possibly interested in a block.

Mark A 22 January 2004 09:14 AM

First price I've been given is @ £775 from a Subaru dealer in the US. Adding shipping & 25% import duty makes the final price about 1k.

Mark A

Mr J 22 January 2004 09:35 AM

I may also want one :D

M0NEY 22 January 2004 01:24 PM

27.5% import duty (10% and 17.5%) is near 1k without shipping! Need to find out how much shipping is goign to cost.

One dealer told me £450, another £150 and another £300. Thats going to be the killer

Thats why i didnt organise anything on the other topic. THey can eb had for about £700 in US, but shipping is a killer! :(

Mark A 22 January 2004 01:40 PM

Anybody weighed a short engine recently ?

Mark A

TopBanana 22 January 2004 01:44 PM

£150 doesn't sound unreasonable

wrrjones 22 January 2004 05:29 PM

it will be more than £150 prob double that cant remember how much mine was i will check ...c

TopBanana 22 January 2004 05:39 PM

It shouldn't cost £300, especially if we're getting 5+ at once. After all, it doesn't cost a *huge* amount to get a whole car sent over from Japan

Mark A 22 January 2004 05:59 PM

Anybody got a boat and fancy a trip across the pond.

I tried using the UPS cost calculator but it worked out as $540 for a 144Ibs package 30x30x20 inches.

This is a rough estimate until somebody can give me the weight and size or one of the possible suppliers gets back to me with shipping costs.

A UK supplier has also offered the above for a similar imported price. If you want details please contact me via e-mail and I will give you there details. I will respond to any e-mails tomorrow morning when back at work.

Im looking to join this group buy if it goes ahead but need to ask a few questions first i have a 97 uk car and need to know if all the bits heads, cam, pumps, flywheel, sump,Etc will fit the new Short block? also i was going to upgrade to a td05, bigger fuel pump and injectors and a tek2 at the same time does this sound about right

M0NEY 22 January 2004 06:55 PM

One company told me with crate it was 125lbs. Another told me it was closer to 200lbs in crate

When its 200lbs - thats why it was closer to the £400 mark!
