Groupbuy for US STi short engine
#152
compares the car directly to a Lambo Gallardo
Oh and BTW, I can still whoop a Gallardo in my poor old 2.0, ask Ev, Richard!

Well, I managed to blow a piston outside my block today by adding a ludicrous amount of NOS (150bhp ) so assuming my heads are OK I'll be after a 2.5 short engine.
The big question for me is how long does the boat take?
I need a car ready to run 1/4 miles by the 21 of March. What are my chances assuming I can get a suitable gearbox?
Oh and do these come with the 2.5 gaskets?
Cheers

Danny, i cant see the boat getting here before the 21 March. I dont think anyone has started paying deposits yet
But i could be wrong.
You can run your UK gearbox (if its still working) just dont put through as much boost through it!
if your thinking about putting the nitrous on the 2.5 at full pelt, you will be the first one to blow up the 2.5 as well! lol

Maybe just a little bit of nitrous for the 2.5 just to keep things nice and cool.
Wait a minute... is'nt that what I said about the last engine?

GB Name List
Add your name to the list below if you require a US 2.5 STi short engine.
Please read my previous post regarding cost and payment.
I will keep this GB open for 14 days unless I have a massive interest in which case it will close early. If I have little or no interest then I'll cancel the GB.

I might be able to get these at an even lower price. My mate who imports items from the USA has comeback with a rediculously low shipping price which could see the price drop to below £940 each, and if I'm charged an import rate of 2% and not 10% as used in the orginal calculations.
Lets hope the dollar remains high for the next couple of weeks.

I'm still awaiting a reply regarding the gasket situation from the supplier. I'm sure they can it's just getting a price.

Its maybe a bit late now but did you think off finding the price for the new forester 2.5 engine from japan it meant to be the same short block.

I plan to contact the supplier in the USA today and check availability of the short engines, once he confirms this then I will start collecting names (I'll use a new thread may be). This will be Tuesday most likely and I need between 5-20 lucky buyers.
I plan to take a deposit of @ £550 (once the US price is confirmed) from each member and pay for the whole batch on my credit card.
Once the engines are in the UK I would be charged for the shipping, import & VAT. I can then calculate the individual outstanding amounts.
The distribution point is proving slightly problematic. I'm hoping to use my friends warehouse or garage as the store while shipping to the UK is arranged. If the UK shipping is expensive then I'll deliver them myself in a transit van. The cost of this would be the hire & fuel divide by the number of people needing delivery.
Finally, if people participating in this groupbuy agree I would like a small reward or token of thanks for organising this. This would, numbers permitting be, buy 10 get 1 free i.e the US cost of a short engine divide by the number in the groupbuy. I would still pay for my own shipping, import tax and VAT. Using the costs I already have would mean a total price of @ £1035 with only your local UK delivery to pay if needed.

Price should be @£1000 but hopefully lower, depends on a number of factors mentioned in my previous thread.

Insurance- shipping or motor ?

Sorry guys, I've decided to pull out
I've been getting lots of info from the two most respected Sudaru engine builders in the country and lets just say I have been put off. Big Time.
Lets just say if you don't have £6000 spare its really not worth doing.
Sorry to put a downer on the thread Mark but I don't want people jumping in like I did without seriously thinking about the costs.
Your statement about just being able to bolt on all your old bits from the 2.0 is not strictly true. Standard un-mappable ECU's won't run it, compression will be wrong with standard heads and this is without the obvious clutch, turbo, injectors and gearbox issues previously mentioned.
This is definatly the way forward if you want BIG power though
