Question

Just wondering if someone local could phone to P.E. and ask them if it would be possible to have 550cc STI fitted by them the day I will book, prior to my remap ?

I own the 550cc but it would be a pita to drive from France to P.E. with a car not tuned to handle them.

It's for a 2001 bugeye.

P.S. case YES, the COST.

Thank for all.

I had my MY03 WRX remapped today and had a decat mid-pipe fitted in addition to the existing prodrive backbox so I now have a very similar set up to a PPP.

The new figures are 263bhp / 259lbs/ft at 1.1 bar boost, mapped by Chris.

The main limiting factor is that I have kept the original downpipe and PE will not set any more than 1.1 bar boost with this in place as the back pressure can damage it and the bits would be injested into the turbo.

I took it out for a spin tonight and the difference is very noticable. Whereas before, it would become a bit asthmatic over 4500rpm, it now pulls like a train. I am a very satisfied customer.

Many thanks to Neal to arranging this group buy and to PE & Ecutek for their expertise.

Cheers
Gary.

I thought it was only a restriction due to the oem uppipe / turbo precat ?

In fact, you still have 3 cats ?

Very conservative, so...

The MY03 only has two cats, one in the downpipe and one in the mid-section.

I think it's only the MY01-02 that has a cat in the up-pipe.

Yeah I guess they are conservative figures but I wanted it to be reliable and it's still slightly more power & torque than the STi UK and the WRX PPP

Yep more than happy with the results
Watching the car on the rollers is a bit scarey although everything went ok aside from losing the bung out of the blitz somewhere between Derby and Uxbridge
PE have suggested an uprated fuel pump so better put that on the list of things to do

I have been thinking of joining in on the group buy, but just spoke to Ian at PE and he said that he would not do my car on a Saturday, this is going to be a problem.

Cool

Well finally got mine sorted last week, dropped off Thurs and collected Sat.

I was a little disapointed to begin with as it was 279 and 270 but because they were really busy no one had called to discuss what I was after. After a bit of discussion Chris increased the boost to 1.2 bar and extracted the final droplets of power from my TD04 - the result a more satisfying 292 / 286.

Lovely and smooth it is too. Thanks again Neal

Duke - I'm going down to PE from North Staffs, so I can sympathise with your 'Saturday' problem - but I've taken the plunge and going on a Monday

Mark

PS _ Oatcake - what mods have you got, as you going the week before me ?

The mods, I feel like I've got them all and the Mrs says I've got more than my fair share

Erm, HKS green mushroom induction, Samco hoses, STi5 intercooler (with tilt kit ), Walbro fuel pump, FSE fuel pressure reg., 440 injectors, ported headers, Scoobysport up pipe and full rear system. 1.3bar peak, 1.2 held. Think that's about it

Seems that there's a common misconception on SN that the TD04 turbo is good for 300 easy, it's not it's just about all it can manage and only then if everything else is in place. Chris took a fair bit of talking to to be convinced that I really did want to push the turbo that hard. I'm glad he was happy though as it's feeling really good today

I've always thought that SN members believed that the TD04 'ran out' around 280-300. I don't think that I'll be taking quite that much home, cos I'm still running a standard fuel system...

I'm booked in on the 10th feb, the day after my birthday!(will be singing 'Happy Birthday to me' all the way back) lol

as for mods, well not as many as others on here, embarassing conpared to others, but here goes,

TSL thunder cat downpipe, decat centre, firestorm backbox, green air filter, uprated fuel pump.

i think the biggest mod is the weight mod that all scooby drivers end up doing - EMPTY WALLETS! lol

is the intercooler tilt mod worth doing?

Engine wise, You've more than me (ish)

I've only full de-cat and filter (though I'm going to get PE to fit an induction kit), + samco hoses

Although - the tilt kit seems worth while - I added 12mm to the front bracket and 22 to the rear, which tilts the cooler more to the air coming through the scoop and also make it match the rubber skirt on the scoop exactly, so ALL air goes through it.

I've spent quite a lot (~8grand) on the car in the last 18months, but on lots of areas :

4 pots, bigger front disks, racing pads (front and rear), braided lines, eibach springs, new 18" alloys, STIv6 rear spoiler, P1 front lip, strut brace, rear drop links, HID headlamps, PIAA driving lamps, new rear lenses, clear indicators, short shift and gaiter, boost guage, AFR and knocklink

Hoping to get a noticable improvement, as I've got a Dawes at the mo., which they'll be taking off.....

not alot between us then m8,

i've also spent around 7 grand (if you ever see the missus PLEASE don't tell her!) all on similar stuff, new alloys, morrettes, grille, de-tangoed, einbach's, geometry, short shift etc.

just wondering what sort of figures to expect after visiting PE.

When I was originally considering the Dawes, I mailed them to see how the PE conversion compared (max power wise), but turned it down due to costs at the time. The reckoned about 275, but I'm hoping to crack 280 (just to round it up ) with the tilt and splitter on the intercooler, the samco hoses and the induction kit.

Here's hoping !

I'm not sure if they'll do a before and after, as I'd like to know how the output compares with the Dawes - but I think that they may take it off before putting it on the rollers ....

Having said that, I'm hoping that the overall effect, rather than brute peak power, is large enough to notice - it appears to be according to the folks on here that have already been - Jayne won't be impressed if it isn't

Good Luck

Got my car re-mapped on Monday

Was booked for 10am but turned up early and they got started straight away.

I'd bought a K&N induction kit 2nd hand and was told not to put it on until I get there so they can make sure its the right one - and it wasn't Also to add more worry my car had been running with an ITG panel filter which is bad news for MY99/00 MAFs and had to be changed to a K&N panel before the mapping process.

Fortunately, the MAF was OK and the ECU accepted the new program OK. Had the GF with me so we popped round to the Cafe for breakfast cos she was getting annoyed with staring at engines!.

Asked for an element of safety and output after map was 269BHP/270LB/ft. Was surprised to find that before the map she was running a healthy 249/250 but the torque curve is where you can feel the difference.

Not a massive improvement but the car is much more driveable and has excellent pick up 50-90 70-100+ and is still quite safe from any nastiness happening under the bonnet.

Can't thank Neal and the chaps at PE enough for a great job done.

Hi Guys

Many thanks for the praise and thanks but at the end of the day there wouldnt be a group buy without you petrol heads so you should really be thanking yourselves.

Remember you are the customer tell PE what you want from the remap. If PE feel that it is not safe to go to that sort of power then ask if what they feel is safe, or if they have anything they can offer you to get it to that power. Then will they supply and fit it then remap it !!!! Eds is a good example of PE knowledge

BETTER TO GET IT DONE NOW THAN REGRET IT LATER !!!!!

So Mark tell them what you want mate !!!!

Cheers

Neal

Hello NEAL,

Can you phone to P.E. to ask wheter they can fit my 550cc b4 remapping, or sould I have them fitted elsewhere ?

And case they can, if they can also "parralelize" the fuel rail if it's really necessary ?

Thanks Mate.

Booked myself in for 24th march as the tax man is goner pay (Rebate).

What a saving!!!!! cheers neal for organising this Group Buy.

Not sure what to expect though, never had it RR'd before, running full Magnex de-cat (Inc Down Pipe) and K&N induction on my MY99.

somewhere over 280 would be nice.
