Emma - very happy for both you and Tim, think you will keep him on his toes, oh and I'm sure he'll play with the wee grey beastie, or just use it as a project car.

As for online dating sites, well, I've been on a quite a few, and have actually met somone from one, and we're very happy, so yet more proof that it does work.

Give it a go!

My pointers? Being honest is the best thing to do. I was very open and very honest in my profiles, did not care if I came across as a 6ft 4inch teddy bear with a big squishy heart, it's an honest view of who I am and that's the point, if a girl is looking for that then great, at least she knows from the outset what kind of chap i am, plus i'd rather be honest and not hide things away, don't see the point in doing that at all. So, be yourself. The other very important factor is, include a photo with your profile. Everybody says "looks don't count" but we all know that is complete crap, and that there *has* to be some physical attraction for things to work, but looks are not the be all and end all of everything, hell, I'm not that much of a looker but I got quite a few people that were interested!

The other pointer is, find a good site. for example, Yahoo is ok, but you will no doubt get quite a few odd people on there, there are some great sites out there. I did post up a few on another dating thread that was posted up, so do a search, or have a look here. There are some very very good dating sites, and some of them are free, it's a pain finding a good site only to find you have to pay to use the messaging features.

I was on Lavalife (US only though pity as it's great), eHarmony (think it's US only, again, a big pity), udate, matchmater (v good), lifematesonline, and probaly a few others. Others I've tried in the UK include datingdirect and midsummerseve.com which is also damn fine.

so which one worked for me, well, had a few ladies interested from lavalife and matchmater, plus eHarmony matched me up with a few people too. However, the one where I found, actually, *I* was found, was lifematesonline (think it's US only, not sure though), it's a pretty good site actually.

The other thing I would say is that don't lose heart if you don't get loads of people contacting you straight away, it could take a few days, weeks, or even months before you get anyone interested, just sit back and relax. I did start off wildly searching and messaging quite a few people and being a bit miffed when I did not get a reply, then i just sat back and chilled out and only sent one or two 'winks' a week, after about a month of nothing I decided I'd totally chill and give it a rest and not persue but let myself be persued, so I sat back and actually did get probably more interest that way then proactivley searching, and during this phase I signed up for lifematesonline, and within a 2 days of signing up I had been messaged by an absolutley wonderful girl, I replied to her message, and we got emailing (big tip here, you're usually not allowed to put email addresses in your profile, but if you send a message to someone, do try and include a proper email addressin the message, this is as some systems charge you to send messages on thier system, and this is a way to bypass that, sneaky I know), and then called each other and now, well, Ellie and I are very happy together

In summary, nothing wrong in my mind with online dating, some may say it's weird, but I don't, I'm just a bit shy at meeting girls, so I found it to be the best way for me, your milage may vary.
