Dear All,
The front door glass of an Impreza is marked AS2 which means that the glass already only allows 70% of available light to pass through it therefore any tint film put on it make the glass illegal.
You will notice that imports only have rear doors and back windows tinted

Rozzer - does that absolutely kill any notion of additional tinting then? Really wanted some on the Range Rover to keep the little girl cooler in the back. Genuine pose reason

Memo - the regs/law are there for safety reasons - the law doesnt care if you look like a pimp or not; it cares if you see the pisshead on a pushbike with no lights...

 

Had my Sti8 (Black) done. Just rear windows, looks the dogs. Doing the front would look OTT for me.

the tinter did say the low tint film they use on fronts is actually illegal (something like 40%) so check where you are having it done that they have a greater range.

May have to bail from this one Guy's after reading Rozzers Comments, Have checked my windows and they are marked AS2 So cannot do any tinting,Do not like the look when just the rear side windows are done and not the fronts, Do not want a tug just for this..

Went down to see him 2day and here are the prices:

Impreza (any age) Normally £250, Cash £190 (they can do 2 a day, Mon - Fri)

Forester: all day job (mostly) Normally £395, Cash £290

To get these prices we need all the people in the list.


He stressed that it is illegal to have any tints in the front windows, however he has fitted up to 35% tint or higher (lighter) and never in 15 years had any1 say they have been done by the police.
If you do get tugged, they will fit a lighter shade for free.
You can go darker then 35% if u want but they wont change it for free.

They are guaranteed for life and if you want they can perform the light test and write it on the form for you.

I have some samples and have stuck them in a window on the car.

from the left, the tints are 50%, 35%, 20% & 5% (limo)

he suggests the following:

fronts 35%
rears 20%
back 5%

this gives a nice grade from light to dark to the rear of the car.

however they will do wotever you want.

He suggested that if you are worried about the insurance, check with your company and their advice.

I was quoted £300 for a Range Rover (read greenhouse on wheels) that included REMOVAL of the 4 side windows so the film goes all the way to the edges for a top job. Just giving the cost some perspective here guys - not making any comments on quality etc

Had mine done so just a couple of comments in case they're any use to someone..
1. we had a sunstrip put on the front window.. so essentially to the level that the sun visors come to.. He fitted this first and it looked like a nova.. yuck! but when the rest are done it now is pretty hard to see from the outside and is good for kids sat in the back seat.
2. when we told the insurance co we said had it done because of new child. No charge. It was the truth..
3. It was done in the street.. no problems and is a quality job
4. Cost 275
