Company in Thurrock, Essex.

Normal price for 4 side windows and rear £225 + vat (£265)

Now depending on numbers who want fitted I will be able to get a better price.

They do 2 cars a day, mon - fri at their premises. Reason being that they take their time and do it proper. Have seen their work and its A1.

Legalities on tinting:

Fronts: Illegal to have any tint but unless u get a real 'by the book' cop, up to a 35% tint is ok. If u do get pulled they will change it to a lighter tint - FREE OF CHARGE.
They will do darker but then wont change the tints for free if u get a pull.

As a rule of thumb he said he does 35% fronts, 20% rear and 5% (Limousine) on the back window, this gives a good effect. But they will do wot ever you want.

so if ur interested stick ur name on here so i get an idea of the numbers we're talking.

Windscreen services on Canvey island did the wifes car all round for £180, again they do 2 cars a day and are top notch.

would have to be a very very good price, as the company by me does them for 250 all in, and it would only cost me 2 miles of petrol instead of 500 miles in petrol :)

Vinnie Mac 19 September 2003 07:24 PM

could be m8, depending on price and how long the deal lasts, probably cannot get car there before end of October

Dazza012 19 September 2003 07:33 PM

There seems to be varing differences on the legalities of window tinting going around, the chaps who did mine say and it's stated on my guarantee that u can tint the driver & passenger front windows upto 35%.
The rear windows and rear screen can be tinted as dark as you like with what they call "LIMO BLACK".

So any OFFICERS out there who can actually check this out and post a reply ???

MISS SCOOBY STI 20 September 2003 01:01 AM

I've been told different things re window tinting.
I was told the actual law is a grey area - depends on whether the glass is tinted or the tint is a film on the glass!!
Would like some help cos Im getting grief over this!

IanW 20 September 2003 02:58 AM

This is taken from the Construction and Use Regulations for Motor Vehicles:-

LIGHT TRANSMISSION OF GLAZING - Summary of requirements
Motor vehicles first used between 1/6/1978 and 31/3/1985 must have windows which allow at least 70% of light to pass through. Motor vehicles first used on or after 1/4/1985 must have windscreens which allow at least 75% of light to pass through - all other windows must admit at least 70% of light.

These requirements do not apply to:

any part of the windscreen outside the vision reference zone (as defined in C&U# Regulation 32(13));

windows through which the driver is unable, at any time, to see the road;

windows in ambulances which are behind the drivers seat;

windows in buses, goods vehicles, locomotives or motor tractors which are behind the drivers seat (except those which face the rear - as defined by C&U# Regulation 32(12) - or which form all or part of an exterior door); and

windows in cars which are fitted behind the drivers seat and which bear an e mark indicating type approval to the European glazing Directive 92/22/EC.

Tinted film
C&U# Regulation 32 does not specifically prohibit any window from having a tinted film applied, but a window with a tinted film which takes light transmittance levels below those specified above could be interpreted as contravening the Regulation.

So basically the front windows on an Impreza must allow 70% of light to pass through them after the film has been applied.

Could you elaborate on this please?

lightning101 20 September 2003 11:03 AM

How can the police measure the difference between percentages of light coming in the windows - and by the time you took it to court you could have changed them to 60%

*Sonic* 20 September 2003 11:10 AM

its easy they carry a light meter

lightning101 20 September 2003 11:15 AM

Thats not a very good answer - they would also need to base it on something - like panes of glass with 0%, 50%, also what is to stop you disputing it in court and changing them meantime like I said. I did realise it was a light meter BTW.

Plus - Armed response teams have limo tints on their cars

iain ross 20 September 2003 11:46 AM

im interested as long as the legal side is sorted and theres enough of a price incentive . pic new car up on 30 october they wouldnt tint for me but did recomend orpington car stereo. not sure of there price yet though

SyHightower 20 September 2003 12:10 PM

windscreen can have tints on as long as its not in the sweeping area of the wipers. which is the viewable area.

Simon

Supercue 20 September 2003 12:14 PM

I'm up for Rear screen and rear side windows dependant on cost and locality.

Chris29 20 September 2003 06:46 PM

The legislation is changing soon so the previous reply might not be 100% corretc. Far as i know and traffic lads i talked to all glass should let 70% light through now. The reason for the change (or a big factor i have been told) is the unfortunate shooting new years eve i think in Birmingham where the sisters were killed. Drive by car was blacked out, no-one got a look at driver shooter etc. Good law as far as i can see, you don't need darker than 30% IMHO.

Ayde 20 September 2003 09:38 PM

Sonic,

Is that for sides and back or just the two rear and the back? I take it you are on about Boundary - That Audi they have done looks good:)

Ayde.

Screamer87 20 September 2003 09:42 PM

BUT ALL WINDOWS IS WHAT I WANT IS THAT COOL

*Sonic* 20 September 2003 10:32 PM

Ayde

Yep it is Boundary, they quoted me that price based on 4 sides & rear

If you want the non legal tints on the front sides, then they will do it, but with no receipt :)

Ive seen their van, and a Shogun that went in for full 5% Limo tints all round

goonasuk 21 September 2003 01:05 AM

I can get Window Tints done for £150 - done professionally by a company in London Colney near St Albans!! And this is not a special prioce this is their standard rate!!! well was a year ago anyway can't imagine it has gone up that much, if people are interested I can dig out their number. If you mail me on marc@car-torque.net it will remind me to dig the number out.

You can see the job that was done on my old Cavalier V6 (excuse its state it had jsut been jet washed and not dried)

There is a new company started in Liverpool that is doing Tints too, not sure on prices yet, but I have been told that it would be a very good price

catalunya199 21 September 2003 09:51 AM

i went to a place in basingstoke about tints and he told us the law is changing shortly.

anything on the back windscreen
nothing less than 35% on back windows
nothing less than 50% on front

it seems to be the front windows causing the most problems with the legality going around.

Gangsta Smurf 21 September 2003 01:22 PM
