Plus, just for my two penneth, I don't think that on a forum as public as this it is entirely fair to slate somebody. As fellow enthusiasts we should expect fair and most of all calmly delivered critiscism from those with more experience. I know if I was going to go out on track at Silverstone I would appreciate other drivers comments.
Not to mention, unless someone says anything to you it may well seem from inside the car that you are doing nothing more than having a good time.
Let's all play nice and not treat each other with disrespect, after all, we all have scoobs because we love 'em!

I try not to get involved in these things, as they invariably end up nasty.

However, I was also on track at Japfest, rally day and yesterday, and I have to agree with all points raised.

I think the reason nobody has said anything up till now is because we are all pacifists and enthusiasts, who just want to meet up and share a joint passion. The last thing people want during huge meets like this is confrontation. And although I have no doubt that Phil is approachable, and would deal with such a situation in an extremely tactful way, nobody likes to be a 'telltale'.

So you are left with a situation where really you should have a word directly with that person, but you don't want the confrontation, particularly given some of the comments that have come from that direction in the past. It's a tricky one.

Thanks

I think the point being made is that if you want to have a word about someones driving do it on the day in person or at least through the organiser [SIDC yesterday]

Agreed, this is how it should be dealt with, and it would have been, had his car not blown up.

My point is that, particularly when several people have a problem, it is often easier to talk amongst yourselves than for one person to take the initiative, and the potential backlash, and make the point.

You also have to bear in mind some people are more approachable than others, and some people are more timid etc.

Of course there may be some discomfort, especially when there is pride at stake, and we all know that wounded pride can be a dangerous thing, but to be fair we aren't teenagers, and I know that if I was unintentionally upsetting people I would rather be told in person. To be honest I don't think that this is the place to be airing concerns as I would find it more hurtful this way. There is a little too much nastiness here where a calm and quiet word would have done.
Perhaps there should be some apologies for being quite so quick to call someone a cu*t when a simple FAO post with a contact number would have done. Especially when the person involved is a nice guy who is no different to any of us and may not be as aware of trackday 'etiquette' as others are.
This kind of argument should not be happening on an enthusiats forum in this kind of way IMHO.
Pacifist mode off.

Nozzer,
I Also agree with you as I was on same Track session at Japfest and at Silverstone, Paul NP was going to bring the matter up with the Lad

All,
As Phil posted earlier, I agree, it's possibly 'Our' fault is not telling him the Problems his causing behind him and not To slate the guy of on a PC. Perhaps someone ought to post a Track ettiquete guide in the Track session will need to read it myself

Cheesy
I think you meant me with a TONY W nomber plate and No problem I was prepared to wait my Turn

John B,
Opologies if I was getting too close to you, but I had 2 slow laps, with £70 the Comp Car insurance for my only 20min session I got a little frustrated after playing follow the leader. So sorry about MY poor Track ettiquete

Tony

My post may have started off a little too moany. I had a great time on track, and was only stuck behind the white-un for 2 1/2 laps, but I didn't want to overtake on a corner because I didnt want to risk my pride and joy. This is also why I didn't flash my lights or anything at him - I didn't want to annoy him into doing anything rash to put us at risk. At that point I wasn't aware he'd done tracktime before.

I wasn't going to mention it on here, but it's nice to know it wasn't me imagining it. Just a bit irritated that I could have been off shredding my tyres a bit more

I agree with what Ed is saying regarding approachable people etc, and I do not know the owner (or even if he is on here etc). I do not find it particularly easy to talk to people i do not know - let alone in a situation where i would be questioning the way they are driving. Some people would get shirty about it.

If it had been a half-day session or something it really wouldn't have bothered me. I'd have just come off and gone back on in a few mins. But it was a slightly different scenario.

Andy

I enjoyed my track time
The first lap and a bit were taken pretty carefully, but then i
setteled in a bit.
I let a few past early on, but then ended up playing follow my leader with another classic.
Managed to pass a couple as well
As others have said, with most cars similarly powered its hard to
pass when you exit a bend following another car, unless he pulls over.
Anyway, thanks to SIDC for orgainising it.

Roll on the next meet.

Guess I was lucky then.... For my sessions I overtook a couple of cars and then pretty much had the track to myself

Big thumbs up to Trax for making the whole GP cucuit available. Much better than the touring car of previous events.

I had a whale of a time.

James.

Iain it was a very good show of what the spec C can do You were drifting impressively well - gaining and passing other scoobs with complete ease (all apart from the T plate Sonic blues STi V5 2 door = who could also drive his car very well and has a very quick car!! )

guys after reading that im not sure i would want to go out on a track with most of you.
I drive a my00 WHITE classic SPORT and odviasly<SP?> not as qwik anywere on track as any of the turbos
esp, that red spec-c WOW lol,

and if that would be your attitude to me i think things would get heated, you have to remember people that for most of us they are ower everyday car and some people take more care of them <some over the top but thats up to them> than others

like i said though i HAVE been out on track with fellow impreza drivers at rallyday on the 4.40 sesion and had a great time but you guys i think have put me off...........

It wasn't that they were slower? Have you not read what we've put. There were pulling away (from me at least) on the long straights. They were very very slow round the corners, which is fine - it's their car, their tyres etc.

In the driver breifing we were told to be VERY aware of traffic in the mirrors, and if a car was behind you constantly, it was that they wanted to come past, ease off the throttle on the next straight and indicate right. Job done. Car passes, everyone carries on.

Not "slowing them right down on the corners so they are right up behind, not indicating right, blasting off down the straight, then braking early for the corner. repeat".

There were plenty of other cars out there going slowly but still driving courtiously. No-one has complained along the lines of "who let that car out its too slow"...

Andy

SiDHEaD,

Totally agree with your sentiments above. That sums it up perfectly, particularly when we know this has happened 3 times this year.

YES mate i can read but like i said even if i had my toe to the floor and started going into a series of bends by the time i got half way about a turbo would be up my bum and would STILL have to wate till the str8 to get past <where he odasliy would> but if i had the power of the white wrx and as i entered the str8 and put my foot down and looked in the mirror and the car behind was fading away WHY would i pull over out the way,

ok maybe he should have moved out of the way just before he enter,s the bend thus letting you passed

but like YOU said he was qwiker on the str8s so if he lookes in his mirror as he enters the bend and your not there why should he pull over,

Must say that I'm more than happy to accept my language was rather strong last night and as I have previously mentioned I would have much prefered to have had a quiet chat after the session.

I know the unfortunate engine blow-up was one of those things and would definitely have prefered to have the opportunity to speak my words face-to-face, but this didn't happen through no fault of my own. I was standing in the enclosure waiting to have a chat. I didn't get a chance to have this, was still pretty hacked off and had to have my say the only way that I could. Which I did...

another thing if you just wanted sum fun on the bends why didnt YOU hold up on one of the str8s so by the time you enter the bends he has just left an on his way thus making it available to you to try and copy the spec-c around the bend lol,

newport white scooby - the cars complaining are all (mostly) also v fast, tuned scoobs that WERE right behind on straights, and even flashing their lights, and this also applies to the situations previously in the year.

In the briefing you are specifically told not to overtake under braking / in the braking area, but after being held up for 30-40% of the session, that is what people were forced to do.

Yes, but then what about the people behind *you* who will then be forced to overtake / brake etc. it's never that simple...

newport_white_scooby -- that's not how it works. If cars are demonstrably quicker than you through the bends (e.g. nothing behind on one lap, car all over your **** on the next) you should indicate, move to one side of the track (usually the right, but depends on the track and organizer), and lift off to let them past.

NWS, i know your sticking up for your mate, but how much ear wax is lodged in your ears, your not listening, its happened 3 times this year, perhaps you both need them syringed at the drivers briefing.

Maybe he could answer a few of your questions.
