Does this make me racist
Robo - what you just said is pathetic.
Because they are more racist in Saudi it makes it OK to be somewhat less racist in UK - esp if a 'darkie' has a 'high standard of living' washing machine or a video in his house? You really sadden me & thank god most people I know would be really saddened by your attitude.

Diesel - your attitude is pretty nice.
For me, whislt I fully comprehend the social problems of racist jokes, I do find some racist/sexist/homophobic/fattist/ageist etc jokes funny. Not all of them. How do you get a black man out of a tree etc; that's not funny. I don't find them funny when used to intimidate people. I've got a lot of anti-racist credentials that I won't bore everyone here with. However I did find that joke slightly funny.
strange old world, innit?

I haven't read the thread.....
Once i was in the company of a couple of Bangladeshi friends and subject turned to food and i sugested we get a 'chinky' which they said they thought to be offensive(slightly)but i saw it in the same way as British person bieng called a brit abroad and could not see the problem (what do you reckon? ), as for Paki,i think it's in the way it's said...it can be both offensive or not,as would bieng called a brit be offensive if one was called it by someone with a grimace on their face at the time(or not...)...

i agree that pc has gone too far , can you imagine a sit com where there's a black guy and a white guy living next door to each other and all they do is take the **** out of each other all the time , it was called " love thy neighbour " it wouldn't be allowed these days , but when it was shown it wasn't regarded
as being racist but i guarentee you in this bollocks pc climate it would be called racist. even though it is still showed in the west indies , i just think that pc was a good idea but as all things at the moment it has become ridiculous !!

Another Manning favourite:
The <<add your favourite ethnic minority group here>> chap from next door comes knocking at the door: "Ah Mr Manning, your house same size as my house. Your front room same size as my front room. How many rolls of wallpaper did you buy to decorate your front room"?
"Forteen".
A week later, another knock. "Ah Mr Manning, your house same size as my house, your front room same size as my front room. I have 4 rolls left over"
"So have I".

The "Paki" word has taken an offensive meaning because it has been used in derogatary way. So,even if used in joke,it will still be sounding racist to many ears even when it is funny. It will be funny with nastiness in it,I'd say.Like-cruel humour!
You won't ask any Pakistani looking person if he/she is Paki. But you will slag her/him off or make fun of that person behind his/her back calling them "Paki".Or in an argument with them,I suppose. And it can be any Asian who be taken as "Paki"-no matter if they are Indian or Pakistani.so,yes, you can be taken as racist even for finding it funny-I don't mean lawfully(I don't know about that)but socially, yes.saying that, people make fun of all sorts.English laugh at Welsh,Hindus are joking about Sikhs so who gives a toss anyway?

lol @ Spoon!
Olly mate - I dont get that one either....
Again, I have to ask, wheres the joke? - the actual thing that makes that funny???
What a punchline eh? "So have I" boom boom
I get what they're saying but there just ISNT anything amusing about it. Ok, so the neighbour should have asked "How many rolls did you USE" rather than "How many rolls did you BUY", but I mean.... jeez - is that really humour??
And CC, Yep, your threads start debate - never a bad thing.

Messiah
Only 1% of Cumbrians are hetrosexual now!
Maybe thats why Lakes "Camping" Trip attracted so much attention
BOT
As usual with Manning. It's an old and basic joke.
Even in the long lost pre PC days.
When the "How do you get 14 Pakies to sleep in one room?
Buy them a double bed" approach was accepted ,it wasn't funny IMO.
It would at least be topical if Asylum Seeker was substitited for Paki but would it still racist?
thats just becuase the population here must be more than 99% white. The same goes for gays.

Gussie Cup, i'm sorta guessing you've never seen Bernard Manning do a routine, right? In the cold light of day you could pick it apart line by line, as you're doing, and over-analyse it. In the middle of a routine, it would have a totally different effect. I've seen him perform and i've had trouble breathing from laughing so much.
Point taken TelBoy - you're right - I've never seen a whole Manning show.
I remember when I was a kid seeing him on TV and wondering what was funny about what he was saying (didnt get it then either!) and I sort of tuned him out from then on.
Maybe I should re-visit and watch one of his videos with an open mind. He seems to have a lot of admirers.

Good plan!
Personally, i really struggle with Chubby Brown, because to me he just lives off getting a laugh from repeatedly saying the C word. Five minutes of it is amusing for the shock value, after that in my opinion it all becomes a bit unimaginative...

Do you mean to tell me that 'minorities' do not have jokes about other races?? Every type of people has jokes about other races! i work abroad, and i can guarantee that blacks take the **** out of white people, whites take the **** out of black people, Indians take the **** out of pakistani people, and so on! Quit the whinging, and accept it!
