Does this make me racist
I guess it depends on how the comment is come across aswell.
At the end of the day, no matter what is said, your going to upset someone along the line, whether said in jest or not.
Also some people only make racist/humour jokes to people they know who can take it, saying it to someone you don't know is taking a risk.

I recon most 'British' humour is at the detrement of other nations, races, religions, disabilities and or sex. Has been that way for ever. So called jokes about race are less well received an our nation becomes more mixed and multiracial(used mixed for want of a better word).
I am for want of a better word fat and British but can see the humour in fat jokes and Englishman, ???man and whateverman jokes and a as long as it is in jest and not a deliberate put down or slur.
How do you define jest and who draws the line???
Fecked if i know. Best not to tell em if you are gonna offend someone.
As for you being racist if you find a joke funny then it depends, did you hate this particular race in the first place or do it to delibertly upset, offend or incite trouble, if no then maybe not.
Who am i to judge.

Manning is a bit weird these days. Spends his life walking round in some horrid white pants.
As for Davidson - he spends a great deal of his time and effort doing charity work. I can't see a problem with that. If you don't like his humour, don't watch him.
People need to chill out more. Stop getting so stressed out.

Foreign tossers.
That's supposed to be funny, see. If you thought I was being offensive, then you need to grow a sense of humour. It's one of the few things that distinguish us from animals.

Politcal correctness has gone too far - it wasn't so long ago that the powers that be were trying to ban "Captain Scarlet" just because the villains name was Captain Black.

Strange how Quentin Tarantino has agreed to stop using the word "******" in his films, yet as far as I know, no-one has complained about "Honky".
I come from a very rural part of England, and non-whites are very few and far between. ******, Paki and ***** are all words used commonly by everyone I know, including the elderly, so you can say that this is a rather racist area - but maybe thats just becuase the population here must be more than 99% white. The same goes for gays.
It seems at the moment that an able-bodied, non-pensionable white man is one of the most down trodden persons in the UK.
True Story -
When I was looking around for my car, I went to a place somewhere between Leeds and Bradford (Rodley?) to look at a motor. On the way back to the motorway, got a little lost and ended up in, well I don't know. I was just driving down a road looking for a sign that had M62 written on it when an Asian in a Rover pulled out in front of me (from my right). It looked like he was expecting me to stop to let him pull out (there wasnt another car in sight), and becuase I just kept on going, he had to slam his brakes on to stop me ploughing right through him. I had my window down and heard the phrase...
"You F*cking White C*nt"

It's generally accepted that paki is a racist term and not a shortened version of pakistani (although this is obviously the origins of the word).
Most people who call asian people paki's are probably ignorantly unaware that the people they are talking about are not originally from Pakistan. Many are from India or Bangladesh etc.
So unless they are sure they are from Pakistan they are either a)racist or b)ignorant.
Some racist/sexist/ageist/gingerish/etc. jokes are funny. The one originally posted appears to have no humour/punchline or joke-like qualities attached to it whatsoever. It looks more like a racist statement than a joke. I can't for the life of me see how it could be defined as a joke. Could someone explain it for me?

British humour is probably some of the most complicated and subtle in the world, and is frequently self-targeting. We're also some of the most liberal people in the world - how many people complained at the "Going for an English" sketch on "Goodness Gracious Me"? It was enormously racist, but side-splittingly funny.
It's about time some people learned to laugh at themselves, instead of walking around with a massive chip on their shoulders.

Drac, you DO realise that the first and third spoken sentences of CC's original joke (or whatever you want to refer to it as) are spoken by a Pakistani.
You do realise that, don't you?

I do now! But the joke as it is written is not a joke. For it be a joke it should surely read...
----------------------
was chatting with my pakistani neighbour yesterday and he said
"you are a better man than me"
Bernards said "Why"
He said "'cause I haven't got a paki living next door to me"
----------------------
Still not a very good joke though is it. It's also about 25 years old and out of date.

Being relaxed enough in your own lack of racist tendencies to find that 'joke' funny means you are just perpetuating and tolerating racism, whilst not actually contributing to it. That's a bit weak & lacking in integrity & backbone to me - especially whilst still sniggering away naughtily behind the bike shed? That's how I boil down the defensive bleats of 'political correctness gone MAD' here anyway...
One bad gag does not create racism, but in you permitting yourself to laugh at a racist gag you perpetuate and permit negative objectification of the few by the many (sorry that sentence is a bit Will Self
). The next step could be a brick through some hard working bugger's shop window from another guy who heard the gag, laughed his **** off & it hit a drunken chord with him, but HE can't quite balance the right vs wrong issues as good as some of you guys. This I think is particulary true of those that justify a cheap laugh by saying they have a paki/gay/fat/spick mate. That is SO head in the sand, naive and simple downright two faced.
If the butt of the joke would be hurt by hearing it, leave it out and just be a bigger and more worldly-wise man.
D
PS and if a 'Paki' is racist towards someone (a non moslem for example) this applies to them too, and this is NOT an excuse for us all upping the ante on the racist front. Do you see the negative feedback loop?

Who gives a toss! any Pakistani, Bangladeshi or Sri Lankan has a great standard of living in the UK compared to thier home countries, so they should be able to take a little bit of **** taking now and again.
If you want to see racism, i work in Saudi Arabia and you want to see how Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Sri Lankans are treated over here, would be an eye opener for a few of you i`m sure.
