Where is the rev limiter on the LC? (wondering about speed in each gear compared to the M5).

I was womndering about that too ... couldn't find any information on it though. I reckon it's probably somewhere between 6000 and 6500, which would give it higher in-gear speeds than the M5 (although not by that much in 2nd/3rd/4th)

There's a few speedo piccies of LC's going around! The previous owner of mine had one too, 280kph/175mph IIRC, and I believe there was still a little left!

Ian, I'd like to see this article on shoving a straight 6 LC engine into a Cavalier, must have been cramped and very warm in the cabin!

I always piped dreamed that idea, had no clue that someone had actually done it!

i go away for 2 days and your all ready to kill each other..LOL

hi mark..I do remember you
were you not at Billing this year??? i only realised my m8 from manc Mark James was there on sunday night when it was all over!!!
good to hear from you and glad your doin ok

look...ian...in a straight race the lotus would get so far ahead of the m5 that the m5 driver would just give up.....in many ways its also a better drivers cars...lovely controllable rear wheel drive handling...as you have already mentioned that you can turn the traction control off on the m5...however if you did the LC would dance all over its rotten corpse as it chews it up and spits it out of its exhaust before bursting down the road and into the glory of victory.

oh and heres a link to a pic for y'all

http://www.btinternet.com/~collonense/Lotustype104/otherlotuses/MoreLotus/lotus_dials.jpg

oh and i just thought i'd mention..... If you derestrict M5's and tray and run them at top speed for longer than 5 minutes they have a tendency to go *POP*.

whereas theres a bloke called joe ellis who every year goes to nevada and races his LC against 800hp american muscle cars (vettes etc...) not only does it not blow up it mixes it with them....

so take your m5..and keep it

Well that must be mint for that amount, as in probably below a couple of thousand miles on it and been stored away for years.

Just reading back about the gearbox, i think the car is fitted with a corvette ZR1 6 speed gearbox so replacements aren`t that bad. Had a close shave at knockhill when going from second to first on the straight by mistake (looking for third at top revs), loud bang, thought the worse but luckily the clutch exploded and not the gearbox!
Also, i`m sure i read that they couldn`t reach anything near 200mph due to aerodynamics?? I think that stripping them still wont quite see them hit the 200mph but mind you, i`m sure the same was said for the GTR!!
There is a guy in the UK , a complete buff, who has logged and kept tracks on every car that entered the uk, so if you are looking to buy one, give me a shout and i will get in touch with him, he will be able to tell you absolutely everything about the cars history. If he cant, then walk away as its obviously some dodgy import or something.

Sigh ... sorry (I rarely ever say this) but that's bollocks.

I think you probably read that one M5's engine had gone pop after a long run at top speed. Then you thought you'd use the full force of your ignorance to apply that trait to all M5s in order to make a point.

Tut, tut, tut, tut ...

Ian.

£35k ey...i dont even think the vauxhall heritage one would sell for that much...mind you i heard that frosts have some of the few brand new crated LC engines left in existence.

your right it is the corvette 6 speed box in the car.

missed out on a few lc's recently but am still workin on a few

the aerodynamics arent as bad as you may think..it has a better drag co-efficient than a testerrosa ..but that isnt saying much..lol

mark!! i look forward to seein you next year
