Lets put it in perspective....
until a couple of years ago it was STILL the worlds fastest production saloon car....
and thats sayin somethin for a car which at the time was 10 years old...
its sayin somethin else that the audi rs6 is only just quicker than it now..so much for 10 years hard development eh

Was once having a go in a mate's E36 M3, in 3rd and ragging it. Not racing, just pushing his car to its limits (about to be traded in so he didn't care). Was touching 90 and climbind rapidly, and this fooking great big, ugly saloon came wanging past like I was feathering the throttle.
A Lotus Carlton.
I tried to catch up but decided 140mph was plenty and didn't bother.
1st and last time of seeing one.

They are big and ugly!
But that's surely part of the attraction?
It wasted the M3 good and proper, as it should have anyway!

we'll have to agree to disagree...
i suppose beauty really is in the eye of the beholder...
i would have said majestic, powerful and brutish..lol..but if we all thought the same things life would be very boring and there would be no point posting here at all..lol

ok...shabby LC's (anything up to 80k miles is ok..remember its proper servicing that counts) normally the older ones or hard used ones fetch between 9 and 12k ....this is normally because the owners cant afford to put right the problems and they are all in need of bodywork repairs if they havent had treatment.budget between 5 to 7k (maybe more maybe less) depending on bodywork repairs required or maybe some mechanical parts cos at this price its guaranteed they'll need it...
for a very good example depending on age (and remember rhd cars being rarer fetch a premium) you can expect to see from 15 to 16k for an average car up to 23 to 25k for a concourse condition car. these prices are merely guides.
best advice would be to buy a concourse car for higher money...remember you get what you pay for in life....unless you have the patience to spend the proper money putting a shabby car right.
What we do is restore cars. i.e. full respray..new leather..service all mechanicals..brand spankin new fibre glass bodykit....a properly restored car should fetch 20 to 25k all day cos all the preservation work has been done.
as for replicas.... it depends on who has done the replica and what kit was used...almost all replica kits are sub quality and wrong..... i'll give you some examples...a well looked after gsi lotus replica (you may aswell atleast go for the 3 litre carlton to make a replica) will be between 2 to 8 or maybe even 9 grand if you can find one...
tyo actually convert a carlton gsi to a lotus carlton reps..which would include..18 inch azevs..full genuine lc bodykit...respray in imperial green..fitting of all decals.....leather retrim...and exhaust...comes to about 9 grand for a conversion..obviously u dont have to have everything....we have even done one in red .
well thats a guide for you..in other words not cheap..and i havent even got going on other costs such as insurance or repairs... but you have to bear in mind lc's are proper supercars and hence need supercar attention with supercar costs...when you compare them to a ferrari or a porsche they are more than reasonable as long as you can give them the tlc required
and nothing gives you the same thrill..just to put this beast into context...whereas alot of modern cars and supersaloons (see audi rs6) are slightly quicker (and only just) the LC doesnt have 4wd..or traction control..or any other driver aids...actually all it has on its rear wheel drive is a lsd ..abs..and pas....thats it...so its a raw driving experience
right i have babbled enuff..lol

yes our business is bodykits and paintowrk... at the moment obviously our core is lotus carltons..but we do some corsa stuff and alot of mr2 stuff...we are looking to expand into other stuff especially german stuff and jap import....i saw a lovely bumper for the new sti on a japanese import car...but its all about money to get the kits from japan....
