well, i tried ok, another couple of ideas for lowering your insurance premium
limited mileage - great if you don't use it for work like me
very high excess - nothing like offering to pay the first grand to lower it a bit

Popeye and Shrek,
I think your main problem with this car is that you dont like the fact Dave has got this car at the age of 21. When I gues your much older than that, and you have been saving for something quite as good as this since the age Dave is now.
Your just both making your selves look a pair of tw*ts now!!!

PS In case anyone doubts these are an official STi part (probably produced by Rays Engineering and licenced) have a look here.
Third wheel down, sold for JPY46000 which translates to around £240 per wheel in Japan - likely significantly more if they are officially available here! Makes OZ wheels appear to be budget parts in comparison

Just so i can pop my 2p's worth in on this debate ... been driving performance cars since i've been 20 ... Audi S3 (a beginners performance car i know ) then moved onto a P1, had the car since i was 23, insurnace cost £850, fully comp, class 1 bis use.
Started modding the car when i was 24 ... currently my insurance is £1338 (again, fully comp with bis use, £500 excess). If Dave says his insurance is as low as he say, so what?!?!
Jesus, let it go move on ... PS Dave, nice wheels m8, after i put the *ahem* OZ 18in Prodrive rims on, handling went down the pan ... ended up with buying some forged 18's instead (3kg lighter per corner). Handles much better, but not as well as those VOLK's i bet.

what a stunning car you have there Dave!!!
but I have to agree with Pop and Shrek: the wheels look so awful... but as you seem to be a really nice guy, I offer you to buy your wheels
even people over here in Switzerland do know, what Rays stands for. it's hard to believe that there are chaps(?) driving a STi or P1 and not having a clue about all the culture in the big east, the origin of the Impreza!
Dave, wish ya much fun with ya monster

Agree with Blackstar, it's surprising so many people don't have a clue...
I already offered to swap those crappy wheels against my ultra super Italian quality OZ Racing wheels....

hey dave, great car, who cares how much the insurance costs!
i too have a 98 type r, what plans you got for modding?
i keep finding threads talking about type r's blowing up. are you planning to put in gauges or knocklink/lambda for protection?
heres mine.....

BTW Just to fuel the fire
The wheels are called Volk TE-37, they are forged from aircraft grade alu and if they're the same size as mine (most likely) they are 7x16" and weigh 11.2 lbs per wheel. An example I see quite a lot on Scoobs are the Oz Superturismos which are cast alu and in the same 7x16" size weigh 17.6 lbs per wheel.
In 17" format the TE-37s weigh 15 lbs, the Superturismos 23.3 lbs. The Oz Prodrive 10-spoke that I quite fancy are 20.4 lbs in 7x17" format.
Everyone buys different wheels for different reasons, but if you value unsprung weight and strength (funtion over form) then the Volks are hard to beat - I have a list of thousands of wheels at various sizes along with their weights and there are very few lighter than the Volks at the same size. In fact at the 7x16" size the lightest wheel I have listed is only 0.4 lbs lighter than the Volks and is a racing wheel made using semi-solid forging.
Click here to read an interesting page on wheel construction techniques and the effect on the finished product.

ROFL @ Popeye and Shrek. If you can't understand why his car has those wheels fitted, you should just keep quiet.
But you didn't and now everyone can see how stupid you are......
.....and then you make it worse by going on about his insurance

Mine are also 16" but are in Gold, they are STi wheels (called Rays... guess where that comes from ) and have the STi logo in the carbon-effect centre cap along with the Rays logo.
I like the design of them and noticed that they are a helluva lot lighter than the 17" TSW wheels on my other car although I've never weighed them. Admittedly I do intend to upgrade to 17" wheels eventually when I can afford it (probably gold P1-style 10 spokes) but I'm very happy with what's fitted just now as Dave is with his.
They are kinda deceiving in pictures IMO due to the way the spoke goes in towards the rim making them look smaller than they look in reality - I noticed this when I got some pics of my car before picking it up that the wheels are much nicer in the flesh.
Anyway each to their own and here's a quick pic of my car for comparison no flames please . All the best with the motor Dave I'm sure you'll enjoy it like I do with mine regardless of what anyone else says. PS My car is dark blue mica not black, can't really tell with this pic.

Of course there are better looking cars out there, but who else in the UK has (or even knows) those wheels....and not everybody lives in the little "Scoobysport only" world...
