Scott,
Good to meet up. I did not get the phone number till I was back home, but when I met the blue Sti8 with c/w mud flaps on the A9 North of the Black Isle I guessed it kind of had to be you. What was the damage after spending the day in Inverness then? Taking a women to the big smoke is asking for trouble...More than enough shops in Thurso thinks me!!!
Only other Scoob I met today was a tidy looking silver wagon in Nairn or Elgin on the road home in the middle of the afternoon. I had a real canny day, got 230 miles from a tank of fuel, first time over 200 miles in about 20K of driving
Did have a wee little blast over the Struie on the way home though. Turned right at the roundabout at the south side of Dornich bridge and cut up through the hill on a single track road that my old man told me about; takes you out the top of the Struie a few miles North of the Hotel. Big fun with the car handling very nice indeed
Look forward to the next time.

i think that counts me out then. not to worry. that's the same day the drivers club are having a track day at knockhill. i'm gonna try and go to that instead, that's how i'm "looking for a price" in the insurance section!
New I should have checked with JohnS first.
SIDC Knockhill track day is the morning of 26th July, 09.00 to 13.00 hrs and I will be heading there with the Sti and the Westy in tow for some fun.Just been speaking to JohnS and all is not lost. Apparently, the Lotus boys could well be heading for the West coast for some additional driving (as they have done in the past), so they could be up in Inverness for 3ish. If this were the case, we could still arrange a meet for then or look at a different date all together.
My own thoughts would be to pick a different date and that way we would probably have the best chance of a good turn out. I know several of the cars that would come from Aberdeenshire with me will be headed for the KH event.
Any thoughts on this Steve
Why don’t we get the H&I boys to come along to KH
They would be sure to have fun and meet up with the Lowlanders and the Aberdeenshire crowd...and have a great run back North with the Smarties
Jools
I was waiting to see what date would be chosen before I came in.
This Saturday I am doing my first Sprint competition now that I have my racing licence. The British Championships along with the Scottish and Clubs is being held at Knockhill, around 85 cars, including some fantastic F1 engined machines that should be putting in some of the fastest times ever seen there. I am in the over 1700cc sports/saloon car class, which also includes Scooby's and Evo's.
I am planning on doing the SIDC KH on the 26th, so will see if a run is arranged afterwards.

If you need a support car let me know; but I’ll need to be back in Abz for 4 or 5 though. Could even tow the smartie if you want. Aye, I mean properly, as I tend to tow you along anyway when we are ooot and aboot; just we don’t have a tow rope between us. (They don’t make tow ropes that short do they
Went to see Jim King this morning to get the Westy set up for the 26th, but he is moving premises and has no RR, so I’ve just tried to call Ricky Gauld, but he is out. Will call him back later and tow the Westy up there on the A-frame Monday I guess and leave it with him for 3 weeks to get it set up right. Needs new oil cooler hose’s and the 40’s set up right. Got to stop the fuel surging out the vent pipe on the fuel tank, so away to order a Transit van check valve. They have a shallow fuel tank and have them fitted as standard. Amazing what you find out by talking to folk like Jim King, etc. Here was me going to spend the afternoon turning the fuel cell, as the vent pipe is on the left hand side...not where you need it for the hairpin at KN, whem you chasing a bule roller skate with "No Fear" on the back
Too many black flags last time out.

Morning gents,
Are we all in agreement that we should change the date of the H&I meet then? Would be a shame to organise something and then get a poor turnout.
Anyone got any suggestions for a new date? I live and work locally so will fit in around everyone else.
Jools, might be up for that trip to KH but will need permission from the better half first!!

Count me in for the end of July. Blown turbo now fixed.
Would we be staying over on the West cost for a few beers?
Venues?

Hi Jools
Just seen this too late, but I think I was one of the few without a support crew. However I did have several Elises along for verbal support. Posted a report to the English Elises, so will copy it on here.
Of course you would not have expected it to go without the odd incident(BG)

Knockhill Sprint
Just to let you know that there is some action North of the Border, I have copied this across from S_E, as some of you asked me to let you know how I got on.
I got my race licence a couple of weeks ago, so this was my first Sprint event. As it happens, it is a round of the National Sprint Championships, so all the big boys were there from down South. Some fantastic single seat machines, F1 engined Lola T90's, Reynards, Ralts, Pilbeams, Force etc, and vitually every other combination of modified/racing machinery. Even so, a Radical was one of the fastest cars of the day. Also great to see two classes for Classic cars. I was in R2 with Sports cars and Saloons, though not one of them was standard, and it seemed that I was one of the few there that did not arrive on a trailer, with a canopy and choice of tyres. The TVR Griffiths 500 in my class, with massive carbs sticking out of the bonnet, was parked next to me with his own mobile home, awning and mechanic. At least he let me shelter under it.
"Thanks to everybody for their encouragement and good wishes for yesterday. Despite the morning weather, there were seven Elise’s that came along, including Campbell, Shug, Harvey, Simon and Tess, Fergus and Nicky, and our new member, David Bruntnell, and Ali even coming down from Aberdeen. Mind you, any excuse for him to do a run via the backroads. I took Luke my ten year old down, via the main roads, never above 80, and arrived too early in two hours five mins. Greeted by swarms of midges, rain, and low mist, and 45 mins before the café opened.
Scrutineering went fine, they did not even look at my tyres, and Lawrence kindly sent me down a race suit via a friend of his. They would not accept my Pilots flying suit. Seems that I was one of the few cars that did not arrive on a trailer, as everybody was busy changing over their tyres for the very wet track. Format was two practice runs in the morning, then the two counting runs in the afternoon. There were around 100 entries, and I was 35th off the starting blocks, so was able to watch some of the action first. Plenty of spins, especially from the single seaters at the hairpin, four cars on track at a time, so red flags and things slowed down a bit. My run went fine for the first lap, slippy, but I have the advantage of a fair bit of wet weather time at KH, but on my second flying lap, they let a car out from the next group right in front off me before Duffus. Had to brake, and then follow him around at half speed for the rest of the lap. However they gave me another run, and this time I had a clear track. Because of loss of time, we ended up with just the one practice lap in the morning.
When the times went up, they caused a bit of puzzlement, as I had done a 138 secs, the next two fastest cars in my group were 172,176, and only half a dozen of the race cars had gone faster. Then someone pointed out to the Clerk of the Course that I was driving in bare feet, so I was summoned to Race Control. However they went through the book, but there is nothing to say that you have to wear shoes, and mine were soaking wet anyway, as I had been wearing them in the pit lane so as not to draw attention to myself. I then offered to wear them to drive, but they said it was OK, just do not catch fire.
As we stopped for lunch, the sun came out, and on restart it was a lovely warm day and the track dried out, so when the slicks went on many of the cars, it was a different proposition. Again my first timed run went well for the first lap, then guess what? They let out the SAME car again right in front of me. This time I sat two inches from his bumper all the way around to make the point. I was waved straight back into the pits, and the officials came down and apologised, and sent me out again. This one went fine, but unfortunately my time was not posted before my final run, so on that one I could not go for the 110% that I had planned, in case I did not have a valid time. They were almost identical though at 122.42 and 122.50, which won me the Class by 3 secs, and also the fastest road car of the day.
Received a nice engraved slate trophy for the cabinet, and they said that I really should have had an award for the record number of laps for the day!!!!! Apart from the slight mishaps, they were a friendly bunch, and had a good laugh afterwards. Unfortunately, they also persuaded me to enter for the Boyndie Sprint next Sat and Sunday, and invited me to the dinner on Saturday night. I only intended to do KH, but Boyndie is only 28 miles up the road, and the track looks like a real one, although it will be flat. Might just take a run up there today and have a look at it.
In the end it turned out to be a most enjoyable day, though 10 mins of track time in nine hours is never going to replace track days.

Well done Tut; wish I had come along now! See you on the 26th I hope. PaulM was round yesterday and will still be home then, so we'll have fun for sure chasing the Mad P1 around the place. Took the yellow Westy along to Ricky yesterday. It will be there for three weeks until I get back and hopefully going better and ready for the track day. Let him work his magic
Steve; I'm away today for three weeks. 2 Aug would work for me. What do you think about starting a new thread;
Highlands & Islands; The meet is on... or something like that. Feel free to kick it off if you wish
SandyCam; Glad you enjoyed the run, next time longer on some better roads I hope
