Turbo, moses et al...

There is no scientific evidence (as yet), that there is a creator. You look at the world around you and think there must be a creator. Why does there have to be a creator - and who created the creator? If the creator always existed, then why hasn't the universe always existed?

Evidence is very strong that we as humans have evolved. To believe otherwise is sheer ignorance. And we are far from perfect - e.g. the structure of the eye which has receptors pointing backwards. There were not 2 humans who kicked the human race off - we've evolved - look at DNA structures for evidence of that and see how alike we are with other living organisms.

I respect your views - just that I cannot succumb to blind faith. Each to their own I guess

PS - I hope I haven't offended

Akshay, no offence taken at all mate.

I find this topic fascinating from both perspectives. Emil me if you are after some 'scientific' literature on the topic, if not keep on chilling!

By the way Akshay, speak to ANY expert in the field of genetics/ and they will tell you that the theory of evolution has been completelly discredited by science itself. It is the evolution THEORY...not evolution FACT....there is a great difference between the two. The FACT that evolution is propogated as the TRUTH is one of the biggest injustices going. I take it from some of your posts that you are in the field of academia..if so Im quite suprised that you give any credibility to a theory which has no weight these days.....its just a myth mate

By the way I have an excellent book on the topic if you want it.....that what I was referring to in my above post!

Turboman,

The theory of evolution explains best what is observed. Any other explanation is blown out of the water. Creationalism does not have a leg to stand on. Is it any surprise that all UK universities teach the theory of evolution as part of their biology degrees? All they all teaching non-sense? Evolution is being observed right now as we speak...write!

I am not a biologist, but a physicist - or at least did a physics degree but now work in a completely different field (non-academic too)! I've spent years reading up on this stuff, but now I just let things be and stay on the chill pills (...most of the times!)

Turboman,

Why does it surprise you that they teach the theory of evolution? I have a handful of friends doing post-grad degrees in biology and we always talk about evolution. Check the Darwin centre out at the natural history museum (worth a trip to London!).

As for this critical evidence...Please tell me what it is! (I have seen many a text that attempt to deny evolution, but there is also an infinite, convincing amount of evidence to support evolution).

Cheers!

Turboman...I suspect the word 'theory' may be causing a bit of confusion here.

In the kingdom of science, a 'theory' is the result of application of scientific method, as opposed to say someone making something up and then passing it through as fact - My theory is that toothfairies put money undermy pillow because I found a fiver there this morning. Obviously this is nonsense!

I won't rehash the scientific method here, but please have a read of this...

For the record, there are many Islamic scientists who believe in evolution and claim that evolution and the Quran are compatible. Confused?

Darwin was not bollox - I would only agree with that if you (or anyone) could provide a better explanation to his observations, for which you'd have to read the 'origin of species'.

I'd recommend you read about scientific method (link in my post above) - the most powerful method known to man for establishing the truth.

Akshay I think you are confusing Islamic scientist acceptance of part of the 'big bang' theory, which is mentioned in the Quran.

To the best of my knowledge, all orthodox Muslim thinkers have wholeheartedly rejected Darwinisn/evolution theory as it denies the existence of God and this of course is in sharp contrast to all religions. Throughout my study of Islam I have never heard any scholar say that the evolution theory is accepted as correct.

If an individual doesnt understand religion..that doesnt make it flse....we have an intellect ( most of us)...its just a matter of engaging it. Anyway, I think I've said enough on this topic.!

Just as a matter of comment:
IMHO religion has been one of the greatest stabilizing factors in civilization.
Unfortunately:
The opposite can also be said of religion.

To sign off from this thread, I'll leave anyone interested with a link to TalkOrigins. Plenty of reading material for the inquisitive.

Here you will find Refutations to creationalist arguements, as well as a plethora of essays and notes from academics all over.

For me, the writing's on the wall

Well.....
Somebody asked for it.
I fell for it.
Been reading for hours.
Still haven't figured when evolution was created.

err turboman, I checked out that link just out of interest, & here is one of the quotes:

"It is well known by almost everyone that honey is a fundamental food source for the human body,"

lots of analagies about bees.....is it just too high level for me then & am I missing the point. Since when has honey been a fundamental food source ???

my beliefs are as follows:
I actually believe in eric von daniken's theories (although I'm not an expert), I don't profess to be highly involved in this area, but this whole religion thing has had me confused for many years.
I have never commented on the political (or very rarely) due to the impossibility of it being proven, it's ALL just theoretical whichever side of the fence you sit.

I know you are a regular poster on the islamic religion & obviously your beliefs are very strong, BUT it's all just hypothetical isn't it ??

edited to add - I won't be back on bbs until Monday now.

shunty (who should never post on political type threads)

Shunty in all honesty, you are asking me to comment on a whole website which features dozens of books ( some of which are very simplistic and aimed at kids!)...so as for the honey comment I really don't know mate.....

You are right though, I do have strong believes, although I think i've always been clear that my aim has never been to 'convert' anyone or even convince them to my way of thinking......

My only 'aim' if I can call it that is to clear up anything which I believe to be a misconception or error about Islam

The site was recommended to Akshay as he was discussing ecolution theory.....thats why I posted the link......it wasn't an attempt to convert! If you don't agree with it, that's up 2 u mate!

True reason I use scoobynet is to indulge in my main 'wordly(!)' interest..cars.

Regards.
