It's the 335mm upgrade for the fronts. Same as your 1st url. Minimum of 17" alloys required. There just isn't the physical room to fit 335mm discs and calipers inside a smaller wheel.

The kit has 335mm discs with seperate alloy bells, larger pads (due to the larger disc surface), caliper mounting hardware and spacers designed to use the existing 4-pot Subaru calipers i.e. MY99+.

If you have 16" wheels and 2-pots, you can go for the 308mm upgrade which consists of replacement 4-pot calipers.

You can't fit larger diameter and thicker discs to the Scooby without pushing the caliper further away from the wheel hub or by increasing the width of the caliper using spacers. Afterall the Subaru caliper is designed to take a smaller, thinner disc.

You would achieve the same result by fitting a large brake kit, but they would supply you with a new caliper ala AP Racing, Hi-Spec, Wilwood, etc..

what are calipers? i thought they were the pads.

so this kit is only for the fronts! don't we need the rears as well.
its like changing 1 battery of a 2 battery walkman.(or old man with young bird) bit odd?

 

The caliper is the large red metal thing in the photo. It hold the brake pads and pushes them against the disc when you press the stop pedal.

Yes, this kit is for the fronts only. The majority of the braking force comes from the front of the car. Personally, I would fit some complementary pads on the rear to avoid upsetting brake balance. The kits come with Mintex, EBC or Ferodo (my favourite), so I would just fit the same pad on the rear.

Ian can sell you rear discs if you need them.

Ian gave me a price of £60 for Goodridge hoses & £15 for fluid. That wasn't as part of the Group Buy, so twist his arm a little. I want the Goodridge hoses and fluid with my kit, so maybe he'll be kind enough to give us a little discount.

Anybody got any advice on the pros and cons of the 4-types

i.e. standard, grooved, drilled, grooved & drilled

The grooved and drilled look the best, any drawbacks (apart for more work for Ian )?

I'd recommend the grooved ones.

Plain - well, speaks for itself really.
Grooved - helps to de-glaze the pad
X-Drilled - supposed to aid cooling, but consensus is that they are prone to cracking.

Don't have 1st-hand experience of Ian's discs but people I've taken advice from in the past have always told me to avoid grooved disc - once bitten and all that.

Dont wanna put words in Ozzy's mouth. BUT - Like he said in his last post - Drilled discs are more prone to cracking around the drilled holes. Thats why on Ians website he recommends grooved ONLY if your gonna do track days.

Dougy - I have had your order in so far . no more yet.


Glen - I have not tried this wheel but I would think they will fit , we make our discs with more offset than the standard ones which pushes the discs further in , you will need 15mm of offset inside your wheel to clear the calipers , I mean the offset from the centre of the wheel where it sits against the disc , and the inside of the spokes.

If anyone is planning on doing any track days then I would go for the grooved only as the extra heat generated can cause cracking around the holes.
