I'm going to buy Godspeeds's 335mm Big Brake disc kit for my Scoob.
After speaking to Ian at Godspeed I can get this kit for £525
(Saving £70) if there are 5 buyers.

Anyone interested ?

PS - Don't wanna know if you like or dislike Godspeed.
There are other threads for this.

Cheers
Dave

I've only heard good things about them. Most of the complaints have been time-related and people not getting sets quickly.

I need new disks and pads for my MY99 RB5 ASAP.

I have a few questions though:-

1. What payment will Ian take. I'd rather pay by CC for insurance. I'd need to wait till pay day to pay by any other means.
2. What pads are available. I've only seen Mitex 1155 and EBC. Can we get DS25000's for this kit?
3. Does the kit come with braided hoses & DOT 4 (or 5) fluid?
4. Do the pads squeal from cold under normal use? Being shy, I don't like drawing attention to myself pottering around town :)
5. What are the costs for replacement disks (grooved only) and pads?
6. I need rear discs/pads. What does Ian recommend to compliment the upgraded fronts. I don't want to spend mega bucks on the rears.
7. How soon can Ian get the kits out to us?

I'll be happy to get in on the Group Buy once the questions have been answered.

Stefan

Dont want to dive in on your group buy questions Stefan but I took part in the last one.

Ian wont accept credit cards due to obvious problems with mail fraud etc. The hoses and fluid for my 325mm kit were extra and yes my pads are squealing like a pig when they're cold. Ian told me its because they're glazed which does make sense given that I'm stuck in traffic a lot and very rarely brake hard!!

They are very good but I guess you know that already!!

ozzy 19 March 2003 12:50 PM

Thanks.

I'm not too comfortable paying with cash :( Need to think about this one.

Stefan

Dougy Giro 20 March 2003 10:19 AM

Come on theres gota be more out there!!

Stefan,
I won't be sending cash either - i'll use a cheque.
Godspeed is obviously a ligitimate company and it
appears there have been loadsa customers - where
payment has NOT been a problem.

I cant answer most or your questions.
I'm hoping Ian will read this thread and answer you
via this tread or pivately.
You can always contact him yourself via: godspeed@ukonline.co.uk

Cheers
Dave

ozzy 20 March 2003 11:11 AM

Yeah, but I don't get 6 mths interest free credit with a cheque :(

I'll mail Ian to answer the other questions.

Thanks,

Stefan

GU5 20 March 2003 11:32 AM

How about a cheque from a credit card company, like a balance transfer? ;)

SCOSaltire 20 March 2003 11:32 AM

isnt that the point of the grooves?
to stop them glazing?

as i understand it.. use the pads beyong their operating temperature and they deposit stuff on the discs
then u have to let them cool down
and when cold the pads scrape off the deposits

waiting to be enlightened :D

i also need brakes.. keep putting them off.. (lack of funds and keep looking at AP or Prodrive kits) but the cracks are scary!

ozzy 20 March 2003 11:49 AM

Yeah, cheque from CC is one idea, but they usually charge £20 for the privilage. That starts biting into the GB discount.

Maybe Ian will do me a deal on a kit + some rear discs/pads :)

ozzy 21 March 2003 02:44 PM

Dave,

You had any more response than just my mutterings?

Stefan

Dougy Giro 21 March 2003 03:50 PM

Stefan,
No, not really.
Just a few asking ME questions about THEIR cars!!!

Anyhow its typical, I couldn't afford some when the last group
buy was on. Now that i'm organising summat - Nobody replies!!!

There still appears to be people considering there options though.
Have you contacted Godspeed yet?

ozzy 21 March 2003 04:12 PM

No, not yet.

I was hoping Ian would respond to this first. I'll send an e-mail off before I go home.

Stefan

Dougy Giro 25 March 2003 10:22 AM

Stefan,
Did you get hold of Ian?
I cant seem to get hold of him.
But then again our works sever has been playing up!!

Dave

ozzy 25 March 2003 10:41 AM

No not yet.

I've been busy at work, so never got round to sending Ian some mail. I've just sent him an e-mail with my previous questions, so I'll let you know if/when I get a reply.

Cheers,
Stefan

Dave - just replied also to your email from this morning

Cheers Ian

ozzy 25 March 2003 11:14 AM

Thanks Ian, got your e-mail.

Dave, have you had any more feedback?

My fronts are completely sh@gged, so I need to do something pronto - or start taking my mountain bike to work :)

Stefan

Dougy Giro 25 March 2003 11:38 AM

Cheers ian,

Stefan,
Just think of how fit you'll be !!!

No i've not had anything of note, but there's gota be more
prospectors out there!

I've read threads talking about AP's etc.
I just wish i could afford that sort of system.
It appears to me that the 335mm Godspeed system is excellent
value for the money, coz unless your going on the track
you aint gonna notice that much difference. (thats just my
opinion as i havent tried any systems yet).
Having said that, I'm sure Godspeed actually guarantee their
discs for track use. No one esle does! (I think)

Cheers Dave

ozzy 25 March 2003 11:45 AM

Hi Dave,

Yeah, I agree if I could justify the expense I'd go for a full AP setup. I don't do any trackdays and don't really have any intentions of doing them, so I can't justify £1500-£2000 on a set of brakes.

Subaru want about £800 for std front & rear discs/pads. No way am I paying that sort of money when I get get uprated ones for the same price.

Decisions, decisions .....

Stefan

SCOSaltire 25 March 2003 11:53 AM

u sure u never overheated ur brakes on the road?

im not sure i wanna spend 700 quid now and another 700 quid when i kak me brakes up... thats my dilema

apart from that i cant justify them either

ozzy 25 March 2003 12:13 PM

Hi Phil,

To be brutely honest, I never warmed-up or cooled-down my OEM brakes

Having said that, I've only need 2 new pads/discs in 4yrs and one set of discs were due to a manufacturers fault, so I got them replaced under warranty.

Even if I fitted AP's there's no guarantee they ain't gonna warp and the replacement costs are humungous.

Ian will gaurantee his disks, but he obviously wants to see them first so it would cost £10-£20 to send them back to him for a decision.

Replacement discs are £135 each and pads are £75 a set, so it's still cheaper then OEM and with the seperate bell/disc should prevent a lot of the heat-related problems with cracking/warping.

I think this is a better setup than fitting Group N solid discs simply due to the seperate bell/disc.

You need to spend at least £1000 to get something with replacement calipers (like Hi-Spec or StopTech).

It really depends on your driving style and where you drive. If it's on track, then go for a big kit (and AP if you can afford it). I like fast road driving on country roads, so I don't tend to have lots of big stops - just constant feathering of the brakes and trying to keep as much speed through the corners as possible.

I had a spirited drive back from the Bridge of Orchy at the weekend and through the twisties, I stayed in 3rd for miles and even my sh@gged brakes lasted.

For me, I'd rather get some decent suspension to sort the car's handling, run a bit more boost to make better use of the mid-range before even contemplating a full AP kit.

Trouble is some huge 6-pots would look awesome behind the alloys ;):)

Stefan

SCOSaltire 26 March 2003 01:07 PM

ozzy
i do similar driving to u... tis fun :D

ive gone for the prodrive disks... as i need to fit them asap... the disk has cracked properly now :(

suggest u get things organises asap... and dont get into a cracking situation :p

:)

ozzy 26 March 2003 07:54 PM

oh dear, I see your jokes haven't improved :)

did you go for the Prodrive discs on their own or some new pads too?

Stefan

SCOSaltire 26 March 2003 10:25 PM

and hoses... got them today

ozzy 08 April 2003 11:20 PM

Right BTTT for another go.

There's a good few folk mentioning Godspeed kits, so if you are interested why don't we get together and save some money :)

c'mon lads you know you want too :)

Stefan

Dougy Giro 10 April 2003 08:08 AM

Paul,
I dunno. but i remember with the last group buy there was various people getting different products, so i don't see why not. But dont quote me on that!!!

I'll get in touch with Ian via email and let you know, or he might answer this thread direct.

Cheers
Dave

chrome 10 April 2003 12:30 PM

bttt

if Ian can reply direct to this thread (in particular to answer those questions on page1) that would be very helpful and save 101 emails flying back and forth..

Sennadog 93 10 April 2003 01:16 PM

I'm definitely interested in having the 335mm (?) fitted with the pads to my MY 02 bugeye but it will have to wait for a few weeks though.

Travelling to Bridgend is not a problem.

PICKLE 10 April 2003 04:09 PM

Would be interested in the 335mm kit but would like to know the cost for drilled and grooved discs in the kit, and whether the bells can be supplied in gold, or blue? :)

Dougy Giro 10 April 2003 06:04 PM

Paul (chockymonster)

I've had a quick word with Ian - I think he'd prefer to keep it
to just the 335mm kit at moment.

I presume you want 308mm coz you have 16" wheels ???

Cheers
Dave
