I'm going to buy Godspeeds's 335mm Big Brake disc kit for my Scoob.
After speaking to Ian at Godspeed I can get this kit for £525 (Saving £70) if there are 5 buyers. Anyone interested ? PS - Don't wanna know if you like or dislike Godspeed. There are other threads for this. Cheers Dave |
I've only heard good things about them. Most of the complaints have been time-related and people not getting sets quickly.
I need new disks and pads for my MY99 RB5 ASAP. I have a few questions though:- 1. What payment will Ian take. I'd rather pay by CC for insurance. I'd need to wait till pay day to pay by any other means. 2. What pads are available. I've only seen Mitex 1155 and EBC. Can we get DS25000's for this kit? 3. Does the kit come with braided hoses & DOT 4 (or 5) fluid? 4. Do the pads squeal from cold under normal use? Being shy, I don't like drawing attention to myself pottering around town :) 5. What are the costs for replacement disks (grooved only) and pads? 6. I need rear discs/pads. What does Ian recommend to compliment the upgraded fronts. I don't want to spend mega bucks on the rears. 7. How soon can Ian get the kits out to us? I'll be happy to get in on the Group Buy once the questions have been answered. Stefan |
Dont want to dive in on your group buy questions Stefan but I took part in the last one.
Ian wont accept credit cards due to obvious problems with mail fraud etc. The hoses and fluid for my 325mm kit were extra and yes my pads are squealing like a pig when they're cold. Ian told me its because they're glazed which does make sense given that I'm stuck in traffic a lot and very rarely brake hard!! They are very good but I guess you know that already!! |

Stefan, I won't be sending cash either - i'll use a cheque. Godspeed is obviously a ligitimate company and it appears there have been loadsa customers - where payment has NOT been a problem. isnt that the point of the grooves?
to stop them glazing? as i understand it.. use the pads beyong their operating temperature and they deposit stuff on the discs then u have to let them cool down and when cold the pads scrape off the deposits waiting to be enlightened :D i also need brakes.. keep putting them off.. (lack of funds and keep looking at AP or Prodrive kits) but the cracks are scary! |
Yeah, cheque from CC is one idea, but they usually charge £20 for the privilage. That starts biting into the GB discount.

Stefan, Just think of how fit you'll be !!! No i've not had anything of note, but there's gota be more prospectors out there! I've read threads talking about AP's etc. I just wish i could afford that sort of system. It appears to me that the 335mm Godspeed system is excellent value for the money, coz unless your going on the track you aint gonna notice that much difference. (thats just my opinion as i havent tried any systems yet). Having said that, I'm sure Godspeed actually guarantee their discs for track use. No one esle does! (I think) Cheers Dave |

Yeah, I agree if I could justify the expense I'd go for a full AP setup. I don't do any trackdays and don't really have any intentions of doing them, so I can't justify £1500-£2000 on a set of brakes. Subaru want about £800 for std front & rear discs/pads. No way am I paying that sort of money when I get get uprated ones for the same price. Decisions, decisions ..... Stefan |

im not sure i wanna spend 700 quid now and another 700 quid when i kak me brakes up... thats my dilema apart from that i cant justify them either |
Hi Phil,
To be brutely honest, I never warmed-up or cooled-down my OEM brakes :eek: Having said that, I've only need 2 new pads/discs in 4yrs and one set of discs were due to a manufacturers fault, so I got them replaced under warranty. Even if I fitted AP's there's no guarantee they ain't gonna warp and the replacement costs are humungous. Ian will gaurantee his disks, but he obviously wants to see them first so it would cost £10-£20 to send them back to him for a decision. Replacement discs are £135 each and pads are £75 a set, so it's still cheaper then OEM and with the seperate bell/disc should prevent a lot of the heat-related problems with cracking/warping. I think this is a better setup than fitting Group N solid discs simply due to the seperate bell/disc. You need to spend at least £1000 to get something with replacement calipers (like Hi-Spec or StopTech). It really depends on your driving style and where you drive. If it's on track, then go for a big kit (and AP if you can afford it). I like fast road driving on country roads, so I don't tend to have lots of big stops - just constant feathering of the brakes and trying to keep as much speed through the corners as possible. I had a spirited drive back from the Bridge of Orchy at the weekend and through the twisties, I stayed in 3rd for miles and even my sh@gged brakes lasted. For me, I'd rather get some decent suspension to sort the car's handling, run a bit more boost to make better use of the mid-range before even contemplating a full AP kit. Trouble is some huge 6-pots would look awesome behind the alloys ;):) Stefan |

I'm definitely interested in having the 335mm (?) fitted with the pads to my MY 02 bugeye but it will have to wait for a few weeks though.
Travelling to Bridgend is not a problem. |
Would be interested in the 335mm kit but would like to know the cost for drilled and grooved discs in the kit, and whether the bells can be supplied in gold, or blue? :)
