I tried the nice way, and the nasty way, still slips. New clutch plate time.

lol from what I can gather it's the oil contamination that has screwed it when the engine was changed, no problems when it came out the car.

As Andy says think it was the oil, think it was about 12000 miles - went in with the six speed which was also new, but it was perfect till the engine came out. It is 240mm with an aftermarket STi flywheel.

How does the STI flywheel differ to the one on the standard 6 speed out of interest? Gather it is lighter?

Is it worth junking the standard one?

It is quite a lot lighter and made of billet alloy, 7kg IIRC, and very expensive

Probably wouldn't bother again, but I needed a larger flywheel to go with the clutch.

I bet, can guess!

Got you. Thanks for that.

Any ideas of standard STI flywheel weight? 11kgs IIRC?

If it's the one I have they are 7.2kg, stock is around 11kg's.

Cheers

Just had the clutch changed whilst I am away. It was a little excessive copper grease put on the spigot bearing that had got onto the old plate.

I'm aiming to run it in the 400-435 BHP range and about 380-400 lbft as everything should have an easier time of it and I shouldn't have to keep dealing with and reporting engine failures , it felt like it would go on forever at 1.6 peak, 1.5 mid, 1.4 at the top on Optimax with about 450 BHP, just when I got greedy it popped. A dose of realism is required for me, 177 BHP per litre is really silly enough for a daily driver on normal fuel with hopes of long term reliability.

There is not much you can't waste with 400 BHP in a 1300 kg daily driver IMHO, and you can frighten many bikes with typical riders on real roads no problem with a 400 BHP Scooby as I've found out several times.

85 BHP per litre from a big block Chevy in something less than a ton sounds more like it if I get bored

Had some problems with FSE regulators packing in - two of them now - they just don't hold pressure under boost. Tried cleaning them etc. The OEM regulator is in there temporarily whilst I wait for an SX.

Going to fit an AVC-R.

Been chasing iON for 3 months now for an actuator that will stop me blowing another engine up. Still waiting I'm afraid.

Both good buys IMHO.

Actuator can be sorted, I am getting some bits in for someone soon, I will enquire about the price of a Garrett actuator that could be adapted onto your turbo.

What was wrong with the actuator that was on it John?

Doesn't sound too good waiting that length of time for parts. Did you not wait ages for your turbo as well?

Thanks Paul. I am told they don't make one that weak, eh?

Alan, it won't run less than 1.4 bar midrange, or 1.5 bar when it is a bit colder, that is clearly quite a lot on a 2.5 (>400 lbft without additives) and makes intelligent boost control difficult even if you want to run just a little above that as it isn't a flat 1.4 bar as it sits at 1.2 to 1.3 below 4000 and drop again at the top.

Ideally I would be able to run a lot less than 1.4 bar, I wouldn't take it to a trackday at that boost, not initially anyway.

Me and turbos eh? They either won't hold it or make too much Or creep. External gate is clearly the way to go...

John, sorry to post the same question all the time...

What power do you estimate at 1.5bar?

Cheers

About 460 BHP at Star on Optimax at about 1.5 bar at 6000 RPM I reckon, prob about 500 at PE.

The 20G did 434 BHP at Star on 10% methanol at 1.3 bar at 6000 RPM.

John, had a similar experience with my STi8, the SX did cure it though
