I had never done a 1/4 until Sunday, didn't seem to matter though No one needs to teach you, your Evos are relatively lag free just relax, rev it to about 3000 RPM and smoothly let the clutch out whilst feeding the power in and grab second gear PDQ Just get on with it Scooby with the TD05 16G small similar to your Evos was a dream to launch

Did anyone note the results of the dyno runs on Sunday with the intention of putting them on the web somewhere? I arrived late-ish for the RR session so it would be interesting to see what sort of power some of the cars doing sprints at the airfield had. Cheers,

Hamish

I think it is about 380 BHP and 370 lbft and 315 at the wheels but the rollers said 358 and 326 lbft I think. The run up time is five times longer than what it is on the road and the car was idling for 10 minutes waiting to go on. Need to experiment with run length. In addition, one Scooby that had nothing changed at all dropped 23 BHP a week or two later. Need to work out what is going on.

My Skyline made 420 on the rollers, although that may be an underestimate as the intake temp was input as 14C (ambient temp in workshop) when it was probably closer to 25C. It made 303bhp at the wheels though.

Yes but Andy, all it's had done is exhaust, de-catted, air-filters and boost raised to just over 1 bar. What would a Subaru be putting out with that work - 250bhp? Can I ask how much you've spent on your modifications to get a claimed 432bhp??!!!

LOL @ Dougster

Hi Hamish

I have spent approx £1500 to achieve my proven 432 bhp

There's a fair bit more to come from the current set up but I didn't have time to tweek it prior to the rolling road day.

It's not so much BHP I'm after, it's power to weight ratio ie BHP/Tonne

Andy

What do you get for £1500? That would cover the cost of a decent turbo alone! What about injectors, fuel pump, cams and pulleys, strengthened internals, bigger intercooler, better air flow meter, decent ECU etc, etc? Has your car a lot done to it when you bought it?

Lol @ JB

Hamish, sorry, I make a pastime of winding up some people on this board re how much it 'should' cost to tune a scooby. It's a nasty habit, I really need to seek help

I do the work on my car myself, even down to building the intercooler and turbo from some bits
To date I have spent £1500 on parts, the breakdown is listed below.

Intercooler cores £180
Samco hoses £80
Sti pistons s/h £100
Rings £120
gaskets £30
Injectors £240
Exhaust uppipe £110
Exhaust downpipe £180
Exhaust 3" silencer £40
Fuel pump £110
Fuel regulator £50
Fuel pipes £30
Air filter and pipework £50
Turbo compressor wheel and housing £300

oops - overbudget £1600

Andy,

I wish I had the know-how/ expertise to do the work myself! The work I've had done (rather more modest level of tuning, relatively speaking) hasn't cost much less than what you've spent. However, I'm getting a good deal on an Apexi Power FC which will allow me to map the fuelling properly and raise the boost to about 1.3bar. With a more accurate intake temp on the RR, that should get me close to 500bhp. Fingers crossed!

Hamish

I'm currently mapping an Apexi PFC on my scoob (on trial) with a view to purchasing one. Initial findings are promising

Moses

You're correct
I've sold the charge cooler/bought intercooler.
Sold water injection/bought injectors.
Sold front entry TD05/bought TD06 front end.

Doug

I'm sure your car would fly with a front entry TD05 on it £150 for a turbo + £100 to front entry it (it is a 97 you have ? )

Yes Andy MY97.

Dougster you could use a Dawes, fuel cut lifter and knocklink. If things got active on the knocklink you could free up your breathing and manipulate your fuel pressure.

Agree with John. No ECU upgrade required until you are looking for more than 432bhp Money better spent on 'conventional' tuning parts such as induction kit and exhaust. Increase the flow capability and you don't need any more pressure (boost)

You think I should do something with induction?

Got full de-cat but running itg with resonator removed. Would a cone filter be beneficial?

It might do, but if it makes the MAF sensor under-read then it will lean out the fuelling and advance the ignition, which is what you don't want to do if you run a bigger turbo at high boost. The higher the boost (dynamic compression ratio) the less ignition advance you need and can use before detonation. The mixture for a given octane burns quicker, which is not a problem so much if you can adjust the ignition, but without an ECU program this is tricky.
