Strangely GT4's are the car I've played with most since getting the scooby! Beat them all ![Stick Out Tongue](images/smilies/tongue.gif)
![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
One did come close though, and it was loud

It will be interesting to see how many people come forward and show just how much credence their claims have!
Next year on April 13th at Santa Pod, the RSOC Central Group are holding their Regional Day and one of the events being arranged is RS's vs Scoob's head to head on the strip!
Full details will be available early in the New Year, anybody wanting to take part please contact me

well i think the rs is a great car for performance but to be honest i dont think it looks anything special so in my eyes its not the all round package the scoob has the looks to go with it and as for the cosworth its a thing of the past its an old mans car get with the times lol

Lol Scoobynutta The Focus has 212bhp not 170 as you state. Neither does it suffer from huge transmission loses like your P1 and the focus handles better than your P1.
Obviously all the proffesional racing drivers got it wrong in their head to head tests.
I can get a nice P1 for 18k at the moment mate and the prices are sure to drop even further as soon as the 03 model is released.
What is so exciting about a 280 bhp Max Power version of a Subaru ?
As you are well aware P1's are renowned for going bang mostly due to the poor engine design.

In answer to your question Redkop,
You are right any engine can pop, but to be honest I just fancy a change and the missus likes the imprezza.
Sorry to come acrross anti ford, it was not my intention, at the end of the day all our cars are more enjoyable than the usual mundane every day traffic and I like anything with a turbo........

i was quoting 170 that was mentioned before, so it has 212 bhp? big deal, my first wrx had more than that and had much faster acceleration, even with transmission loss. And still a long way from my de-cat p1 est.300+ bhp. Besides, i know that you can get a P1 for 18k, try getting a good one for less, and BTW where is the evidence for a 12 month P1 thats at that price that was said earlier? Nowhere. You can get P1s that are nearly 3 years old now, so im not surprised you can get them cheaper. What you wont be able to do IMHO is get one much cheaper for the next few years unless its a crap example or a high miler. Ive seen this all before with the launch of the new shape, and i still havent got excited about depreciation.
And about your suggestion of poor engine design, im well aware of engine failures, ive had a wrx an stitypeR and now a P1. A lot of the failures can be broken down into a few areas, ie, wrong fuel used, faulty maf, piston 3 (i believe) failure, excessive modding, and also believe there is a fault with oil pump. And its not just P1s its all subarus. These are things that subaru have picked up on and ASFAIK they have been dealt with. Anyway i have a bullet proof warranty to fall back on.
And as for max power version of an impreza, whats so good about it, go and drive one, esp if you have the money to buy one. Youll soon forget any thoughts of an RS Focus. Or are you afraid to move out of your Fixed Or Repaired Daily, i have also had 3 fast fords, i wasnt shy about moving away from them. And for the upteenth time, id move back to ford if they have something to offer, they havent.

chrisp I would relish the opportunity
![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I reckon with the gearing on the RA and 195bhp@wheels it should be able (with the right driver) to run a low 13, so I reckon with me driving I should get under 20 seconds easily

Lets wait and see what people start saying when they have got their cars. By Christmas, around 400 should be on the road around the UK.

Does it really matter about the older Cosworths? They've been and gone imo. Very good cars in their day, just like the Impreza. Been and gone if you ask me. I suppose that Subaru are unlike Ford in may ways. Ford chose to make the RS versions of the Escort in the Mk3 and 4, then put the Cosworth lump in the 5 was it? not too sure on Mk. But just when we all took the fact that we could buy these cars brand new Ford for granted, Ford then take them off the marketplace and decide to stop making them. Hence Cosworth = dead.
Subaru are different in that they choose to keep the more powerful impreza alive, with more power creeping up as the years go by. I suppose that the impreza without the power engines would not be so popular (not dissin the sports in anyway) but would the impreza still be alive now without the faster engines and derivatives? the Escort on the other hand has been sold in the thousands even millions maybe?. It doesn't really matter what is the best as it is only a percentage of the customers that really have a clue about what each car is capable of. Your average Joe Bloggs would settle for a sport where us enthusiasts on here need the best model. The faster ones. All the manufacturers care about is money and making profit/good cars.
I almost bought a Escort Cosworth when i was looking for a quick car. When i went my local Subaru garage i was looking at a black Escort Cosworth they had parked outside. It was mint, never seen a car in such good condition. Not a mark on it and i mean not one mark. I'm very very maticulous about cars and dents/scraches and i couldn't believe the quality of this minter Cosworth. Drove it and well i wasn't impressed. The ride was lovely and was really quiet. Interior was untouched. It was like a showroom car. An engineer had had it in his garage for the last few years, he was working away. Had 22,000Miles on the clock. It just didn't seem fast. I dont know why, it just didn't impress me. I will always love the way they look and if i had extra money i would buy one just because i like them so much. Lets face it, it is a piece of motorsport history, the Cossie was and still is a v good car imo.
I decied not to buy the Cosworth i'd seen as I drove an RB5 and decided that it was or seemed much quicker than the Escort i had driven. I made my mind up after about 2 minutes of getting in and driving. The drive was more appealing to me in the Subaru, seemed more sure footed! I have no regrets on buying my scoob whatsoever and love my likkle RB5 to bits. Even if i do have a knacker'd gearbox :O
I suppose that what i'm trying to say is that just because we have our own opinions on each car doesn't mean that we shouldn't be openminded. I find quite a few people on here narrowminded and to be honest it's getting a bit tedious. These type of debates and x vs x and then more x vs x are pretty pointless if we are not informed about each car. We forget that how may of us on here has actually driven and ragged an RS Focus?? Not many i can tell you probably not even a handful.
I haven't driven one yet and therefore do not make or pass judgment on the car. I love its looks and yes the looks alone are enough to interest me. I would be hesitant on the 2WD fact yes, but would not pass judgment until the minute i drove it.
Isn't that what its all about?? "The drive"? The thrill as you are pinned to the seat and lack of body roll as you sail around a corner at a speed that makes your bowels twitch??![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Just my view on the whole thing

The Escort Cossie was a bodge (not in a bad way!). It was a Sierra with an Escort shell put on. Apart from the interior, the Escort Cosworth was virtually nothing like the normal Mk5 Escort which it only looked like. Under the shell, it was more or less a Sierra.
It also weighed around 2000Kg (more than a Sapphire!) and the Focus is nearly 500Kg lighter, which shows when it goes around corners.
I've just been to Gaydon and been on the testing ground. 140mph in the wet on the straights and 90mph around some of the bends.. YES BABY!
The Focus is faster overall than my Escort ever was, purely because you can carry the speed round corners. I can't believe I'm slowing for a corner and the instructor is telling me to speed up and hold it steady. No surface water was going to shift this car off the line - I was astounded.
For ChrisP's benefit, there were 8 people in our group and 2 had Cosworths and were buying the Focus. One had put his order down at the Motorshow in 2000 - so I think if 3 out of 8 people (myself included) on ONE session are going from Cosworths to the Focus RS, there must be a LOT more out there.
