Sorry, I didn't have the exact weight and rounded up through pure guesswork and laziness. My point was that the Sierra was lighter, which it is.

Hmmm I assume then that their quoted gross weight is with a driver & 4 passengers & also full fuel tank, water & oil??

You're forgetting the whale tail. This weighs 700Kg in itself.

LOL Forgot to ask, how on earth can the Focus be 500kg lighter than an Escoz when the Focus is about 10 times better built/solid than the Escoz.....all modern cars tend to be heavier than their older counterparts.....mostly due to increased safety levels.

There is a 4 wheel drive system on the escort that weighes a ton. In most cases an AWD car is going to be heavier than a FWD car as it has more hardware to lug about.

No Chrisp I haven't forgotten about the 4wd system mate, are you saying that accounts for more than 500kg!!??? I beg to differ, I think people are comparing kerb weights with gross weights is the problem. EVERY magazine quotes the kerb weight of a car....eg. EVO magazine quote weight of Escoz at 1304kg & the Focus RS at 1278kg...which I believe to be more correct. Lets face it, if the 4wd system weighs over 500kg more than a 2wd set up theres no way in hell Dax would have put one in a Rush & also no way in hell it would do 0-100 in 7.2seconds with only 380bhp.

Ian I think you took my answer the wrong way. I was just stating that in most cases a AWD car with be heavier than the equivalent FWD car in the same range. I would have expected the escort to be heavier than the focus but not by much as the doors on my focus weigh a ton due to increased crash protection and overall better build quality. I had an escort and the doors were very thin and light. The figures you gave I could well believe.

I know we are agreeing, scarey isnt it .

The Santa Pod stuff was just I wanted to play against a FRS in my RA (1240kgs kerbweight on my SVA docs) . Could be a good scalp for any FRS owners out there

The RA has about 280bhp doesn't it?? I suspect it would be a fairly easy victory for you if you launch it properly mate.

Thats the point the RS is better than the equivelant impreza Ski Ned.
Seems the only way you can defend the impreza is by using The P1 Sti etc as an arguement which cost 7 - 10k more. Testament to the RS performance in the sub 20k bracket. I wonder how scoob's will fair if the 250 - 260 bhp Mountune warranty freindly conversion comes about.
I wonder how many tuners are going to turn their attentions to the RS and forget the scoob as few tuners are interested in fettling scoob's anyway due to the weak engine.

XR2i powerful? OH MY GOD! I used to have one and I never realised that in all that time of owning it.

I think things have moved on since then too. Car companies are managing to put down lots of power through the front wheels (although 250bhp is probably about as far as you would want to go).

I'm going from 4WD to FWD and 2 years ago people were telling me I was crazy. But I've now taken the Focus out on the track, in the wet, taking it up to 140mph and found it's easily as good.

Pulling away, there was no wheel spin at all and through the orners, the grip is amazing.

You've come along, obviously skipped 12 pages and started to post drivel. I suppose you'll be saying something clever like "Fix Or Repair Daily" and sniggering as if it's the funniest joke you've ever heard.

For the record, yes it is funny but not true about modern day Fords. In any case, would we really want to turn this debate into one about build quality??!

Can we also remember that the point of the Focus RS is to make a car that Ford can use to market the Focus range as a whole. It's why all car makers build flagship models on otherwise mundane bread & butter models.

It therefore HAS to look like a normal Focus, just the same as an Impreza WRX has to look like a normal Impreza without the bonnet scoop (and a few other minor cosmetic differences).

The Focus RS is somewhat wider than a normal Focus. See one up close and see how much those wheel arches stick out in comparison - then try to tell us it's the same as a 1.4 CL shopping cart?

Anyone can sellotape some wheel arches and make a car look 'bad' (as in cool). Fact is your Joe Public wouldn't know better and still see it as the trolley in supermarkets.

OK, my XR2i wasn't the most powerful car, but even with that modest power, handling was dreadful compared to my UK Turbo 2000. Now imagine a Ford (I like your anagram - very funny ) with 200+ horses and I can see people loosing the car. In fact I think the FRS is just a time bomb on wheels and you'd ought to question your sanity buying one.

What track did you get it up to 140mph?

but Ski Ned, the Focus RS has the brightest indicators of any performance car out there and there is no better vehicle for signalling when your road race is over !

p.s. Davy, it was Gaydon (one of Ford's test tracks)

Your comparing a XR2i to a focus RS? ROTFLMAO! Would it not be a 4WD Justy to a 2WD XR2i?

"Anyone can sellotape some wheel arches and make a car look 'bad' (as in cool)."

The Focus doesn't have wider wheel arches, it has a wider track. It's the same as the WRC model - so it's more than cosmetic.

I don't care if people think the car is a normal Focus. Anyone who knows anything about cars will know what it is, just as I can recognise most cars by the exhaust, wheels etc - regardless of any badges stuck on (or removed).
