Anyone who knows anything about a 306 GTi-6
#33
Had a 306XSi before which got firebombed last year
Then came the GTi6:
To those who think the handling is dangerous on the limit are just feeling the effect of the rear wheel steering, which to the uninitiated, can feel like the back end is sliding.
Get it on a track, and you'll find it's fantastic fun on the limit!

it's a 98my r reg, the only mod i can see is to the pipes at the corner of the rocker box near the bulkhead. my pipe that leaked is the rubber ones that come up the front of the cam covers then loops around to some metal pipes that dissappear under the manifold.
this passive rear wheel steering thing i was told that gti-6s don't have it, this was backed up when i had to replace my o/s trailing arm (side swipped a kirb bent the arm and stub axle) i could see no way that the rear arms could move other than up and down on the suspension. everything was bolted solidly via rubber bushes to the chassis. can any one confirm or tell me how it works.
my gti-6 at the mo has a k&n 57i with 17" aez icon 5 wheels with eagle f1 tyres and a godspeed 325mm 4 pot conversion with colour coded rub strips

As far as I know it's only the Gti-6 that has it. It is a very basic system in that as the suspension compresses it alters the geometry a bit by the way the linkage is attached causing the rear wheel to turn a bit helping the car turn in at the back, this could explain the feeling of "losing the back end" to those who are unaware or not used to it,

Cant say it's any slower, mot noticibly anyway as they are within 2mm of the original rolling diameter, if the price was right I wouldn't mind a drive and then I could have a look at RB170's RB5 at the same time, give me a shout on the mail on my profile and I can send you a spec sheet,

Scoobyboy, they do have rear wheel steer but it is as said a very basic system.
The older 309 and 205's ran the same type of system, it was just basically a ballbearing built into the rear beam, cost a bit if it wore out though
The did modify the phase 2's though, it does handle better than the Phase 1's, its not quite as twitchy.
Also if your car doesnt have the silver lion in the middle of it then take your car down to the pug dealer and see if its had the recall for the fuel lines (the silver lion denotes that it was a 98 model car, pre 98 didnt have anything).

Handle on rails....hmmm thats what I used to think until I went backwards into a reservoir one day at (relatively) low speed.
Watch that lift off oversteer!!! Must say that they turn in miles better than a standard scooby set up though
