Steve cheers

The Vet is coming out this morning & is going to deal with the problem, the money is not an issue [well it is] he has asked the Ex. wife to get the kids out of the house before he turns up so its in, do it, take them with him, he has had lots of calls from the bromley area about the Mixi problem this week.

Cheers for all the advice.

Hold them up in the air by the back legs, they will arch the neck up (as if trying to look up) and you give them a hard karate type chop to the back of the neck.....just behind the ears.
It works. When I used to shoot them, you don't always get a clean kill, so thats how I used to finish them off.

Must admit to doing it in front of some townie once, who was complaining about me and a mate shooting near his house. Said he was going to call the police etc. etc. "go on then mate, we have the land owners permission etc. etc.".
Told him to move back to the smoke if he didn't like the way of the country.

So only three had it. Does that mean you've still got some rabbits, or were all of them destroyed 'just in case'? How many rabbits did you start off with?

My dad killed my bunny when i was young, he held it under water, its quite quick so they sat, i did not watch of course.
Or what about a stonge sleeping tablet.

Or take it to the vets and pay.

For F**K Sake....just listen to all you idiots advising on killing rabbits. Like shoot it in the eye with an air rifle. Do you know how many cats a vet sees each week, needing eyes removed because some **** has done exactly that??. If Jim G reads this thread he will go Ape!!

What sort of **** wouldn't take it to the vet!??

Rant over.

Bob.

Angry

Cats, Rabbits & Apes on the same thread.

I'm the sort of **** that wont take it to a vet, cos I live miles from the rabbits, I work [******* hard] so dont get much spare time, so was trying to get them out of pain as soon as possible, with out my kids seeing it.

In the end my Ex. wife managed to get the vet to pay a house call & deal with the problem, something we were told town vets dont normaly do, the vet had to climb in to the hutch to do his work which when we first asked we were told they would not do, they said the rabbits should go to them, which meant I would finish work, drive to the rabbits when the kids were a sleep, pick them up, box them & leave them either in the garden, easy access for foxes or the could escape & get caught by foxes, or keep them in the house [no chance] or for me to kill them, yes thats what I was going to do, thats what the vet did, in the end I paid some money [a lot] & the vet did it, I was not looking forward to doing it at all but was prepard to do it, for the rabbits & so my kids did not see them in pain, my eldest has been asking why he was not alowed out to give them drink & food, which is why I asked how to do it.

so before you even think of calling me a **** again, put your brain in gear then 'fcough

I dont care who Jim is or what sort of primate he will turn in to

BOBBY

I take it you and other's are not animal lovers so you would not under stand,
If you was you would act diffrenly. so unless you could say some thing a little more heartly on this topic then stay in the muppet forum.
We all know vets are expensive but painless when it comes to the death of your pet, and it looks better in front of children.

That was what I wondered. Didn't realize it was that contagious -- though I suppose it must be because they deliberately introduced it into Australia to control the rabbit population. Not a pleasant way of controlling it though

Barge,

I know it can be very expensive to call the vet out but I admire you for doing the right thing. Many others wouldn't have.

Although it is possible to nurse a rabbit through myxi, most (90 odd %) die and it's a terrible death. I wouldn't hesitate to advise euthanasia in this sort of case. As your vet said, the chances are the other two, apparently well rabbits, were probably already infected and soon would have succumbed.

A sad day for you and your family.

Best wishes,
Steve.

hold them up by there back legs and hit them as hard as you can in a karate chop action on the back of the head/neck. This does the trick real quick, used to do it all the time as a kid out rabbiting. The good bit is being pets they wont wriggle as much so you should have no probs !!

Doh! see someones already posted this method.
