Just found this on e-bay, not a cossie motor, but still pretty damn useful!

Never had a cossie turbo engine in any of mine, but some friends did when they were rare. In the late 80's! Im early 30's

From memory the early 3dr wiring loom is a separate and there are about 4 or 5 wires to splice into the standard loom when you set up. The filter was the biggest prob under the bonnet. Paul bailey put his in the inner wing for his first conversion attempt.

The tunnel will need to be modded as will a (preferably) one peice prop. You can get away with rear slipper leaf sriings if you use a 4link rear end (pref + panhard too - 5 link). rally design (www.raldes.co.uk) still sell the the kits. Ideally you should modify a capri special back axle with slipper, but that would mean the use of Forest of tarmac arches as its wider.

Cheap Princess 4 pot callipers are rare, so you might have to think about a 1 off braking system for the front. Brackets are easily made for the rears.

Only other problem you have is the exhaust, most of the guys bough cheap systems and welded the cossie boxes in at the time.

I would also get hold of the Escort Rally Prep book, if you email me and remind me I will look up the book ref thingy on my old copy (im not selling as its an old friend!) so you can order one. It has all the info on the strengthening gussets and seam welding.

Interesting to see how many old escort boyz own scoobs

Say you wanted to buy something ready built, but a bit less hairy.
I'm thinking a Mk2 with a tweaked 2.1 Pinto on twin 40s or similar. Fast road spec.
What kind of money am I looking at for a good clean car (doesn't have to be a genuine RS, just rot free)
And where would I find such a car - some people in classic car mags tend to get a bit carried away at what their cars are worth.

You used to be able to pick up this type of motor for a grand or so less than 10 years ago in Autotrader....

Question

How about this -

MKII ESCORT RS 2000 CUSTOM
£2500 OVNO
Details
Recent Complete bare shell respray
2.1 Pinto
Quick Rack
Quick Shift
Full Janspeed System
Mild Road Cam
Original RS Alloys
Original RS Manifold

Mate is asking £2.5k - I'll check if he's still got it tomorrow - it is mint (though orange )

40's on a 2.1!!! shame on you. 45's sir!.

There a site called rallyspares or some such, look on google and you'll eventually find it if you combine trhe search with the word 'escort'.

last time I look there were lots of escorts.

Also try www.loot.com and adtrader.co.uk.

You4r best bet is actually toi buy and ex rally car, it might have been bent a little, but it wont be as rust as a road car as it doesnt get used on the salty roads.

Just the ticket polarbear. Prefer a red or yellow 'un but thats not a bad price.

Lotus Sunbeam's tempting me as well but thats a different ball game on prices, and parts I guess.

Cool

Try the classified's in the back of Motoring News, there are usually a few honest MkII's in there that have been prepped for stage or night rallying for under 2K

Have you thought about going the astra 16 valve engine route? awesome noise, cheap and with 45s and cams 205 bhp is easily acheived you can get the bell housings, manifolds etc to fit them into RS2000s straight off the shelf. You have forgetten to mention what you are going to do about the rear axle mate. LSD for those donuts sir?

Paul

P.s when its done can i have a go mister

Astraboy

But what are your thought for the axle? In classic ford a few months ago I was looking at RS2000s and there were some with no engines for £500 sounds ideal for what you need.

Rose joint or nylon bushes ???

If you mean the suspension

Rear - Full rose jointed 6 link atlas, with rose jointed GRP 4 bilstein coil overs, 4 link bars are powerflexed.

Front - group 4 strutts, rose jointed TCA's and top mount, plus compression strutts.

LOL @ rusty, no real rust on it anywhere mate, very solid motor

Watt's linkage mate, running full GRP 4 towers that go thru the chassis into the boot floor, costs over £400 for this mod, just for the extra link

I had a look at my old rally spares last night.

ive got 5x 13in revs and One pukka spare wheel carrier for the boot floor (when you use a shaped ally tank).

free to collectors!

Might have a Bilstein and RBTM somewhere.

Old escorts are for poufs, the hillclimb boys here use Anglias. Roughly the same size as a mini, but RWD and will take a pinto or cossie. There's a 2.1 and 2.4 normally aspirated (pinto I assume) ones and one with a cossie turbo in it over here. The 2.4 and the cossie turbo will do our local sprint (1/4 mile long curve) in around 12.5 - 13 seconds. They look the dogs bollocks with wide arches When the guy first finished the one with the cossie lump he ran it on 8" road tyres. Was still leaving black lines in 3rd at about 80mph 150yds down the road!! Will try ot dig out a photo or video clip for you.

Yeah, but we don't look like we've made our cars from Kellogs cornflake packets and innner bog roll tubes
