Football?? Who here could't care less??
What is all this about. Why is it in the general forum and not in the "Non scooby related one?"
Why because I like football must I have a low IQ?? I don't live it, but I think too many people on here live Scoobynet. There are other things out there you know, it's not just cars and computers.
I try to have an appreciation for all things, I don't particularly like watching any motorsport (love particpating though) but I do not feel the need to put up a post slagging it.
Is it right or somehow amusing to risk alienating people just because they have different views to you, there are contentious posts and then there are posts that are downright ignorant. This site, which 6 months ago was a brilliant technical resource and a fun place for spirited genral banter seems to have become a chapel for scooby worshipers who place themselves above all other car drivers and god help anyone who disagrees with their opinions.
Sorry if I'm getting a bit excitable, but this has been building for a long time. I really think that it is a shame that there is so much pointless bad feeling being generated by users when guys like SDB and the moderators (of which I see you are one Diablo, so why post this point in the wrong forum?) put so much hard work into the site.
Let's try and remember, we are a community, it is diversity and inclusion of such diversity that makes of a strong community.
Peter.

Peter,
CALM DOWN!
the number of people who say its not what it was!! I lurked for 9+ months before I registered, so it was late 98 when I came acoss scoobynet.
Its virtually as technical as it was then, but there are more posts now. Plus I know a little more than then as Im sure you do, so it doesnt seem so technical.

I love Footy and Motorsports, I don't follow a local team, but do follow Scotland all over the world (Pete, unlike some international supporters I can name we have great fun and have a great reputation for it). Motorsports, love competing, but spectating at a motorsports event is the most boring passtime on the planet (trainspotting would be more craik).
P.S. The only reason Rich Askew is so threatened by Kilts is 'cause he is LadyBoy and don't have no tackle.

Edited 'cause I... have Dyslex.... erm..can't spell !!!

Football is crap for the following reasons:
1) Roy Keane is and arrogant to$$er.
2) David Beckham is a brainless moron.
3) The money involved is truly obscene.
4) Everyone involved in it is blatently and solely in it for the money.
5) It enjoys far too much airtime for it to be justified.
6) People think its some kind of religon *newsflash* ITS ONLY A GAME!!!
7) Clubs bring out 156 new strips a season and then as soon as they are off the slave looms they suddenly cost 80-90 squid.
8) People seem to think it gives them the right to bang on about the fcukin thing 24-7.
Football is good for the following reasons.
1) The enthralling violence before, during and after the matches.
2) the superb reporting of the aforementioned violence. I sit at home, beer in hand watching the rucks in complete safety, watching it all kick off on Sky news active cos I get to choose my own camera angles
2) The way the roads empty on cup/UEFA/World/Whatever final day and I can speed with impunity.
BTW I do support one team though. Have done since I saw the film:
"COS WE ARE SHADWELL! AND SHADWELL IS OUR NAME!!!!"

Free country mate, we all have our opinion and are entitled to them. I watch all the GP's - dunno why really, TV coverage has zero atmosphere. What a boring apathetic place it would be if no one had any opinions

If that means that the likes of Jason B stop posting eloquent rants, then thats fine by me. If this alienates people then how sad must they be that they cannot accept we all have our own views.

I'm not a scooby worshiper and I respect others opinions, doesn't stop me having my own.
Oh, and if you meet one of those die hard scooby worshipers, at least there's a greater chance that you won't get a kicking/stabbed/glassed/killed by him/her for wearing clothing with a rival manufacturers logo on it. Football breeds hatred like no other sport.

I think this thread proves the point.....
Football is great and the majority of us love it!!
There are over 7000 people on Scoobynet and less than 50 have bothered to reply by saying they hate it
Therefore the other 6950 dont want it banned. Now thats a majority for ya!!
If u don't like football, just don't watch it. Change the channel... The Antiques Roadshow might even be on.
Kos the Hearts fan.
PS WREXY When i get over to Greece i try to watch Olympiakos too!! Giovanni is god!!

Interesting discussion...
1962 - as a child (4 years old), wanted to be World Rally Champion when I grew up (before I realised there was no Drivers' WRC at the time). Visit RAC Rally, read Father's motor sport mags, paint competition numbers on side of Dinky cars etc
1968 - still want to be W R Champion, but find solace in Newcastle United FC. Become seriously hooked. Never want to play for NUFC (realise not good enough and would let team down).
1970 - see first NUFC game (and umpteenth RAC Rally). Still want to be W R Champion...)
1979 - compete in 1st Rally and feel like I could become W R Champion.
NUFC in 2nd Division...
1981 - compete in 1st International Rally (Scottish). W R Championship in sights!
NUFC still in 2nd Division.
1983 - NUFC promoted!
1984 - compete in European Rally Championship with all thoughts of Rally stardom long since consigned to the bin.
And so on...
I can honestly say that despite all the Rallying related fun, thrills, excitement, travel etc etc, the sight of a Newcastle United player slamming the ball into the net, gives me (and the 52,000 others in the ground), an incredible buzz!
I can see many of you're enthusiastic Scooby fans (some worryingly so...), but I've never come across the dedication shown by many NUFC fans.
Some of you've mentioned your dislike of the spiralling costs in Football today; what about those involved in Rallying? Always an expensive sport, costs are well beyond ridiculous now. Ricky, Colin, Carlos etc don't drive for the fun of it anymore, and most Premiership Footballers would love the deals they've got. I don't begrudge them and neither do I the likes of Alan Shearer and so on. Good luck to them and anyone else who offers a service people and firms are willing to pay good money for.
I still love both sports; would like to see more Rallying on the Box and rarely watch a Football game unless it involves
NUFC. Football though, is a hugely popular sport and whether people in the Forum like it or not, more want to watch it than Rallying.
By the way; how many of you actually get out there and spectate on an event? I don't mean once a year at RAC time, but the little club events or even the Welsh or Scottish?
Hmmm...

It`s entertainment and as has been said take it or leave it; perhaps like us here ?
Have recognised a few `football` traits here - wind up; mud slinging; team clothing; irresponsible behaviour etc....dig deeper and see if you can find even more similarities.
When attempting to `sell` this bbs ( and hence it`s members ) for the support of the SdB charity it dawned on me - what if the people I have approached actually read a lot of this - perhaps that is why they never returned the calls ?
Might it have been the ` maxed out ` thread ( wind up or not ) that was current at the time ?
I`m certainly far from perfect but who could`nt care less ?
Cheers
PS looking forward to the Scoobysport sponsored women`s beach volleyball !!

I'm not sure they fight over clothing labels either. The only football 'breeds' is dullards moaning about it.[/quote]
My personal opinion is that international brawling championships should be set up. Lets face it these people are going to do it anyway so it might as well be taken off the streets and as its my idea I can make a bit of money out of it.
Personally I think it will overtake football in popularity if it ever took off. I dont know about you but I would pay good money to see the Chelsea headhunters vs The Galatasary Nightwatchmen.
No boards, no guns, no weapons of any kind. just hand to hand combat between two consenting groups of motavated indivduals. quality.

Don't mind the world cup, (while England, Scotland or Wales are still in it), but that never seems to last very long.
Other than that it's pretty much snoresville all the way!
IN FACT I've always harboured concerns over men that 'worship/adore/support, men or groups of other men. Smacks of suppressed homosexual attraction?
What are these people like that sit and LISTEN to Ex(has been) footballers on the radio!!!!! How sad is that? It must be as exciting as listening to a boxing match on the radio..... ohh, he's hit him hard this time... He's moved to the left of the ring..... Etc. Etc.
AND; As for these people who walk around in football shirts with OTHER PEOPLES NAMES ON THEM............... What the bloody Hell is that all about then!
Mike.

Isn't there a country in Europe (Spain/Portugal?) that already has a free for all brawl that astraboy is describing? I seem to remember reading about it years ago. Apparently several people where expected to be killed at each one.
I for one would be quite happy for there to be special enclosed places where yobs could kick the faeces out of each other with impunity. Not too sure about the idea of it being a spectator sport. If Roy Keane and the like can inspire Saturday afternoon brawls, just think what a free for all would inspire.

could have local events which build up to county then domestic finals
European round, then a world final
anyone thining rollerball yet?

Unfortunately not a new idea. We have been running this for the past 300 years. The inaugural competition was called Battle of the Boyne. 300 years on we have the annual Seige of Drumcree. The worlds press gathers for days before and waits around for days after. The hamburger rights to this event are estimated to be worth more than all the tobacco advertising in F1. Bigots from all over the country gather to face each other across a line of barbed wire. Support events spring up across the province. Much throwing of bottles, stones and petrol bombs occurs. After a number of days a couple of people get wiped out, everyone decides that the game isn't so much fun and goes home until next year.
The benefit of having these events instead of normal riots is that everyone knows exactly where and when they will happen. That way you don't need to get hit with a plastic bullet if you are meeting an important client in the morning.
Just had a thought - Cigarette advertising for Drumcree 2002......
