[hangs head in Shame mode on]
I joined Dominic and Carl both who had to shoot off before the end of the Race but with five minutes to go
MY Brakes fail and at the bottom of the track I fly into the tyres
SO WE WERE FIRST
to retire
ie LAST
[/hangs head in Shame mode off]
Still a great day was had by all

Floyd's Fairies enjoyed it too. We were lucky with the weather and met a load of cool ScoobyNetters It's a shame a few more didn't stay for the AGM.
But I have to disagree with the venue. Frankly, it's crap (and I've been to a few). Hopeless spectator viewing and... The karts are old, unreliable, badly set-up and maintained (the incredibly heavy steering is easily fixed with an Allen key on the rear hubs) and generally utter sh1te, the marshalls don't give a stuff, they are obsessed with health and safety, and if you so much as touch another kart they stick you in the sin-bin. Great. Although we managed to avoid that for once. Oh, and no power-braking... very naughty, you know Bollox!
They took ten minutes to replace a broken kart and didn't credit us with any missed laps, as other circuits usually do. "That's racing, Sir," said the very polite man I wanted to punch. No it isn't, you cretin - it's your crap ******* karts! (But I didn't say that!)
Our first kart only wanted to go left, probably because it had a 1cm wheel spacer on the RH front, but nothing on the LH front(?). Second kart would brake all on its own as the rear axle moved on its knackered bearings.
Can we give Wilton Mill another go? Great circuit, excellent viewing and (I believe) a relatively new fleet of karts. Wilton Mill is now a National Championship circuit so they should know what they're up to.
Or Buckmore Park (Chatham, Kent), or Trent Valley (Grantham, Lincs) or one of the many other top circuits.
Hope this doesn't sound like grapes because we didn't win (fastest lap though ) I just think we all deserve better for that kind of money.
Cheers,
Richard.
PS In contrast, Daytona's indoor track in London's Shepards Bush is superb. Immaculate karts. But I'm not a fan of indoor tracks - if you go off, you hit the tyre wall which, apart from being unpleasant, means almost constant yellows and often red flags. And last time I went there a colleague flipped and broke his thigh
Pretentious rant over! A great fun day afterall

definatly sour grapes what else could it be after reading all of that
i cant see how you think the karts are worse than any other endurance karts at any other circuits they get bashed to peices at every other circuit and i know i have done endurance stuff at the circuits you have mentioned and others
fastest lap by 1/100 of a second and that is an 8.5 stone versus an 11 stone person not such a consolation
what i will agree with you is the safety stuff is well over the top the karts are made of cast iron so i dont know how putting 4 wheels over the white lines would damage them and also 10 minutes to change your kart was a joke and it stopped us from maybe being a lot closer to yourselfs
anyway what goes around comes around as last year at wilton hall we were saying the same things as you

X Scooby, not meant to be sour grapes but I guess it maybe comes over like that. We all like to win, but it was their 'don't care' attitude which took the edge of it for us. Whatever, it was good fun
Did someone get within 1/100th of us? That was damn good as weight (and wind resistance up the hill!) counted for a lot yesterday. I think our fastest lap was 1.11.1???
Cheers,
Richard.

Hoppy,
We weren't there yesterday but racd at Daytona a month ago and have been there before. I agree with what you are saying, they don't care and one of the teams, if not more that we take with us always get problems.
We have decided for now not to go there again.
Cheers.

I agree, I had a great time. I know I can drive a lot better in the dry than torrential rain
Evan was top as always (I hope he had a good birthday).
If the Marshalls had given us just few minutes then we would have still won but there you go.
It's funny how another team was credited with laps due to a problem with the karts but our problem wasn't considered. Lets do Wilton next time.

Well, as I was in one of the middling teams
We didn't suffer with any of the problems apart from being told off for going too fast into the pit lane whoops and taking my rally wannabe jacket off before going out on track.
I enjoyed the track anyhow

sorry hoppy was told by my blind team mate that was the case about the times rechecked and you are totally right
another comment about buckmre park did a sprint season of 8 races one a month a couple of years ago got to the final allways in the top 5 on the grid result 1 first place 7 retirements due to karts the thing is we dont look after the things so the organisers dont either and like they say that is karting they dont give a toss
i suppose it is just about better than going out and doing £10000 in a season like i did once

Personally I had a good time but we had zero issues with our Kart. I've also done endurance at many differnet places and I too thought Whilton Mill was by far the best, both in Kart, organisation and track quality.
Having said that, Daytona Milton Keynes is a lot better than some I've been to.
I enjoyed myself and would go back (assuming Floyd's experience was and exception, not the norm!!).
Just a shame 30 or more Karters went home before the AGM started...

You're probably right about the karts. Thinking about it, the corporate karts I've seen at Buckmore Park were pretty dire. Never driven them, though. But at Daytona London you could eat off the floor tray. I guess indoors is obviously cleaner.
Agree with you on the cost of karting. Yes, that amount of money has a familar ring to it Which is why Hoppy Junior doesn't race in National Championships any more! Shame is, we had to stop because he was good, and the higher you get, the more expensive it is.
As a father you always think your lad is the next World Champion but I know many young karters who've won just about everything there is, and sacrificed all for their dream, only to find nobody is willing to stump up £100-£200k for a season in F-Ford or F-Renault. And then another quarter mi££ion for F3. They're absolutely devastated. I'm glad we stopped when we did
Best regards,
Richard.
