I've been reading all the postings about Dawes. Can someone tell me....Isit easy too fit? How do you know what setting to use once it is fitted? Can you damage your engine or turbo if incorrectly used.

From what I have read Dawes seem like an awsome tool for very little outlay.

Jason, yes it is easy to fit. With all engine modifications, you should really use it with a modicum of sensibility.

You will be running more boost which will (I believe) create higher temps (amongst other things) which will increase the wear on the engine (over time).

There are a couple of pages kicking around with instructions on how to fit. It's best to use a boost gauge when fitting and adjusting, but you can do it without (at your own risk ) and test it to fuel cut, and then turn it back a bit.

Do a search for Dawes Device and pick the results from the Drivetrain section. There are a couple of threads floating about with a wealth of info and links to pages showing how to fit them.

Cheers HTH. I don't have a boost guage at the moment so it would have to be a dual purchese. Thanks for the advice. I'll have a look about for more info.

Off the top of your head, do you know how much boost a scooby runs on as standard and how much I should increase it with a Dawes?

Gridlock,

on an Sti or P1 fitting solid rear drops links for around £55 and getting the bump steer done for around £130 will make the car feel substantially different - Stis especially are much less 'skittish' in bumpy corners. With a little more you could also get an anti-lift kit - also a huge difference in handling

Depends on standard Scoob. I have a UK MY00, which I think runs 14.5 PSI tops. This can be moved up to ~17 PSI with the Dawes.

All depends on the model and year of machine as to what standard boost is and when Fuel Cut kicks in. You can also get a fuel cut lifter to give you more boost through the whole rev range, but if abused, i.e. remove fuel cut completely, will more than likely blow your engine

I think safely (as safe as you can be ), most people increase boost by about 2 PSI.

By the way, HTH = Hope that helps

Just going through my old e-notification list and found this.

Can I just say in response to the first post about "wheel alignment (dubious one)"

Not at all... I've had the prodrive settings put on and it was superb - tramlining and understeer both much reduced and a far quicker turn in.
Had the TSL settings and it's even better!
Especially when you add Eibach springs (less than £250) and rear rollbar drop links (again less than £250)
Getting Group A camber bolts put in to go more extreme and dial out all the understeer next week. And bump steer mod.

Just thought I'd say

YOu are totally wrong plain and simple. Admitted I'm only talking about the original (and best) Imprezas here. I bought a secondhand scoobyecu which cost £50, new ones are available for £75. It transformed my UK wagon beyond belief, that's what a remap and 15.5psi boost will do for you on an old TD05 car. It is measurably more powerfull and flexible.
If anyone has an old car get one it will be the best £75 you ever spend on your car. Not only more powerful but lags less and pulls harder throughout the rev range.
I still can't believe how good these things are.

You can notice a difference between 32psi and 35psi all round.

I usually run 35front 34 rear. Personal preference.

I think the standard advice from subaru is 33psi front 30psi rear (or 32 if you're loaded)

I think I'd notice the difference if the ScoobyECU was removed...

There's loads you can do to increase performance for £250 per mod... He says trying to decide if building a FMIC or doing a straight entry TD05 mod is possible for £250...

Then again, I'm not most people, and I'm obviously mad, as I've never believed that you get more power simply by spending more money. (There has to be some physics, engineering and stuff involved in there somewhere for it to all work.)

Having said all that, if the engineering hours I am about to spend and the engineering hours spent by the ScoobyECU people were factored into the purchase price, they would all be MUCH more expensive - my time free doesn't cost me anything...

I only miss the front splitter when I look at the car from outside

Not in August 2002 they weren't

Anyways, i'm older and wiser now and today wouldn't dare post something as opinionated as that Hell I might even be wrong one day

Good to see some folk trawl back through nearly 18 month old threads just to have a dig of some sort lol

I didn't notice the original date on your posting and certainly didn't dredge it up myself. In any case highlighting how good the scoobyecu is and how little it costs has to be a good thing for the Impreza owning community don't you think?

I didn't trawl through just to have a dig, I was looking at all my old e-mail subscriptions and saw this. It's not the only thread I've resurrected. LOL!

I wasn't having a dig, I just wanted to say what a difference I felt the suspension geometry changes made.

Don't blame me if peoples don't check the dates...

DarkBlueTurbo,

Do you drive a wagon with a SIDC sticker in the back?

If so sorry I ignored you the other week (X reg, Red Mica, saloon) somewhere on the outskirts of Basildon. I normally wave but was being destracted by my car's strange behaviour, it wasn't accelerating very smoothly. Problem seems to have gone now

No, mines a 4 door, w-reg but I do live in Basildon so I'll make sure I wave if I see you

I got the Green Panel filter but can't tell if there's a noticeable difference or not cos I put it in the same day as I decatted the car!
