blip,
you probably already know this, but i read the sticky clutch is due to the clutch cable being too close to the exhaust pipework, something to do with the RHD conversion.

Raja - interesting that you are thinking of going from a MY00 scoob to a 306gti-6. I always had a scoob top of my list, and recently had a deposit down on a MY00 only to decide at the last minute that I couldn't justify so much of my toy-fund going on something I'd only use a couple of times a week. That's why the 306 seemed like such a good compromise. Half the price of the dealer car I was due to buy, almost as much grin-factor, less attractive to thieving pondlife, higher equipment spec and a nicer interior (IMO). OK, obviously not as quick or grippy as a scoob, but for the amount of time you actually get to 'drive' quick cars on UK roads it was a fairly easy decision to make. However I think I'll still need to own a scoob one day, just to know
My GTI-6 cost £8500 (private), although it is a UK-spec import so would be slightly less than a standard UK car because of that. The import thing didn't bother me though as the standard warranty would have been out anyway, and the car was so clean, had such low mileage and was the exact colour/spec I was after. It just meant I was paying less for the car I wanted.
From what I have seen lately the prices are really dropping fast, so if you can find a clean one I'd say snap it up before all the good ones go.

MJ - thanks for that, yeah I had read the same thing about clutch cables so had a new one put on shortly after buying the car. Made only a slight difference but didn't cure it altogether, the dealer seemed to think it could be the clutch bushes which would be an expensive cluth-out job, so I may as well get the 3-4th synchro sorted on the box at the same time. Neither problem is that bad and they don't really effect my driving enjoyment to any great degree once warmed up, it is more me being a perfectionist really, I like my toys to work perfectly
